Yes, Whipper is really and truly a budgie.

But…how can thees be, you ask?

According to this article, he’s a…mutant. You know, like Cyclops and Professor X. Let’s head over down to Winton NZ to learn more.

“Seriously- how cute is that.” Cuteporter Fernanda sent this in from Sao Paulo, Brazil. Image from The Budgie Cage.

I’m taking in on faith that there are eyes under there…somewhere…

  2. annette says:

    Ugh…I’m taking “it” on faith…

  3. There are, I think, but the article says the poor guy is probably blind.

  4. Sharon Wilson says:

Reminds me of those fancy chickens at the fair…

  5. Laura DragonWench says:

Me, too! That’s what I thought I was looking at before I read the caption.

  6. 260Oakley says:

The paparazzi following this beautiful bird are know as Whipper Snappers.

  14. the article says he doesn’t fly. it also says they think he might be blind. I’m very glad he’s got a good loving owner!

  15. He’s a budgie. He’s a parakeet. He’s a mutant. He’s adorable!!

  16. BatBlaster says:

I think someone in charge should have made some budgie cuts.

  17. clearly, there is a budgie deficit.

  18. I’d say there seems to be a budgie surplus – at least in the feather department.

  19. Lerrinus says:

    *falls off chair laughing*

  20. BatBlaster says:

Good to know someone appreciates my sense of humor

  21. Theresa says:

    Oh get out of town!

  22. OK he’s cute, but it’s also sad. He can’t fly, he’s blind, and his mother rejected him.

  23. His stepmother seems quite fond of him!

  24. He doesn’t seem sad. He had a happy chirp!!

  25. “How can that be ?” Because he IS the quisach haderach !

  26. Theresa says:

  27. Budgie Gesserit

  28. Dear heavens we’re nerds….

  29. Annnd loving it!

  30. Clairedelune says:

I, for one, think Budgie is adorable. So glad someone loves him.

  31. The Original Jane says:

I agree! I can’t believe someone abandoned him. Gorgeous and a sweetie pie. I’d take him in a heartbeat.

  32. Phoenix says:

Well, it was a mother bird. Nature can be a bit ruthless- when it comes to animals that nature rejects, I think it’s the one place humans can actually be better than animals.

  33. The Original Jane says:

Ah. Thank you. What I read the first time didn’t specify that. I went back and found the full article. :)

  34. edmundh says:

I think Whipper is the perfect birdy companion to Dame Edna!

  35. But she would have him dyed mauve to match her hair

  36. Teresa in NC says:

Looks like Don King’s pet bird…

  37. Birdcage says:

    Well I never …..

  38. Killer Klown says:

It’s … it’s like budgies and angoras somehow managed to figure out how to breed.

  39. HA! Yes! He’s very cute, though I feel slightly claustrophobic just looking at him — that’s quite a coat!

  40. Pssst! I hear she’s had extensions.

  41. The crazy part is, it’s probably a really minor mutation. It just has… a very visible effect.

  42. WoolyBully says:

What a ridiculous little ball of fluff! He’s just downright silly! I’m glad he has a mama who appreciates him for the little living feather duster he is.

  43. Yeah, real cute… until laser start shooting from his eyes, or all the metal in the house gets bents.

  44. Calamity Jane says:

Its like Big Bird and a bunch of bananas had a baby! Totally fascinated by this sweet thing.

  46. wascawywabbit says:

I’m now imagining him perched on Magneto’s shoulder…

  48. Somebody´s been to the hairdr…. erm, feather-dressers for a new look! Perms are coming back into fashion, y´know.

  49. Once you mistake his nostrils for cartoon eyeballs you can’t unsee it O.O

  50. White Jenna says:

Budgies don’t have any feathers when they hatch. I wonder if his mom “knew” there was something different about him, or if he was abandoned when he started to fledge out.

  51. Nature may have made him helpless but conversely made him extra fwuffy and adorable so that humans would not be able to resist him and would take care of him. :)

  52. Looks like he had a bad hair day.

  53. How can that boid take himself seriously? I mean srsly!

  54. Looks like a bath pouf with legs.

  55. Smartypants says:

So that’s what happened to Phil Spector’s wigs!
