Pimpelmeesjes. Ja!

These cute Dutch baby birds know how to tweet tweet tweet their own name, over & over & over & over. Mom’s all, “Go ahead, one more time. I dare you.”

“Pimpelmeesjes in mijn nestkastje. (Chickadees in my nest) In Dutch they are called pimpelmeesjes.” -Hans van der Weerden

My mom told me about a baby robin that showed up in the tree in front of her house one morning. Its mother had left to gather food, but in the meantime it raised such a ruckus that random unrelated birds–not even robins, just other birds that happened to be in the area–kept trying to feed it, with varying degrees of success.

  2. That chickadee is blue! I’ve never seen a blue one. But the call is the same as our chickadee.

  3. SlaveToCat says:

Leave it to the Dutch to cross breed a chickadee with a gold finch and a blue jay to create an adorable Pimplemee-Jesus.

  4. One of my kittehs watched this vid and enjoyed it very much.

  5. That “chickadee” is actually a blue tit – let the inappropriate ornithological bird jokes commence. They are part of the chickadee family though. Super cute little things!!

  6. awww to hear those sounds of spring again, alas will have to wait 5 months to do that, these are pretty little birds, arnt they called blue tits?

  7. I love when it stamps its little foot!

  8. “Here’s a pair of tits.”

the blue tit. beautiful, bold and the kids are noisy! when they leave the nest, they stay pretty much together during those first few weeks of fledging. Mum takes the kids to where food can be obtained by showing them and feeding them so they know the area and the food well so that when the time comes for them all to fly their separate ways, they can look after themselves.
I can never tire of watching the parents seemingly stressing out when the kids leave the nest. more so when they find my feeder at my kitchen window. I refuse to move when I see one on it because I don’t want to disturb them. yeah, I’m a soft touch :-p
    *they* come first!
