Ever Seen An Octopus Nom A Pumpkin?

Angela H. at the Monterey Bay Aquarium sent us this video last night- of a “Giant Pacific Octopus” nomming a pumpkin.

And now we have officially seen it all.

Ehn! Ehn! Ehn!

Moving Day (Again)

(Say like the old guys who bicker at each other while playing chess in the park:)

[OY! I pick my coconut up from HERE….I drag it over THERE….repeat every month…for what reason I don’t KNOW….]

(More Squid.)

56I was zooming through TweetDeck and came across this fantastic Dumbo Octopus (Opisthoteuthis Agassiz) on The Featured Creature’s Twitter. Are those…FEET hanging down there?

What. In. The. World.

Without a doubt, this little maniac deserves his/her own Rule. We’ve had them on C.O. for EIGHT years! And so, from this moment on, so it shall be. Sealing wax, if you please!!

This Just In: Coctopus

[*Note: Cuteporter Jen wrote us today and told us, “Did you know today is Octopus Awareness Day? Sorry, I don’t have any Cute Octopus pics to share, but I’m sure you can use one from your archives. Or that famous video of the coconut-carrying octopus! [We did. -Ed.] I love your site. It’s the only thing that keeps me sane sometimes.” Happy to oblige with this Encore Presentaysh written by Prongs, from December 15th, 2009. -Ed.]

Well, here’s something you don’t see everyday. Our friends over at National Geographic report that octopuses have been discovered tip-toeing with coconut-shell halves suctioned to their undersides, then reassembling the halves and disappearing inside for protection.

Pretty amazing stuff.

Check out the full story here.

Thanks, Marilyn T.

Colour His World

Watch this little Day Octopus change color colour! And he never runs out of that expensive HP printer ink, either!

THIS JUST IN: Stack O’ Flapjacks: The Video!

Last month, we showed you this Cute Little Dude, but there wasn’t any video.

Happy to say that is NOT a problem now. Monterey Bay Aquarium just released this moments ago.

P.S. The video says “You may know it better as the inspiration for the animated character Pearl in “Finding Nemo.”

I’ll Have A Stack O’ Flapjacks Please

What is this little dude?

None other than a Flapjack Octopus, now starring at the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

First photo as seen here by MBARI. Second photo ©Monterey Bay Aquarium/Tyson V. Rininger. Jennifer A. reports: “I want to go under the waves for Sea Snorgling with Squeedorable Cephalopods!” Sounds like a PLAN.
