Mom Taxi XXX: “You Hoomins Need A Lift?”

So there ya are, just kayaking off the Argentinian coast, and minding your own biz. Oh, look. A nice whale. And hmmm, he’s comin’ pretty close and OH HE’S RIGHT UNDER US AND OH HE IS LIFTING US IN THE AIR.

(Ran the YT text thru the Bing translator and got: “A later incredible, lots of sunshine, kayaking and whale. While we watched from above the kayak, one of the whales if it turned and came to our address and we lifted the boat twice!”)

From The Squid.

Comments

  1. Incredible that the whale was so curious and friendly! And the text translation made me laugh too.

  2. This is so amazing!

  3. Messin’ with humans…

  4. Southern right whales, getting friendly with each other, possibly don’t even realize the humans are there. Though if you’re a fan of the really-gah-how-old-now Cosby routines, maybe it’s like that line from “Buck Buck”: “A mosquito landed on me!”

  5. As usual, Google Translate does a little better than Bing, recognizing “tarde” as a synonym for “afternoon/evening” as well. Part of the trouble comes from a lack of typed accent marks.

  6. DB: “A piece of paper! Somebody threw a piece of paper on me!”

  7. DB, Juno: “Come on out, Fat Albert. Fat Albert was the baddest Buck Buck breaker in the world.”
Thanks for the memories of car rides with a cassette tape. I think I still have that tape somewhere… :-)

  8. I can’t believe that went so well! Just wow. Talk about nature experience.

  9. That was amazing!!

  10. YT Text:

    Translated:
An incredible afternoon, a lot of sun, kayak and whales. While we watched from the kayak, one of the whales turned around and came towards us and it lifted us with the kayak twice!!!! Terrible, everything is in this video!!!

[My note: I believe in this case “terrible” has more of an “awe-inspiring” connotation, but that’s just my interpretation]

  11. I tried to post a translation (human, not Bing or Google) of the YT text, but the moderators decided not to post it. I’m confused. Are translations against the rules?
    Other than that… amazing video.

  12. Ok, now everything posted. All is good.

  13. He just wanted them to rub his belly!

  14. Blue Footed Booby says:

I could easily believe the whale was deliberately messing with humans. Cetaceans seem have goofy senses of humor, if dolphins and orcas are anything to go by.

  15. Rhonda B says:

    Awesome!

  16. nuri148 says:

PL, “terrible” in this case would, indeed, translate as “terrific”, “amazing”, “huge”, etc. :)
The girl is all the time like, “are you getting this” and the guy keeps answering “yes, I am filming”.

I too think the whale lifting the kayak was deliberate, given how gentle it was. While they are on the whale the guy says “Look, look, we’re on the whale. There’s two of them. Keep the balance now, just keep the balance”

  17. Kellygirl says:

I think the actual translation was, “Holy crap! Holy crap! Holy crap!” :)

  18. The whale was all, “CHECK OUT MAH HAT GUYS!”. You could almost hear the other whales laughing too. If that wasn’t a whale playing, I don’t know what is.

  19. sabrina rose says:

STUNNING! Awe-inspiring! A new meaning for “gentle giant.”

  20. Laura DragonWench says:

@Kit: LOL at the “CHECK OUT MAH HAT GUYS!” comment. I could totally hear that! Along with a “That’s some bad hat, Harry” response. ;D

  21. Badá Rock says:

And I was here at my couch, screaming and laughing like a small child, completely amazed! This is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen in my entire life! Oh, how much I envy those humans! Whales are my favorite animals since I was a kid.

  22. GEEEEEEOOOOOOOD!
