Chicago’s Brookfield Zoo welcomed a new bison calf May 16, their first bison birth since the 1970’s. After tentatively exploring her surroundings (and a lunch break), the little lady’s ready to start her own personal stampede. Yeeeee-haw!

All tuckered out now:

  3. It just doesn’t matter what kind of baby they are, they’re all CUTE!!!! 🙂

  4. 260Oakley says:

And in the second pic it’s a buffa-lo-down. Time to take a buffa-load-off, I guess.

  6. i don’t think i’ver ever seen a baby bison before. they kind of look like baby horses. in an awkward but cute way.

  7. beeplaysbass says:

  8. Theresa says:

  9. Where seldom is heard
    An encouraging t***

  10. 260Oakley says:

    Been keeping a buffa-lo-profile….

  11. Level 1 Tauren discovers speed potions. Is called a noob by older, wiser Taurens. Enjoys it anyway.

  12. Tony James says:

    Q. What’s the difference between a buffalo and a bison?

    A. You can’t wash your hands in a buffalo.

  13. I was thinking humpback cow. In a cute way.

  14. In (Buffalo) Springfield?

  15. Stampeding isn’t much fun if nobody else will stampede with you (baby buffalo sticks lower lip out).

  16. kodalai says:

And the streams have been cloudy all day.

  17. kodalai says:

They look more like taunka than tauren… >.>

  18. Fird Birfle says:

    “boing-y, boing-y, BOING!!!!”

  19. Fird Birfle says:

*applause from the crowds in the bleachers*

  20. Fird Birfle says:

    Nice lower lip !!!

but Mom was right there with her!!

(not sure, whether Mom going along, counts as fun or as “hovering parenting” ….)

  21. How can something that looks so grizzly as an adult, look so cute as a baby?

  22. That is actually encouraging the baby to run lots in the wild he would have to be able to run fast and long to escape whiley preditors.

  23. Robin McKiernan Kiesel says:

    Wiley coyote?

  24. Squeeeeee! I just want toss a blankie on that leetle honey and ride like the wind too!
(Should be mandatory viewing for all bison hunters.)

  25. I think the baby’s “stampede” might be a little more intimidating if it’s back end was going the same direction as it’s front end. ( I doubt it would be as cute however)

  26. Rachael says:

Yay, Oakley’s back!!! *whirling the dervish right out of my chair*

Also, how stinkin’ adorbs is that bebbeh boofalo!

  27. *waving pompons*

  28. that may be true in australia, but here in CO-land, anyone can skate in a buffalo herd.

  29. So, what you’re saying is, there hasn’t been a baby buffalo there since around the time of the bison-tennial?

  31. dgerish says:

  32. dgerish says:

  33. bob drummond says:

Thank you, folks, thank you very much !

  34. Leilani says:

I ADORE bisons! They’re so . . . so prehistoric looking! You can still see their ancestors painted in the caves in Europe.

  35. sleekityin says:

That’s probably what Mickey Rourke’s parents asked themselves repeatedly.

  36. Bison are adorable. I live in southern Maine (in a rural area, only 5 minutes away from downtown) and my neighbors down the road actually raise bison. There’s only a small wire fence holding them in from the road and houses. Seeing bison is an every day occurrence for me 🙂

  37. *applause*
