Turn up the speakers. Panda Squeaking will happen. Promise.

It’s getting really close to the Christmas holiday season, and just the right little gift is on everyone’s mind. We have it (er, him) right here!

There’s a new Bebeh Panda at the San Diego Zoo, and through a contest, he got a name! It’s Xiao Liwu (ZHEE’-ow LEE’-woo), Chinese for “Little Gift,” according to ABC News.com.

  1. Meeep !

  2. So cute! And I know what you mean, Little Gift–I don’t like have my waist measured either.

  3. And here is Xiao Liwu at 100 days old, at his 12th exam. (Who’s a cute wittle panda cub? Who’s a cute wittle panda cub? Xiao Liwu is!)

  4. Dead, dead, dead. The little gift that keeps on killing.

  5. lisaLassie says:

    Rises from faint to applaud.

  6. Haha… sounds like he’s saying “Meee! Meeee!”

  7. Such a cute noise. Sounds almost like a cat, actually.

BTW, Xiao is not pronounced `zhee-ow’ but `sh-ow’ (not the word show, but `shh’ sound with `ow!’ as if you hit yourself on something). (I’m studying Mandarin Chinese in Taiwan.)

  8. Thank you! I wish Chinese people would spell their names better!

    P.S. JUST. A. JOKE.
P.S.S. My IRL name is just as bad.

  9. I’m happy to see he hasn’t lost any of his squeekingks. What a little love minkee!

  10. Blue Footed Booby says:

So is that a glottal stop? They could at least have the decency to include an apostrophe. Languages are harrrrrd.

  11. 🙂

  12. the ‘meee’ squeaks. the roly-poly walking. the smooshable cuddliness. My day might as well just stop here. I’m done….well,, maybe one more look….tooo mu…

  13. Is there anything like a Panda Bear Roadrunner??

    *meeb-EEP* !!

  14. Not fooled. thats totally a wee man in a panda pup suit! 🙂

  15. Who does?

  16. I was about to say Xiao is pronounced more like “See-ow”. Rhymes with Meow 😀 (Being actually of Chinese extraction, but only speaking enough Mandarin to order food and hold a light conversation)

  17. I’m also part Chinese, but if I had learnt my father’s language, I would be speaking Cantonese and not Mandarin. 😛

  18. Panda or huge black and white mousie?
