Chicago’s Brookfield Zoo welcomed a new bison calf May 16, their first bison birth since the 1970′s. After tentatively exploring her surroundings (and a lunch break), the little lady’s ready to start her own personal stampede. Yeeeee-haw!

All tuckered out now:

    Q. What’s the difference between a buffalo and a bison?

    A. You can’t wash your hands in a buffalo.

    • Sharpy says:

that may be true in australia, but here in CO-land, anyone can skate in a buffalo herd.

Stampeding isn’t much fun if nobody else will stampede with you (baby buffalo sticks lower lip out).

      Nice lower lip !!!

but Mom was right there with her!!

(not sure, whether Mom going along, counts as fun or as “hovering parenting” ….)

How can something that looks so grizzly as an adult, look so cute as a baby?

  11. Marie says:

Squeeeeee! I just want toss a blankie on that leetle honey and ride like the wind too!
(Should be mandatory viewing for all bison hunters.)

I think the baby’s “stampede” might be a little more intimidating if it’s back end was going the same direction as it’s front end. ( I doubt it would be as cute however)

So, what you’re saying is, there hasn’t been a baby buffalo there since around the time of the bison-tennial?

I ADORE bisons! They’re so . . . so prehistoric looking! You can still see their ancestors painted in the caves in Europe.

Bison are adorable. I live in southern Maine (in a rural area, only 5 minutes away from downtown) and my neighbors down the road actually raise bison. There’s only a small wire fence holding them in from the road and houses. Seeing bison is an every day occurrence for me :)
