These two orphaned baby ground squirrels arrived on their own at Coast & Canyon Wildlife Rehabilitation. After a health check, they’re matched with other babies their size ~ they do so much better with a buddy to snuggle, play and grow up with. This is the moment they met for the first time. These two best buds are now in an outdoor enclosure ~ the last step in preparing them to be released back into the wild in a few weeks.

As my erudite son would say of the one on the right – “Squirrel wants ice cream.” (That is his answer whenever I ask him what the squirrels outside are doing. Who knows why.)
This reminded me of the little stuffed animals you can get, usually before Valentine’s day, that have magnets in their lip area (and sometimes paws also) so they will be pulled into a kiss anytime their faces come close. They look just like this!

He may be right–I suspect that squirrels pretty much always want ice cream.
