IMG_0785Are these two of THE most stunning kitteh pix you’ll EVAH come across, or what? “Hi, I thought I needed to send this to you because, well, you’re Cute Overload and this could possibly be the cutest kitten to ever grace the face of the earth,” writes Linda S. “It’s my foster baby, Addie, when she was 6 weeks old. She and her sister Scout went back to the shelter Friday. I’m really going to miss these two. I’ve had the joy of them since they were 4 weeks old.”

[*Note: We responded to Linda’s email asking for details- the location, etc. No word back yet. -Ed.]

UPDATE! “I foster for the Animal Humane Society in St. Paul, MN. Addie and her sister, Scout, were feral kittens and mom was hit by a car. :( Luckily, they found the kittens and brought them to the AHS. They kept them for about a week and I’ve had them for 3-but I get them for 1 more week. Scout didn’t make the weight for surgery today so they had to come back home with me…darn. They should be available for adoption about Oct. 11th.”

Today Is World Animal Day!

I Haz Hoomin To Hug

[Is easy to hug the hoomin. If you just sit on floor and go ‘Meow?’ Hoomin will pick you up, make all sorts of gooey sounds like ‘Who’s the widdle wuv-wuv, WHO is.’ Then just hop up and clamp on. If hoomin hasn’t fed you in several hours, this move can also be used to strangle. Or so I haz been told.]

Bats, It’s Tuesday!

11894404_928868453838010_7212402528519399754_o_1Jackie Sparrow is a flying fox who recently met actor Johnny Depp while he was filming in Australia! Adam Cox of Wakaleo Animal Channel sent us this terrific video, and images by Dean Morgan Photography/Rachael Wasiak.

Trish Wimberley from the Australian Bat Clinic (site appears to be wonky at the moment) introduced the pair while the latest “Pirates Of The Caribbean” film was shooting near her rescue center on the Gold Coast. Johnny expressed his love of bats and offered to sponsor the little one as it undergoes rehabilitation at the clinic, after losing contact with it’s mother during a heavy storm.

Extreme weather events are often damaging to flying fox populations causing many baby bats to be separated from their mothers, often via abnormally high temperatures or cyclonic winds.

Rescued bats in care at the clinic frequently remain for many months as they are prepared for their release back to the wild.

The bat clinic takes in hundred of bats every year and is commited to education and conservation of bats.

Donations can be made via their Facebook page! Remember: Never touch wild bats unless you are vaccinated and are trained to handle them. If you see a bat that needs assistance, call a local wildlife group as soon as possible.

One More For #696

Sea Otter Awareness Week ran from the 20th to the 26th, but Monterey Bay Aquarium keeps churnin’ out the YouTube videos for Otter #696, so by golly we’re gonna post ’em. (I guess this is the last one?) Anyway, here #696 meets surrogate otter mom Rosa! Quoting the video, “Rosa’s one of five adult otters who live at the Aquarium full time and act as surrogate moms to rescued pups like 696.”

OK, that’s cute.

Greetings, Fellow Earthlings!

FullSizeRender“I just went to the Fellow Earthlings Wildlife Center with my boyfriend for my birthday. It might be the cutest place on earth. I took this photo of one of the Boy Meerkats hanging with his stuffies. I’m including a few extra bonus shots-and my boyfriend Jim S. also just submitted a video of the Meerkat with the stuffies falling asleep.” -Christine K.
