Cute Overload :D
If not, just cozy up in your nest! (And later on, maybe order some takeout.)
“I had a Mourning Dove build her nest in the middle of the hanging basket on my third floor deck one year. I had to let the plant die, couldn’t really water it. -Karen M.”
i would have made the same choice for the chance to see baby mourning doves
I love mourning doves and their coos. Thanks for letting the ones in your plant just be!
Oh, I love mourning doves! I find their cooing sound so calming and sweet.
I love the earnest expression on the mom – definitely worth sacrificing the plant!
We have a pair that come back every year. We leave the empty plant basket hanging year round as a reminder. Only had one clutch of 2 babies so far this year. Last year they had 3 clutches. Might get one more this year, getting kind of late for second. I’m thinking of getting a webcam set up for next year.
That mother mourning dove is not only grateful for you letting her nest there, but she will return next year to raise another baby or two in your hanging plant box, Karen M.😀
Very sweet – you are a kind person!
Our first year here one had a nest in the windowsill above my baby’s crib. She would look at me anytime as I was putting my baby to bed. I would look at her and say, “I will not hurt your baby when I am outside. Please watch over mine as she naps.” She has since moved from the windowsill to the protected area of the downspout of the gutter. I enjoy hearing the calls and seeing the babies each year. 13 now.
Thank you all for the kind words. I feel I must be honest and tell you that particular baby didn’t make it. I have no idea how something got up to a hanging basket on the third floor, but it did. The parents did return and have a second clutch with two eggs, which did survive. And the parents returned the following year as well. I no longer live there, but sure enjoyed them while I did.
