ResQte Of The Week II: Eleven Little Ducks Went Swimming One Day

Oops! Looks like they swam the wrong way.

The kindness of strangers rescued the pack.

And all eleven ducks said, “Quack, quack, quack.”

“Eleven ducklings trapped in a storm drain are alive and well thanks to two alert Mount Vernon residents and a resourceful crew with the city’s fire department! “Thanks to their diligence and selflessness, an entire family of ducklings was saved from nearly certain peril,” said Jeff Brown with Skagit County Washington Search and Rescue.

Rest of the story over at KOMO News. Thank you to Susan H., who says, “Hi! Here’s a great story about 11 ducklings rescued by the Mt. Vernon (WA) fire department. More candidates for the Men of CO calendar, methinks!! P.S. I love that they blocked the entire lane for the rescue!”

  1. I can’t decide who’s cuter, the ducklings or the rescuer!

  2. Ellen W. says:

I love how the ducklings seem kind of okay with the whole thing. They look a little bit annoyed but that’s all.

  3. ITA, Josie. Looks like those big macho guys had a herd time puting the soft little bebeth ducklies down after holding them. God Bless those fire-men!

  4. Martine Wang says:

Love strong men who rescue the damsels… ♡♥

  5. 260Oakley says:

Congratulations on a brilliant bit of de-ducktion, gentlemen.

  6. Part of the recruiting process of firemen/-women: make sure they love animuhls. Major props to the two residents too, who per the news story went above and beyond.
And such clever little ducklings, swimming into the rescue bucket! Awwn.

  7. Oh my! Give that cute man of CO the centrefold please! (Careful with the staples!) You know I’ve been very quiet lately about the coffee table book; haven’t mentioned it once for ages. So I was thinking, what about a quaterly mag? Yes, this fellow would be perfect for the cover and the centrefold. You know you want it duckies!

  8. Wonder where Mom is…? At least the kids went to a rescue center, since she wasn’t around to take charge.

One of the problems with rescuing ducklings is finding the strength to put them down. (Baby possums are cute too.)

  9. Smartypants says:

Wow, I didn’t think this story could get any cuter until I saw the second rescuer! I love how he has the baby ducklette at eye level.

  10. SlaveToCat says:

This Cougar is on the prowl. Move over duckies I need some rescuing time.

  11. Where’s Mama Duck?! I hope she’s not nearby freaking out because she can’t find her babies!!!!

  12. The story on KOMO News only said people saw all 11 ducklings fall down into the storm drain, but no one saw the Mom 😦 Maybe something got the Mom 😦 At least the 11 ducklings will be raised in a good place until they are old enough to be released back into the wild 🙂

  13. *Clutching pearls and craftily positioning fainting couch near to these two duckling-res-qute-ing hotties*

    A girl can hope.

  14. Peanutcat says:

I love seeing manly men squeeing over baby animals!

  15. SoccerSue says:

My first thought was: “I am SO ok with my tax dollars being spent this way.” LOL! A few days after I found this one, there was an article about firefighters rescuing a dog that had gone over a cliff somewhere here in the Pacific NW. Washington firefighters are rockin’ it this week!

  16. Firemen ROCK!
