Nowzad-Logo-FullRemember this photo sent in by Cuteporter Stephanie H.? A puppeh in Afghanistan, right? Well, we went straight to the source and have a few more deets for you. This is from Melissa, the Nowzad Dogs UK & US Office Manager. “The picture on your site was taken in Afghanistan in 2006 and is of Nowzad Dogs founder and chairman Pen Farthing with one of the dogs he befriended and cared for during his tour of duty, named ‘RPG.’ Thank you for featuring the work of Nowzad on your site, we really do appreciate it.”

Pen & Nowzad

Mr. Farthing has written a book about this, too.

“They are a working farm and boarding facility..”

“..which pays for a good portion of the rescue, but they are always in need of funds & would also welcome new volunteers.”

My Mother the Feather Duster

Bebeh orphan ducklink loffs its new Mom. She’s soft, gentle and doesn’t say, “Go clean your room!”

“Orphaned baby ducklings don’t do well on their own so when they arrive at the California Wildlife Center, they’re placed in an incubator with a substitute mom – a feather duster! It sure helped comfort this little one.” -Kim B. from Coast and Canyon Wildlife.

Privacy Paw (In The ‘Stan)

“Check this picture of Nowzad, the dog who launched the Nowzad charity – rescuing stray and abandoned dogs in Afghanistan. Excellent poise and textbook example of a ‘privacy paw’. These guys should do a ‘Marines & their rescued dogs’ calendar! Who doesn’t want that on their cubicle wall?” -Cuteporter Stephanie H.

(*We -think- this photo is from Afghanistan. Sure looks that way. “Either Afghanistan or somewhere really dusty,” opines Stephanie.)

Hmm, Wonder Who Ate All the Sushi?

And if you look very closely you can see it still swimming in those deep blue eyes!

THIS JUST IN: Kitteh Cat-astrophe Averted In Brooklyn!

BThanks to Cuteporter Julia G. for the tip. It seems two wayward kittehs now named Arthur & August were spotted Thursday on some subway tracks (the Fe-Line) in Brooklyn! No one knows how the little guys got there, but rescuers had to scramble to save their furry little necks! Over to you, Matt.

The service was shut down for about two hours; they were found near the B and Q stops located at Church Avenue in Brooklyn.

The kittehs were, predictably, hard to wrangle.

Rescuers named the pair, who were transported to the Brooklyn Animal Care Shelter, where they are safe.

Quoting the New York Daily News, rider Sandra P. said “The announcer said it had to stop to rescue some cats,” Polel said. “I didn’t mind. I wanted to get home, but I also wanted the kittens to be safe.”

All’s well that ends well. Finally!

Eureka!

That’s what the ol’ 49’ers use to yell when they struck gold. Well, we’ve struck it here, too! This little kitteh is named Eureka, and she was just adopted from Saving Grace Rescue in San Francisco, who rescued her and paid the doctor bills. Enjoy your new home, Eureka!
