New Term: Raturday

Because why not? (OK, OK, it was used SIX years ago. Bringin’ it back, and it’s ’bout time, too. And it’s still ALSO Caturday. They’re gonna have to share. Capiche?)

Look at these guys Emily K. sent to us. “First photo is Izzy. She gets a ‘lil messy sometimes and needs to take a sink shower. As disconcerted as she may look, she *mostly* enjoys the warm water and tends to brux and boggle the whole way through. I also submit for your approval my sweet, hairless dumbo named Milo hangin’ with my stuffed animals. One of the weirdest little dudes I ever did meet. Thanks for your consideration, keep up the excellent cuteness!”

So cute! But this is yet another rat bathing post that makes me jealous. No way this would ever happen with any rat I’ve ever had. Whenever I attempted to bathe rats, it always resulted in wildly flailing rats flinging themselves at me like little furry water balloons while leaving a trail of squishy stinky fear poops in their wakes. I don’t even try anymore. Baby wipes or warm damp washcloths if they need it.

  5. Cambridge Rat Mom says:

Bruxing is when rats grind their teeth in happiness (sometimes in pain. It’s a little like cats purring–mostly it’s happiness, but sometimes it soothes anxious moments.). Boggling is what their eyes do when they brux. When they brux, they use muscles that make their eyes bug in an out. It may seem disconcerting to the uninitiated, but it is a wonderful, happy rat moment when it happens. Google either word for YouTube vids to see it in motion. Strange and wonderful. Rats rule!!!

  6. Both adorable little ratty-pants!
