The Mesker Park Zoo in Evansville, Indiana is proud to welcome a new baby klupsprinkler… er, klipspringer. Meaning “rock jumper” in Afrikaans, the karpspanker is a relative of the antelope native to southern Africa. The new baby is one of about 30 kryptospelunkers in zoos across America.

You crack me up, NTMTOM! I have no idea what this little one is, but I have a lot of names for what it is not. Whatever it is called, it is 100 percent adorable.
The scientific name starts with Oreo. Dawwww
Those huge eyes totally slay me. They remind me of the leucistic sugar glider.
Dem ears!
I know! All folded over and baby cute!
Inquiring minds want to know: would a kryptospelunker be searching caves for kryptonite?
(And can I go sproinging with this baby when he/she does go searching?)
Either that, or it lives in ice caves…..
Every backyard needs a karpspanker!
Nay, every living room needs a klarpshpracker!
And every front yard needs a klupsprinkler! Nothing makes the grass green like klup, sprinkled evenly about by little hooves and moist nosies.
What a cutie pie! But seriously, any anipal sproingy enough to have the word “springer” in its name really SHOULD come with video. Just sayin’…
How do you say “Where’s Bea” in Afrikaans?
here…he’s not springin’…but you could boop him… https://www.google.com/search?tbm=vid&hl=en&source=hp&biw=1249&bih=739&q=baby+klipspringer&gbv=2&oq=baby+klipspringer&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&gs_sm=12&gs_upl=3154l12688l0l17511l17l17l0l7l0l0l124l1157l0.10l10l0
Thank you Cellarmouse! I especially like the one when he gets his bottle!
Yay! They are adorable in motion.
I almost choked on my apple piece at “karpspanker”. Well done CO you’ve made my day
agreed, that was pretty funny 8D
I almost choked without any food items on every non-name. Or would that be NOM name.
i bet this li’l guy springs mighty klips at a single bound…well, he will one day…
NTMTOM, you kill me!
(And who has a budget for proof-readers these days?)
(Based on my observations, essentially no one!)
*raises hand*
*quickly scrawls out sign which reads “will proofread, for kittiez….”
*shifty eyes*
*snerk*
hahahahhahahaha!!!!
THAT is a clever ploy!
wee knobby tippytoe baby!
“Knobby knees!!! Knobby knees!!! Knobby knees!!!”
*continues dancing & cavorting around the room*
Aww, he looks like claymation Rudolph! http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lvzs929UBN1qbw9gxo1_500.jpg
Exactly! He does not look real….
Little klipspringer is standing on his kliptoes
Yes, this little one is from my native land and is indeed a klipspringer.
It’s adorable.
Ahhh, oh god! Help me! Hold me! What IS that?! *heart rate increases to 130 BPM* Why is it so cuuute?!! It’s leetle clenchy, hoof-y, cloven-y footed feets! *having trouble breathing* What?! I don’t understand! Please just hold me hand. *curls into fetal position* Why are its eyes so plink-y, shiny, mezmerizin’?!! What’s with the mouf?! Dear lord, the bitty teefers!! *starts sucking thumb* It’s looking into my very soul! Why?! *Ded of the qte*
On a totally non-crazy note. Anyone else notice what looks like a shaved place on his neck? Had blood pulled perchance? No, wait, I’m thinking it’s so his leetle ascot fits better against the neck.
Somebody get the Hello Kitty Defibrathingy! STAT!
To go along with the whole no-proofreader meme, the url for this defibrathingamajig pic (not the HK model, unfortunately), includes
yet ANOTHER typo [note adjective about hospital patient] !!!

re: the reverse soul-patch: enjoy the ascot-fitting theory, but likely where the ‘clip’ in ‘klippenschproinger’ comes from.
I am here from Cute Overload Overlook to help you. See, this is what happens when regular people: er, cuteovloaders anyway, are subjected to TOO MUCH of Teh Cute. I shall hold your hand. I shall still your tremblinks. I shall take over your Cute Overload account so I have double the Cute. Purely in you best interests of course, dear Mamabear. There, there: feelinks better now?
ok. this one got an out loud chuckle!
I feel a major snorgle coming on.
Oh, a Klurtzshproinker.
No, that was my first husband.
No, wait, a Klotzshplutzer.
That, or a Cowknicker.
No, pardon me. Oh course *shuffling pages of Cute Critter Field Guide* it’s a Knopzshtoinkler!
Try the next page: the Clowncobbler.
Wait a minute, wait, I’m wrong again! It’s a Klirpshnickler!
I think you’ve got that confused with the Carpwhistler.
Oh Em Gee!!! The teef!
I’m not sure if that’s a grin or Baby’s First Snarl. A terrifying Crabsprinkler snarl.
Eeeeeeeeek! The terror is unbearable.
Hahaha NOMTOM and all the commentator peeps are en fuego today. Love you all.
We have those right here on Table Mountain! They’re so tiny and sweet but very shy. They look just like real bokkies (antelope to yous folks) that have shrunk.
It just occurred to me that we have lots of things with “spring” in the name: springbok (our national animal and rugby team), springkaan (grasshopper), springmielies (popcorn – “mielies” are what we call corn). I’m sure I’m forgetting lots
.
Jo in Cape Town
Jo, do a lot of things go jumping around where you live?
Well, we don’t have those jumping beans or any kangaroos
.
Being the youngest gifted member of the ballet company, many were in awe of her speed and technical ability to master being on pointe at so young an age!
wonder if this works… (I’m a hitech morron – wonder if the M word sends me off to the Mod Lounge) https://www.google.com/url?q=http://www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DzoLhIvVj7nc&sa=U&ei=98xVT7STNY_ktQbwwejKBg&ved=0CEkQtwIwBg&usg=AFQjCNEgJD7i_v45mHyOxLtiY6FraaHatA
Crips-Punker. Its cuteness could reform gang-infested neighborhoods.
HAHA!
His fur reminds me of Barney Fife’s salt-n-pepper suit! What a beautiful little thing.
*immediately makes this kerp…splanky… whatever it is my new desktop image*
Wait wait wait, you forgot the most precious fun fact ever! The little klipspringers are strictly monogamous and stay within a few feet of their mate at all times, taking turns eating and watching for predators. (Source: Zooborns)
Just like the Dik Diks that I saw in Arica, wee little creatures that stay with their mate. If you see one look carefully because its mate will be very close. I fell in love with those wee animals, they were my favourite of the whole trip.
This naming debate puts me in mind of Eddie Izzard’s musings on Englebert Humperdinck, wish I knew how to add a vid!!
*GIGGLES MADLY* I <3 Eddie Izzard!
Here it it..
OMG I <3 Eddie Izzard
Might be NSFW….
Yeyyy! Thanks girlies
We want to adopt him! So cute!
Bella and DiDi
Thank you Mike, you have no idea how much I needed that laugh!!!
*shrieks* It’s so cute I can’t stand it!
I will mate him with my Dik Dik and call it a Klip Dik or a Dik Klip or a Springer Dik or a Dik Springer, well you get it. I will create the cutest little toy, rock jumping cuteness on 4 legs.
I will be available for babehsitting duties whenever you require.
and yet give him that porn name?
*tisk tisk*
MMMPH! Trippy Trappy little hooveses! [steals tiny deer; lets go on hardwood floor; picks up, turns in other direction to hear it all overs again]
Love the onomatopoetic klippy-goat-gruff noises of ‘trip trap’!
Klodhopper?
Kilpklopper?
Klaphammer?
Krustkicker?
Klipensproinger?
don’t forget “lurkensproing”
Doop doop de doop, just coming back to take another peek at the leetle Klorfshmuttchlers.
Need an XCU of the teeny toeshoe feet.
