Headin’ Back To The ‘Stan

dsc_00441Last summer, we met Scruffy Nellie, the Diplomatic Dog. Nellie was rescued from a tough set of circumstances: the streets of Astana, Kazakhstan, one of the coldest spots on the planet. Wendy Q. sent us these new photos! (U can send Nellie a Sniff & a Woof here.)

Fast forward to nine months later, and Nellie the Skye Terrier now has a wonderful life in a warm and loving home.

With temperatures hitting minus 40C recently, Nellie has been wrapping up warmly in her polo-neck fleece and woollen coats for daily walkies in the snow.

  1. Awwww….STINKIN CUTE!!!!

  2. Is it just me or does anyone else think that Nellie looks like a koala in the first snow photo? :) So cute!

  3. phred's mom says:

    You’re right, she does.
    Nose is eminently
    boopable.

  4. Please .. no more snow pictures .. I’ve had it for one winter .. hehe

  5. Whoa, Nellie! (somebody had to say it) :)

Nellie, you look so happy and so loved and that is EVERYTHING in life. Bet you’re waiting for spring even more impatiently than I am. Hugs and smooches to you forever.

  6. you title says ‘Heading back to the ‘stan”… does that mean Nellie is going back to Kazakhstan? :(

  7. True story: -40° Celsius is the same as -40° Fahrenheit.

  8. canadianmary says:

adorables..!! Sweet pupster….he DOES look like a koala in that photo!! .
I sometimes worry about the cold paws; I know that most dogs will NOT thank one for making them wear booties but if it’s cold and icy?

  9. I hear ya’. Today when I was leaving for work someone was walking his dog on the sidewalk not 10 feet from my car and I couldn’t even see the dog over all the snow!

  10. Hello everyone – I do have winter booties – but I’m not very keen on wearing them. When it’s very very cold, my handmaiden keeps me on the snow rather than the ice and we don’t stay out long. Just now, I’m reclining in bed with 3 Foxies and a Ducky Mallard: it’s a real snuggle fest.

  11. What cutie! But no *shoes*?! Can’t believe they put all those warm clothes on her, but forgot to cover the feeties! :O

  12. I totally agree. Nellie needs little booties…

  13. We love Nellie and love her blog :) and yes she does look like a Koala :) Fozziemum

  14. Too darn cute!

  15. Don’t worry Barbarella
I do have booties … I’m just not keen on wearing them! The snow is powdery here, so it doesn’t stick. My handmaiden keeps me on the snow rather than the ice, so my feet aren’t too uncomfortable. I lift my paws when they get chilly, so she knows to carry me!

I’m in ‘training’ for getting used to booties on my feet – but I’m a stubborn madam!

  17. I think the title refers to this being a ‘revisit’ story. Nellie has an earlier page on Cute Overload, from when she was first adopted. We are still in Kazakhstan for now.

  18. Looks a bit like my Tia, shes ment to be a jackapoo
