“I got some great shots of the owls that have been living on our school playground in Golden, CO where I am a teacher’s assistant. I can’t believe they have decided to take up residence in our trees considering the children are quite loud when they are outside for recess! They (the owls- and some of the kids) are super adorable. The babies are Hooter, Scooter, and Pooter! The mom is just… mom.” -Amanda M. B.

Check out the ‘Eagle Yoga Pose’ actions!

Great pix! and what a cool experience for the students.

You could call the mom owl “Tooter” (because she ‘tutors’ her chicks…)

So awesome! Where I grew up we had two great horned owls (a mating pair) who decided they liked our tall pine tree outside my window. They’d just sit there and watch us during the day and hoot at night (so cool!). We dissected one of their pellets once to see the indigestible fur, teeth and little bones of whatever (probably chipmunk) they had eaten. All a very neat, dry, efficient system.

    These babies are the bomb!

    Noticed that on baby #3!

  5. It’s funny she says “some” of the kids…

Owls are totally awesome, they really know how to look at you.

  6. I remember having to dissect owl pellets in high school. It was both totally gross and awesome at the same time. My lab partner and I found (most of) a vole :)

  7. Owly odes ore owlsome!

  8. They’re all so beautiful… And the babies in their fuzzy little coats, aww. They kind of look like wood shavings! :)

  9. We had a neighbor with a great horned owl nest, we loved watching the owlets grow up. Photo set They were adorable like these ones.

  10. Wait, that was a shot of two branching. Here’s the set.

  11. So floofy! I would definitely snorgle them… if not for those sharp, sharp beaks ‘n’ talons!

  12. I think Mom would have an issue with that. I wouldn’t cross, just saying.
