I’ve been following Siku’s progress on ZooBorns. He’s beyond adorable.

  5. Flutterby says:

Awwwww bebeh polar bear…..chugs his meelks, then piddles all over his caretaker… LOL. He even sounds like a hooman bebeh while he’s falling asleep !!

  6. Mary (the first) says:

Didn’t we meet Siku here already? I know I met him somewhere. He’s still adorable!

  7. Sno says:

He seems to leak a bit! :-) Who would have known that polar bears aren’t watertight…

  8. Violet says:

It’s not hard to figure out what he was dreaming about. :) So cute!!

Meanwhile, over at “Sweet Guys of C.O.” we now have our Scandinavian entry. And so glad to see he was picked especially for us more “mature” ladies!

    • Laura says:

Oh, he is a sweet guy, alright!

    • cellarmouse says:

so true…he’s as sincerely “wanting to help” as my dad and my sweetie (ok, i know it’s wrong to gloat – just statin’ facts – don’t hate me cause i was lucky); but it’s totally clear that females are better evolved than males to nurture teeny-tinies…

for heaven’s sake, cradle him, let him suckle after tthe milk is gone, enjoy his wee, warm pipi, and snuggle him to sleep…otherwise he’ll grow into a great, big polar bear that can rip your arm off…oh yeah…thanks guys…

otherwise he may grow up to be abig tough polar bear that can rip your arm off…

      ohhh… necer mind

    • Andi from NC says:

      indeed!!

    • jmurgs says:

I dunno..I’m a somewhat younger lady and even I can appreciate this fella. Although, you hand any man a baby polar bear with an empty chubby belly to fill up and it’ll up his sex appeal at least 50%.

  11. Red Toenails says:

    night, night siku!

  12. Celia says:

The belleh! And the tiny honk-shus at the end!! I am in lurv.

  13. Legotech says:

Tubby bebeh belleh and TONGUE on my…off to volunteer at the zoo to see if I can get to play with bebeh animules

  14. Kallisto73 says:

    One word: paws

  15. Dash says:

Cracks me up — the insta wee wee as he tops off his meelks tank with slurpage.

  16. Theresa says:

“What is cute?” Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart said “I know it when I see it.” :P

    • tracylee says:

hey, uh, Justice… can I volunteer for the pre-screening process?? I’m a pretty good judge of Teh Qte, if I do say so m’self…

  17. Linda H. says:

I am speechless. Absolutely speechless. Did I say speechless?

  18. Fird Birfle says:

erm…that “meelk” looks a bit, more like melted buttah, from here ……

    • cellarmouse says:

noticed that, too…maybe arctic animals “mother’s milk” has got as much “blubber” as the rest of “em…

      • wuyizidi says:

Polar bear milk is 33% fat, same as other marine mammals. By comparison human milk is only 3-5% fat.

    • Rachel of Cyberia says:

No wonder they’re having a butter shortage…it’s all going to the polar bears!

      • Moony says:

Except this is from Denmark, and it’s Norway having the butter shortage ;)

But yeah, no, polar bears and seals produce colostrum that is very high in fat content. That, and colostrum for most animals is yellowish in colour. Cow colostrum is, too, for example!

  19. ThirdShift says:

Gawd-a-mightey! This is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen! Hard to believe this little guy one day will be a thousand-pounder machine of DEATH. Need a translation for caretaker dialogue, please, somebody!

  20. lggbie says:

the tongue! the tongue! it keels me! so cute, this one.

  21. Decca says:

As a lifelong insomniac I see videos like this and wonder why I can’t ever sleep like that. But then I remember that while lying wide awake tonight I can think of this adorable little guy and still smile.

  22. the bug man says:

    Job: want.

  23. Vigs says:

Is this the same polar bear cub that was in the news a few weeks ago? Because from the screen that comes up at the end of the video, it looks like this cub is already grown up by now. I’m confused. Charmed, but confused.

  24. eknirb says:

i was watching this with my wife, and let me tell you the small snurfling noises @ the end just blew us both up. boom. done. finito. that’s it.

  25. ceejoe says:

oh good heavens, for some more pictures, go to http://www.zooborns.com/zooborns/2012/01/all-eyes-on-siku-the-baby-polar-bear-sensation.html

  28. Flutterby says:

Aww heck…supposed to be 8-O in response to hot tams

  29. Grace says:

I didn’t think I’d ever really do this…. But I totally tickled that belleh on my screen. :)

    • Andi from NC says:

Thank goodness I wasn’t the only one!!!!!

    • MEK says:

Grace: I read your post tooooo quickly and saw:

“But I totally LICKED that belleh on my screen”

My re-read corrected my mis-interpretation, but for a second, I thought…. WOW, she’s got it baaaad!

  30. Marie says:

Nooooo! It stopped at the best part. :(

That man is such a good papa to Siku. You can see his heart is already stolen.

  31. Mudbug says:

The TOE BEANS !!!!!! Must kiss the soft little toe beans !!!!!
Is that weird ? All my “kids” have gotten used to having their T.B.’s kissed & a few of them even give me their paws to kiss when I cradle them like a baby and one of them likes to gently stroke my face with his.

  32. The Original Jane says:

No one has noticed the curly EYELASHES at 1:12????? Gaaah!

  33. Michael says:

I read the same article about “what makes something cute” and thought for certain it would cite the Rules of Cuteness, and credit Meg’s World Headquarters of Cuteology, but it did not. Journalism today!

  34. All the extreme youth of all animals – including US – hoomin beings – all is CUTE – and Cute Rules OK. Lovely people – once you too were cute – you too were little and plumptious and cuddly. I have some old baby pictures, taken back in 1936 – and I was indeed the neatest, cutest lil thing. Who could not have loved me, you may well want to ask if you ever see those pix. Now, well I guess I am something older, not much wiser, but still with the vestiges of cute – around the edges. Hair aint black no more, but I notice them lil laughter lines around the eyes (still green eyes but faded just a tad) are cute.
What right have I to say this, Tell you – all my friends are so much younger than am I and three I have been allowed to adopt (in jest !) as make-believe grandchildren, and they are so dear. People of my own age simply rattle the bars of my cage, for their lack of appreciation of Teh Cute. Advice for people getting Old – you can presetve your Cute by taking an interest in the Youth – they are beyond CUTE, even the mixed-up ones – those to whom I am a “Nanna” – I love them to pieces

    • Rachael says:

You’re not even old enough to be my mommy but I’d love for you to adopt me as a make-believe grandchild. *hug*

    • Copperbat says:

Nanas are cute too! Especially the kind that clatter around the kitchen in their flour-dusted aprons or knit psychedelic beanie hats!

  35. Bookender says:

    TRANSLATION AHOY, yays!:
While feeding: “Aw, that’s good. That’s nice.” *rinse and repeat*
During pre-piddling: “Ah! You were really hungry! Now we juust need to take care of both ends, right? We do have to.”
Piddling: “Come on now.” (while Siku is struggling and is more interested in suckling on a finger)
Putting down: “There! Bom! Bommelum.” (it’s a nonsencial word, really – the onomatopoeia of putting down something heavy)

  36. Snorglepup says:

A wise woman indeed who can still see the cute within us all. Thanks Nanna-bear.

  37. jen says:

    the belly! the paws!! aaaaaaaaaaaa!

  38. Flutterby says:

Thanks for the translation Bookender ! I love it when peeps translate for those of us who are linguistically challenged, such as myself ….

  39. Becky Slam says:

Oh merciful heaven, I cannot take the bebeh tongue nor can I take the baby paw swipe, and I cannot take the glugging of the meelks. My only hope and prayer is that Siku lives a longer life than his much beloved predecessor, Knute. He is SO worthy of saving by kind human hands. May God bless this bebeh bear and his keeper!

  40. kodalai says:

    amg, polar bear eyelashes!

  41. LilJ says:

omigawd look at his fat little belly!

  42. milkfilledandroid says:

oh my so cuute. so glad for the sleepy-sounds. Not sure which i liked better the bear or his caretaker. Ok both, for completely different reasons. I so hope there are men like that in this country.

  43. Fleurdamour says:

That is one milk-chugging fool. He attacks that bottle like a beer bong.

  44. Banquo says:

Ok,.. at first glance I thought this was Neil Peart feeding a polar bear cub and the “all things right with the world” center of my brain almost exploded.

  45. Alice says:

What a precious baby. I hope it continues to do well. Thanks for sharing.
