Cute Overload :D
Today is International Sloth Day! So, in honor of our little furry friends…take it easy slow today, OK?
(Massive Hi-Rez Bandwidth-Crushing Photos from Becky C. of the Sloth Sanctuary of Costa Rica. Check ’em out.)
Adorable! Why do some have two claws and others have three?
There are two families of sloth – two-toed sloths (which actually have three toes, but only two fingers) and three-toed sloths (which have three toes and also three fingers).
I read about some zookeeper folk attending the birth of a sloth. At some point, don’t know how long later, they made a gentle bid to take the baby, wondering if the mother would let them. She did (longstanding trust established there). The baby clung to the man’s hand very tightly, the man was surprised at how sharp it’s claws were.. just born and so sharp. The claws broke the man’s skin and drew blood, the man jerked his hand slightly, and the baby made a distressed sound, which alarmed the mother. So they immediately gave it back, and the mother curled around it protectively.
I love sloths but I hate the black market that’s sprung up in Central America.
Glad we have folks like these to take care of these guys.
Pixy Misa is right. The bradypus (3-toed) and choloepus (2-toed) are slightly different. I love them both!!
This is the cutest group of pictures I have EVER SEEN! (And I’ve seen a pretty descent amount, you can trust me there.)
Wow, that’s very interesting! Now I’m going to google them and see if there are other differences!
Do sloths ever look unhappy? I don’t think I’ve ever seen a non-smiley sloth.
Awww love the names!!!
They are the Dudes of the animal kingdom – takin’ it easy for the rest of us sinners. The sloths abide.
If you have eyes like that, claws like that, soft fur like that and above all, the attitude of sloths – would you be unhappy?
But I get your point. I hereby challenge CO to present to us… *drumroll*… A DISAPPROVING SLOTH!
