Dateline: Kigali, Rwanda- Magilla Glub Glub, Vol. III

Magilla Glub Glub, everyone’s fave Kigali Kitteh, is back! Says MGG’s obviously well-trained hoomin Nathan G:

He’s found all sorts of new toys to play with. From shadows, to trees, to cockroaches, here are a few of his favorites.

Maru, watch your back.

  1. Alice Shortcake says:

He’s gorgeous, but for his humans’ sake I hope he grows out of the “I brought you a delicious cockroach!” stage.

  2. Alice Shortcake says:

Oooh, I’m in the mod lounge for mentioning ****roaches!

  3. Uh Magila…..can you please stay away from the roaches? Otherwise, you’re just as cute as ever. K, thx buh-bai!

  4. Sunningest kitteh-kat evah and simpleh the best name!! ❤ *Directs Alice to the Mod Lounge dessert table*

  5. Happy hunting, kitteh!

  6. Woah. I was thinking about going to Kigali just to meet Magilla Glub Glub, but after seeing those roaches, NO thank you!!

  7. Are those real roaches?

  8. I love that face.

  9. I come here for cute animals, and you give me giant roaches? NO. Just…NO. NO NO NO.

  10. outamoney says:

I hate to be a kill buzz, the kittah is really cute, but someone needs to get that collar off of him. It’s the wrong kind and it could kill him. It needs to be a breakaway!

  11. I could of done without the roaches but the 5th photo on the branch is beautiful !!

  12. Mary (the first) says:

omg the most beautiful whiskairs and ear floof on the internets!!

  13. Fird Birfle says:

(Also: either Nathan G. is a FAB photogr. or it’s a nice camera and the
    light is great in Rwanda!!!)

  14. MinglesMommy says:

ICKKKK for the roach… otherwise, AWWWWW.

  15. Don’t never come to Texas,we got bigger roaches (yes,it’s true )
My cats love to chase them.
But the extermanator has put an end to them – almost 🙄

  16. Oooh I like putting roaches in my mouth too!
    (just keeding)

  17. tommygirl says:

    This kitteh is sooooooo adoruhbuls!!

  18. Aimee white says:

please warn people before displaying an insect some people have phobias about! now I have to avoid cute overload for a few weeks in case I accidentally see that.

  19. Do you mean the cucaracha? I think it’s there in the intro text…? Either way, now that we’ve done it, the coast is clear. We’ve gotten the bugs out of our system for a few months, I’m sure!

  20. Blue Footed Booby says:

My roommate’s cat is an escape artist who can remove breakaway collars at will. There’s no other option but a buckling collar. It’s not really a problem because she doesn’t do the kind of things that gets collars caught on stuff. We can tell because she’s never had any problems, despite wearing this same collar since she was a kitten *eighteen years ago.*

What I’m trying to say is that when you see pictures posted by people you don’t know with no context or background info, it’s probably best to keep your unsolicited advice to yourself.

  21. Blue Footed Booby says:

You should have seen the place where my family used to live in hawaii. You walk into a dark room, close your eyes, turn on the light, count to five, then open your eyes.

  22. In the second pic, MGG is all like “Whoa, impressive ‘whiskers’ little guy!”

But when I saw the third pic, I actually screeched out loud…. *eek*

  23. HA!!!! hee hee….sharpy you slay me 😉

  24. oh Kitty….please come with me the next time I go to India…you can kill ALL the roaches for me 🙂 They make me run screaming like a lil girl….ohhhh wait, I am a girl 🙂

  25. Through the tireless efforts of the fine folks at CO, we’ve learned that baby possums, baby bats (think Drac), and even caterpillars can be cute. Might c@ckroaches have a photogenic side that we have missed? How about it, CO overlords. Can you meet the challenge of finding a c@ckroach that will make us go “awwwww” instead of “oooo, ick” ?

  26. I’m no expert, but last Christmas, my (now 10 year old) son bought me a pair of Madagascar hissing roaches as pets. I can say with roach owner assurance, either that’s an itty bitty kitty, or that’s a mighty big ol’ roach. :O

  27. No, says the lady with the huge cockroach-phobia.

  28. True story. My niece, Shahana (whose father hails from Bangladesh) visited her father’s family in that fair country. When she told us of the giant hissing roaches hiding out everywhere in every house, we all got the creeps, except for a family friend, Alta, who taught science and liked for her students to have hands-on experience as a learning tool. Alta immediately saw the show-and-tell possibilities of these roaches and instructed me to order several of them from Shahana. I passes along the request to Shahana, who agreed, reluctantly, to capture several and bring them back with her to the States. She and her cousins set about hunting them, which should not have been too hard, since every place was infested with them. Time came and went, and Shahana did not check in to tell us of her success. Finally, after several weeks, I called her again to see how the hunt was going. She said that they had been searching for the bugs diligently, but somehow, after having talked out loud about gathering roaches to use as science specimens, every single bug disappeared. No one had seen any for some time, so they gave up and Alta never did get her giant hissing roaches.

  29. When I lived in the tropics (Guam and Hawaii) my Maine Coon, Doobie, LOVED to attack, torture, and thankfully kill roaches just like those. I’d find dismembered roaches on my bed as ‘gifts’ from him in the morning. Oh, how I miss that boy.

  30. Sneaky little buggers. 😛

  31. outamoney says:

    Wow! I’m actually speechless.

  32. Chloe's Mom says:

Unfortunately, my kitteh has brought my roach “gifts” twice; a hazard of living in NYC I guess. The sad part was she was SO very proud of herself. She sat there with her chest puffed out, dead (thankfully) roach at her feet, purring loudly as I thanked her profusely while dying a million deaths on the inside lol.

  33. Clairdelune says:

    Oh I remember those Hawaiian roaches… especially the giant flying ones, zooming in and out of windows like enemy bombers… :-{

  34. Clairdelune says:

Does your son love you?!? Just askin’.

  35. Clairdelune says:

Magilla is the epitome of adorabuls kittenhood- absolute perfection.I want those ears real bad!!!

  36. Hey, I’ll take the flying palmetto bugs over small cockroaches anyday. Roaches that big won’t get stuck in your ear canal.

  37. That kind of fluff should come with a warning.

  38. I know there are some bug haters here, and I know cockroaches are gross germ-carriers, but at the same time, its leg is getting crushed in that one picture 😦 As my mom once said, “Just because you can’t hear it, it doesn’t mean that it isn’t screaming.” I just killed the mood, didn’t I? :-X

  39. hee hee… thank you, Blue Footed Booby… I’ve often thought the same thing but never had quite the right words to say it… 🙂

  40. Man I could have used Magilla when I was in college and the apartment had huuge roaches and my kitteh was all “Eep! I am not touching that thing with my delicate paws!”.
Now my house gets stink bugs which my kittehs will sensibly not touch,. All other multi-pedes are fair game to them though. 😀

  41. Coffee Cup (now with more rabbits) says:

I needed a warning for two of these photos. Uggggh.

  42. emmberrann says:

TKU, CO, for showing us how beautifully MGG is growing into a big brave hunter! As for hunting bugs, everybody has to start somewhere. Don’t let negativity about your prey deter you from practicing on targets appropriate to your experience, you’re still a wee kittehbehbeh, and I lurve you.

  43. This little kitteh is brave, my two sniff cockroaches and walk away…jerks

  44. Catwhisperer says:

See Sharpy’s reply to Aimee, above. In my haste to get to the floofitude, I, too, missed the warning in the intro text. It will never happen again!

I do have a teeny request for the CO Overlords: could you put the icky pix last, so we can see all the qte without getting the heebie-jeebies? Thanks!

  45. lol @ Angel…maybe that’s the tactic I should try next time I visit. They’re the only bug that really gives me the creeps. But that could also be that I was visiting once during monsoon season…and I went to the enclosed gateway to check how much water was outside, and the walls were literally crawling with roaches of all shapes, sizes and colors. I ran screaming. Mind you, I was 12 at the time, but still. *shudders*

  46. @Mamabear….most likely a bit of both. When I was in Zambia, the roaches were pretty big. Again….I ran away sqeaming….(a bit of screaming and being squeamish at the same time).

  47. Well!! I think you are both being pretty rude. I dont think there is anything wrong with mentioning a breakaway collar is safer, or Blue saying you don’t know circumstances, but my goodness.

There are certainly times when you can look at a photo and say – this is a bad situation. Such as the tortise with the protein ridges eating cat food? 100% bad idea, and anyone who knows about tortises looking at the photo can agree.

  48. These things come to the light!
    “They”tell me they’re not really a roach… Don’t care!

  49. Fird Birfle says:

*mentally picturing the kitteh(s) at Saffron’s residence picketing her
with signs which read “We DON’T DO stinkbugs !!!”*

  50. Fird Birfle says:

    A Confirmed Wimpy Gurrl

  51. Fird Birfle says:

  52. There are ginormous “palmetto bugs” like that down here in the southeast U.S. My two cats catch and kill them for me to clean up. ::shudders:: That’s how the kitties earn their keep!

  53. If you put a “do not look” warning on something, well, most people will look!

  54. Coffee Cup (now with more rabbits) says:

Actually, it wouldn’t have mattered. I scrolled down using the “Page Up” and “Page Down” and landed right on the first roach photo. My eyes bugged out (pun intended) and I quickly hit “Page Down” which was my second mistake.

  55. Him is a Mighty Warrior Kitten!

  56. Ewwwwwwwwww!

  57. Well, we are talking about a cockroach mood, after all.

  58. Dumb ol’ catss.

My Rat Terriers only catch sun rays.

  59. There are way too many times when someone looks at a photo and says that. A lot more than you’d think.

  60. Agreed!!!!

  61. Fird Birfle says:

  62. Sorry, mom worked for ears, nose, throat doc and came home w/ stories.

  63. Woah – cockroach – not cute, not cute, no no no nonononononononooooooooo…..

  64. Magilla's Mom says:

Happy to see my little tiger on CO again. As new parents, we are happy for advice…. Unfortunately, Kigali doesn’t have a lot of pet accessories, but breakaway collars are high on our shopping list for our next trip to the US. Also unfortunately, Kigali has a lot of roaches. That said, I will try to censor my husband’s submissions – 🙂 – and PROMISE the next photo to be extra cute to make up for it.

  65. FLYING?!?!? Seriously taking Hawaii off of my “places to visit someday” list!! *shudders*

  66. Madagascar Hissing Co**roach.

  67. Ours don’t hiss,but they do fly 😯
Also they come to the light..

  68. I second that, doranyc 😀

  69. Rachel, dear, perhaps you just don’t get it. We don’t want you to go away mad, just go away. Oh, and grow up a bit before you come back.
