People, this is Monty. You might not know the name, but you’ll remember his prosh face from earlier this summer.

Monty has died at the age of 13. He was one of Queen Elizabeth’s three Corgis that were shown in the James Bond-themed Olympics opening film clip. Two other Pembroke Corgis remain in the Palace, Willow and Holly.

Here’s more on the Queen and Her Majesty’s Puppehs.

I’m not British but I have a kinship with anyone that loves Corgis. My condolences go out to the Queen.

  4. Aww :( I know she’s supposed to have a “stiff British upper lip” and all that, I but I bet the Queen is really sad, she loves those dogs…. and we all know y the British “only show affection to horses & dogs” – ;)

  7. Shari says:

I’ve read countless stories about the Queen’s love of animals, but especially her Corgis. She’s been brought up to carry on no matter what, but I’m sure she’s grieving over her Monty.

The Butler did it in the Throne Room.

Does the guy to the Queen’s right look like Daniel Craig to anyone else, or is it just me? Inquiring minds want to know.

    • victoreia says:

Nope, not just you. It must be a still from the Bond opening for the Olympics. (Which I missed, dang it!)

          Watch this. It is FABBBB!!!!!

And how wonderful for HMTQ to have this last record of Monty.

          PS blair, *snerks at “linkerfrob”*

I write articles (on boring techie matters) that I try to brighten up by putting links into useful web-sites – tax, investment authorities, various statutory regulators, you know – those fun sites we all love so much. I will very much enjoy inserting linkerfrobs in future.

thanks for the link – it was great to see again – and to see Monty’s sweet close up shot!!

  17. Kar says:

Nobody wears a hat like the Queen. Sorry for her loss, it happens to us all, unfortunately.

  18. Celia says:

Baroooo little Monty, you were so adorable in your reaction shots to James Bond this summer.

  19. Mary (the first) says:

My condolences. I wonder what HRH the Queen would think about a bunch of (mostly, at least, I guess) Americans sending love her way on loss of the puppeh?

  20. Rachael says:

Today I feel one with the Queen for the grief she must be feeling over the loss of her beloved Monty. RIP, little man, I know you were well loved. ♥♥♥

I was touched by the statement in the video that the Queen has stopped breeding now, since she is concerned that the corgis will out live her. I worry about that with my kittehs too (although doubtful for me, unless something sudden befalls me). It is nice to know that royalty and us common folks have some of the same things to worry about…

  22. Leilani says:

*sniff* I can *sniff* add nothing to *sniff* what everyone here already said so *sniff* eloquently. Just . . . I’m so sorry, Your Majesty. I know how badly it hurts, and I share your pain. *sniff*

  23. Andi in NC says:

    My condolences to HRH :(

On another note, the video about the corgis was quite informative. The British make everything sound so proper. Fave quote (insert British accent here…): “Corgis are wonderful in the house as they have quite good bowel continence.” Tally ho!!!

  24. elishab. says:

I’ve never cared much for Corgies, but watching the Queen with hers and seeing all the posts on CO, I think I like them!
    Condolences to the Royal Family.

  25. We should have seen this coming. Secondary characters in Bond films always get killed off.

  26. Katrina says:

OK, these all look like “Killer,” and I would know that bark anywhere! They do bound around and they have the delightful Corgi dance when they want something. There is now “The Daily Corgi,” by the way. My very deep condolences to HRH. But 13 years is a great age. How did I know that C.O would have this tribute? I just did. Thank you, Cute Overload. HI everybody! Is there any activity I should catch up on? Is everybody OK?

  27. Miss Tara says:

Sincere condolences to Her Majesty and to Willow and Holly.

  28. Heather Anne says:

It is hard to lose a fuzzy child, my condolences to Her Majesty, Willow and Holly.
