Magilla Glub Glub, Vol. II

Remember this little guy:

The kitten, with a funny name, who was rescued in Kigali, Rwanda?

We have an update! Sender-Inner Nathan G. gives us the latest 411: “He’s starting to grow into his bug eyes and he’s now sporting an orange collar with a bell.”

“…His whiskers, eye lashes, and ear hair are all quite long and wild, looking more like those of an elderly man than a couple month old kitten.”

“…He spends his days sleeping, eating, and practicing his hunting skills, which always end with a kangaroo-like pounce with way more height than distance.”

“His tongue still spends equal time in and out of his mouth and he likes playing with ants, paper bags, which Rwanda has plenty of as plastic bags are outlawed, and a pink toy called the Hugga Wubba.”

“P.P.S. Thanks for posting the previous photos. My wife logged on to your site w/o knowing I submitted the pictures and shrieked with excitement to see Magilla Glub Glub.”

No thank you, Nathan.

Toy should henceforth be known as the Glubba Wubba.

    • Gigi says:

Yes all toys from now on will be called Hugga Wubba in my house!

P.S. Magilla Glub Gliub and Hugga Wubba, I just LOVE those names!!!!!!!!!

    I love this kitten.

My 5 feral kittens have all been re-homed, as of Monday, and I’m missing them sorely. Yes, I still have Mama Feral (who hates me) and my own loving 7, but there’s just nothing like a kitten.

I know exactly what you’re saying about kittens. I used to foster, and sometimes it would just about kill me to give them away. But I knew it would be better for them to be in a home where they would get ALL the love. And it was also better for mine, who were already crowded.

And bless your heart for caring for Mama Feral. And (I’m sure you already know this) it’s not that she hates you, she has just not learned how to trust. She might come around eventually – I have one in my house that started out as a feral kitten, who lets me pick her up and give her smooches now – but it’s harder with the adults. But know that you have done a wonderful thing!

also dgerish: in my experience, a VERY effective frame of mind, is to spend lots of QUIET time, sitting NEAR feral mama w/out pursuing lots of eye contact, etc.

After many hours of knowing that when you’re around, things are quiet and non-dramatic, she might eventually begin approaching YOU. That’s wha ‘ ha’ happ’ with one semi-feral kitteh who I eventually named Reesie ….believe it or not, a year later, outside, she would know that it was me and none of the other 95 residents of the building, coming out the back door and I KID YOU NOT even if I didn’t call her, she would follow me (and ONLY me) around like a friendly puppy dog in the back yard. Can’t promise those particular results but she HAD BEEN an extremely skittery, scary semi-feral, nearly-starved, little thing when I first began making sure she ate two meals a day (rather than just leaving food there to be scarfed-down by various other criltters in the nearby grass & creek) ….

Keep us(Also: when you’re “courting” Feral Mama, and somebody calls you from halfway across the house, *don’t* respond to the hollering person by hollering back…it’s the whole “keep things non-urgent” MOOD being consistent, which has the potential to charm her….)

Keep us posted!!! We even keep pompoms here at CO to cheer people and the animals who live with/ near them, on!!!!

*uses CO poms poms to give dgerish a BIG cheer!!! *

Thanks, everybody, for the great suggestions but especially for the encouragement. Mama has been pretty invisible since the younglings left–clearly I’ve confirmed her suspicions! But she’s always got an outside home here.

Thanks, Nathan and wife! Magilla has become one of my online delights. Maru has a rival at last. M G-G is BEAUTIFUL. He almost seems to have some ragdoll blood–if that’s the case, it’s no wonder he’s all that.

he did indeed, says the wife. btw – the admired posed, on close inspection, you can see MG3′s close inspection of an ant. doesn’t attack them, just studies them. giant Rwandan roaches are another matter.
