Top o’ the Caturday to You

Wonderful story here of an Irish farm cat owned by Ronan and Emma Lally, from Clara, Co. Offaly. Last week, their cat, Della, surprised them by adopting three lost ducklings. Della surprised them again when they found she had three kittens born only the hour before.

Peeps. You know what this means? What on earth could three duckling and three kitten siblings be named?! Any ideas?

Via YouTube. More on the story at the Independent. Thanks to Sender-Inner, Zarina.

  1. I don’t know what I’d name them, but mother cat + kittens + ducklings + gorgeous Irish accents, charm, and humor = Cute Overload Supreme.

  2. What this means is spay/neuter your cats.

  3. Duckies are Quack, Mack and Waddle. Kitties are Cormac, Riley and Noodle.

This story just blows me away, while at the same time I’m saying, “Well, of course the mommy cat adopted the ducklings.” I just love stuff like this. :)

  4. The ducklings should be named Flicka, Ricka, and Dicka while the kittens should be named Snip, Snap, and Snurr.

  5. Actually, I forgot two P’s

    Snipp, Snapp, and Snurr

  6. DewiCasGwent says:

Doubt it was last week, as story was in BBC Animal Odd Couples, tales of unusual friendships between animals in episode one and in episode two animals and humans.

  7. I concur! Loved those books as a kid!

  8. Nancy Davis says:

I leave individual names to the CO peeps who are much more imaginative than I. But collectively the 6 bebes should be the “peep squeaks”.

  9. Huey, Dewy and Louie. I mean, right?
And as for the ducks? You can name the ducks something else.

  10. April, May and June?

  11. Mary (the first) says:

    Winken, Blinken, and Nod.

  12. Fred,Ted and Ned..
Wikken,Blinkken&Nod for the ducklings pmey la

  13. 1:35, the yawn!!!!

  14. Heart officially melted

  15. Birds can drink milk?

  16. Like!

  17. Like!

  18. No…mom cat’s instinct is to pull them in close to her, duckies are just taking advantage of a warm place to snuggle.

  19. What books would these be?

  20. Brilliant!

  21. Ummmm…it has just occurred to me that Deckard Canine was in all likelihood NOT being serious when asking this question.

  22. Leetle and furry!! Mine!!

  23. And the PSTWAAQOAK award goes to 6rabbits!

  24. The Independent article above quotes the cat/duckling owner as saying the ducklings were definitely nursing from the cat. Which is weird.

  25. Reblogged this on Forget the Viagra, Pass Me a Carrot and commented:
Sometimes timing is everything……. A lovely heart warming story for Sunday morning.

  26. I watched this on the BBC, and this segment was longer. The reporter said that a duckling’s instinct on being born is to seek out food and drink. The couple did actually say that they lifted the cat up and were shocked to find that the ducks had latched on. The ducklings were just doing what they needed to to survive. Amazing!

  27. Fleurdamour says:

They should be named after another mixed family of immortal fame- the Brady Bunch! The duckies are blond so they get named Marcia, Jan and Cindy. The kitties are Gregg, Peter and Bobby. Kitty mom is Alice, since she always makes lunch, and the kitty’s owners are Mike and Carol. Ta-da!

  29. An entry for the “real life is stranger than fiction” award?

  30. Thumbs up! :-)

  31. Pyrit, I’m embarrassed to say that when I read this late last night I was a little confused at first…*face palm*

  32. Indeed :D I wonder if those ducklings will think they are cats now or not?

  33. They showed a clip of the much larger ducklings still following the mother cat around the farm, just as they would waddle single file behind the real mum! This story was the best bit of the whole show, which was all about interspecies snorgling. Probably the cutest documentary I’ve ever seen.

  34. Did you hear about the baby squirrel that was raised by a cat? It learned to purr!!!!

  35. From Beatrix Potter’s “The Tale of Tom Kitten”:
The kittens are Mittens, Moppet, and Tom Kitten.
The ducks are Drake, Rebeccah, and Jemima Puddle-Duck.

  36. whatthelump says:

Like! Beatrix Potter could’ve definitely written a story about this fuzzy hodgepodge family.

  37. very nice. now GET YOUR CAT SPAYED! PLEASE!

  38. (and the three kittens too, in due time)

  39. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner?

  40. I second that… Cute Overload Supreme…
Lovely Story, duckling, kittens.. Amazing mother cat. And nice accents….
    Totally sums it up indeed…
