Holy Bat Babies, Batman!

With the new Batman movie opening all over Gotham City today, we thought it would be fun to check out these little maniacs.

The BuzzFeed Rises.
//UPDATE// Since we posted this at midnight last night, there was a senseless tragedy in Aurora, CO. We’re just sick about it, and send our condolences to families of the victims. – Meg //UPDATE//

    Ah nope…not cute.

  2. victoreia says:

Oh. Em. Gee! They be tiny!

  3. bookmonstercats says:

Welllll…. you can understand where all the gothic horror stories come from.

    Loffs me some bats.

  4. Theresa says:

  5. Theresa says:

Whoops, those are the same batling! D’oh!

  6. Adorable! I love bats :) They’re just fluffy balls with beady eyes and wings: how could that not be cute?

  7. That first picture is priceless, bat burritos for everyone!

  8. doomchild says:

The third photo should not be here. Or anywhere else. It just stole my soul, and I think I can feel my brain oozing out from my ears. Eyes hurt from staring at the photo. … aaand I just scrolled up to look at it again. I – Must – Stop!

    *scrolls up*

  9. bob drummond says:

All these pictures just drive me batty !!! I just luuuuuuvvvv “em !!!
They’re all so cute— little, furry , big black eyes –YAHHHH ! Sooooo cuuuuuute !!!

  10. bob drummond says:

——-and I dont give a beavers dam what others think about bats !!!!!

  11. I’m like 95% sure that this species invades my house every summer and I have to evict them. I capture them with a towel and carry them outside, and then the next night they come back.

  12. Mamabear says:

*Takes burrito but doesn’t unwrap it because I prefer not seeing the spindly appendages* I want so bad to love the whole bat, but the head just doesn’t match the body. Such a cute and kind face and then…ahhhhhh!! Ohhh god the humanity!

  13. bob drummond says:

Close the windows !!!….. and the screens ,thank you !!!

  14. Rachael says:

I’m a big fan of the leetle puppy-faced batlets. There is beauty everywhere you look. :)

  15. The newest party craze: Batrito hors d’oeuvres. They’re flying off of the trays.

  16. It looks like Maggie Simpson.

  17. I did. I don’t know how they keep getting in. It’s a really old Victorian house and there’s probably a hole here or there.

  18. Every baby is cuuuuute!

  19. After what just happened in Colorado, thank you for spreading the bat-related cute. People need to have bat-related cute to counteract something so horrible.

  20. 260Oakley says:

Yes, these are little goodwill embatsadors.

  21. I love that there are several different species represented! With white nose syndrome decimating the population in the northeast I don’t get to see as many as I’d like to. We used to have families (including babies) in the barn but for the last few years there’s only been one.

  22. *bookmarking*
I’m keeping this to show my mother whenever she’s acting ornery

I love bats, she says they give her the major heebyjeebies

  23. some of their faces are so dog-like. they’re so cute so cute so cute!!! weeee!!!!!

  24. Victoria, Mom to 4 Rats (and one spoiled kitty) says:

Not cute? Really? Tries very hard to comprehend a mind that does not equate baby bats with teh cute. (but, but, the big brown eyes, the little black nosies!). Mind asplodes with the pressure.

Nope. I don’t get it. Baby bats DO equal teh cute.
Then again, there are some critters that other people equate to teh cute that I just can’t. Like monkeys. *Shivers*

  25. Scout C says:

If you have a fireplace, check to be sure the damper is fully closed. If they are little brown bats (real name, not just subjective description), they are like mice and can get in through tiny openings, so check the caulking around windows, dryer vents, and any other openings to your home. Having been bitten by one that got into a lake cottage and going through the rabies vaccination series (better than in days gone by but still a – literal – pain in the tush) I find it difficult to find them “cute.” The flying foxes, okay.

  26. I LOVE bats!!! All bats!! Even vampire bats!

  27. Theresa says:

    *swack swack swack swack*

  28. Theresa says:

    HAW

  29. ** groan **

  30. skippymom says:

Now I want to hold a baby bat so much I may start whimpering.

  31. emmberrann says:

Bats eat bugs! Bats = good!

  32. I’d like a dozen batritos to go please ! OMG ! Would you look at the size of those feet !!!!

  33. The third photo was the one that melted my heart! Look at those wee little toes!!

  34. KIttyMarthaPoo says:

Of course they’re sweet. They’re baybeees!! They say that bats actually are gentle creatures. The poor dears get a bad rap.

  35. THey are probably entering through the attic at the air vents. go in your attic and look where the roof and the walls meet. you will find where they are getting in.. or better yet have an exterminator come in to help you locate egress they can set up nets that the bats can get out but not back in so no bats are hurt that way. I am guessing there is a possible nest in your attic. SO you get rid of one and onother just comes down.

  36. Bats are awesome. So sad about the peole in Aurora. Sending hugs and warm thoughts out to them,.

  37. Sharon Wilson says:

Cute bebeh bats, but CREEPY big claws!

  38. The Original Jane says:

Remember peeps, they eat TONS of insects every night. LOVE that about them!

  39. Love love LOVE little bats!

    Even their squicky little fingers!

  40. Clearly, this little bat has such long, clawed toes for the same reason a baby squirrel does: to climb trees, or at least to hang onto similar surfaces. I wonder whether this is a case of a baby yet to grow into oversized feet?…

  41. Sasha's Mum says:

Sloths and bats in one day … you are killing me! (Add me to the list of bat-lover.)

  42. skippymom says:

This reminds me that I need to buy a bat house. Any of you guys have them? Do they really attract bats?

  43. Beautiful bats, gorgeous post, all the more beautiful for your addendum Meg. RIP to all departed, much love peace and prayers to the injured and all left behind. Xxx

  44. fish eye no miko says:

    Pic #4: “My precioussss!”

Sweet pictures! I know bats aren’t everyone’s thing, but I loff them!

  45. What the f@#%$ is wrong with people?

Now they’re banning costumes and backpacks at the theaters near me.

  46. lds7yrs says:

    *evil giggles*
    I like that plan!

  47. Those are the most delicate and precious things; the third pic is just awesome!

  48. bob drummond says:

Too bad some real bats didn’t show up -maybe they could’ve counter-attacked ! (Just wishful speculation !) May the good LORD help those people who were hurt by that sadistic madman !!!

  49. bob drummond says:

    What about baseball bats ???

  50. 6rabbits says:

NOT exterminators!!! EXCLUDERS!! Exterminators KILL the bats. Here is a link to Bat World’s page on bats in buildings. There is a link which will take you to listings of professional excluders provided by Bat Conservation International. You can also download DIY instructions here. The bats thank you! :-)

  51. 6rabbits says:

In some Asian countries (China, Thailand, Guam) bats ARE served as food. :-(

  52. 6rabbits says:

YES, if you put them in the right place. (Too many people put them in trees.) See the organizations below for more info! :-)

  53. Lerrinus says:

The swaddling is what gets me! Eeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!

  54. 6rabbits says:

Flying foxes are the largest kind of bat. They weigh between
1 1/2 and 2 pounds, and wingspan, tip to tip, is 4-5 ft. So, yeah, they have to grow into those feet!
Pic 3 looks like the black flying fox https://encrypted-tbn3.google.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcT0xTQlExGKYxwCMPVHvecNdz–47XKvCb0_TqbhokB7KnTCgfbLQ
and pic 5 looks like the spectacled flying fox https://encrypted-tbn3.google.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRAPjK4jzeE56sDEPDrWfs17V8LVtQdDZLYLg9Ai6laPoh0LnWClA

  55. I love bats, too, bob drummond and I don’t give a beavers’ dam what others think about bats either :D

  56. I second that, bob drummond :(

  57. I think these are fruit bats.

  58. tommygirl says:

how can people not think these are cute??

  59. Tiny, cute chiroptera!!!

  60. ALL MINE.

  61. bob drummond says:

    Thank you Terry !

  62. I always thought they looked like mice with wings.

  63. Tiggywinkle says:

Ittty bitty batlings! How can you not find them cute? Put me on the bat-lovers list!

  64. Baturito !!

  65. BatBlaster says:

Which means i can’t show up dressed as a bat.

  66. BatBlaster says:

Try googling bat hug. Or just go to http://www.tehcute.com/bat-hug.html

  67. crestedlover says:

OMG they soo adorable! I love bats!

  68. Batblaster says:

Yeah, they are cute. But as stated above, we need to do something about white nose syndrome this winter.
