Can Anyone Wiggle Their Ears?

Hey all you ear wigglers. You never had it so cute! Take it away, Sapo the pygmy hippo. Show us how it’s done!

This is Sapo, a pygmy hippo, and one of about 300 in captivity. Only about 3000 still live wild in the rainforests of central Africa. Luckily, breeding programs, like at Whipsnade Zoo, have doubled the pygmy hippos population in captivity.

Bebbeh blorpitude!! What a sweet, sweet face.

  2. Frolicking blorpy — way too cute.

  3. Adorable but I’m worried about the scratches on the bebeh…
Could anyone tell me what this is about?

  4. Sharon Wilson says:

I saw one of the other 299 pygmy hippos in the Kelly Park Zoo in San Jose. I had no idea they were so rare.

  5. Well a few things to say here really.
I see we have a new Cute Men of CO candidate. I’m gonna need a bigger coffee table.
Very, very, very cute mummy & bebeh.
I think we have a new rule of cute: Anything called pygmy is cute. Even the word “pygmy” is cute. I’m right, aren’t I?
I wonder if they’re as cranky as their jumbo counterparts?
    That is all.

  6. Knew you’d have it covered. Now how’s about that there coffee table book?

  8. I wouldn’t get too close!!

Something tells me hippo mothers could teach mama bears a thing or two about being protective.

  9. I don’t know about the scratches but I wouldn’t worry about them either. Considering how important this little guy is to the genetic diversity of the captive pygmy hippo population, I’m sure the zoo vets are keeping a close eye on any health hazards.

  10. Yes! I CAN wiggle my ears! Of course, I’m not near as cute as baby hippo, but if blorpitude has anything to do with it, I’ve got that covered, too!

  11. Yeah, I am still waiting for that coffee table book myself, and thought exactly the same thing about the new Men of CO admission!! Just saying, CO, we are still waiting…and lobbying.

  12. I can wiggle my ears too, but my butt isn’t NEARLY that cute!!

  13. Laura DragonWench says:

As soon as I saw that ear wiggle, this went through my head: “Ruth! Ruth! Baby! Ruth!” Sloth FTW!

  14. adorable ears ….but what about those tocks??????

  15. Blue Footed Booby says:

Animal babies are more like human toddlers than actual babies. It’s physically impossible from doing the hippo equivalent of scraping their knees.
