When I saw the first photo, I KNEW you were going to post the third one too. Can’t bear it how helpless and scared the little fella looks, hanging on to the thumb for his life… but be careful, go too close and he may use his human against you!
Every year at this time my 4th graders do a unit on bats–debunking myths, learning how beneficial they are, what endangers them, and how to tell a megabat from a microbat. By the time we’re done, all students feel a lot better about bats and many come to love them as I do! I LOVE teaching kids the wonders of these creatures!
The picture in the middle is the face my dog gave to me when he was a puppy. Ears back and down big soulful dark eyes in a dark face, body all curled around. I turned the corner in the shelter and saw that face looking at me and knew that if I got him out to visit, he was coming home with me.
Heartstrings are officially pulled.
I’m trying soooooo hard to find bats cute, and you know CO, you nearly had me with photo 1. Then you posted all the rest….. Still not finding the bats cute at all. Aaarrrghhh! Yick!
You really don’t have to find them cute; as long as you understand their beneficiality, advocate for humane treatment, and don’t believe all the myths, you’re good!
I love bats and really can’t figure how people are afraid of them or don’t think they’re cute… My favorite line to people who don’t like them ‘but they eat the mosquitos’. My Dad used to hang out with my sister and me in our pool at night, quietly, and watch them zip down and get the bugs hovering above the water.
Oh, I definitely don’t feel any ill-will towards them. I just don’t find them cute. I think it’s the stretchy webby skin thing they’ve got going on with their wings and stuff. Oooogh!

I love bats! Another much misunderstood creature. They are benificial to mankind and I wish more people would read up on how amazing they are.
