four feet AND a tail is too much.

  2. cellarmouse says:

it’s like a human newborn randomly nomming his own fingers but mainly missing his mouth and scratching his cheeks…

    • PJ says:

Exactly! Or trying to bring both of its hands together in front of its face, but just not managing to make ‘em meet.

  3. ceejoe says:

I want to run over there and HELP the little baby!

And I love when the camera pans out, so that you can see how teensy he really is compared to the adults.

  4. Juno says:

You know, if Henry Mancini had seen this before composing “Baby Elephant Walk,” it would have sounded very different.

  5. BB/VA says:

I like the crossed legs at :12.

It’s something, it’s here, it’s like it’s right under my nose, but I just can’t see it.

What is Mama doing with her OWN trunk???

    • patris says:

Looks like she is pulling up yummy grasses to eat.

      • Moi, Actually says:

Right, but she seems to use her foot from time to time to help out her trunk. Hmmm, wonder if that is the elephant equivalent of using your finger to push food onto your fork.

  12. Theresa says:

So much like the kittehs with their tailios, AKA “That Evil Thing Attached to My Butt.”

  13. Peruna says:

Aaaaaaaa I can’t resist little baby elephants and their uncontrollable little trunks! :’3

  14. flutterby says:

I could watch that all day long !! NTMTOM’s lead-in is priceless!

Bwahaha and ha, Theresa re kitteh tailios ! They never outgrow the fascination with that, as it truly seems to have a mind of its own…

  15. Katie says:

It’s okay, li’l elephant. You’ll get the hang of that thing eventually.

  16. Fird Birfle says:

  17. Fird Birfle says:

I think that we ought to contact Jack Hanna and he could enroll
the lil’ bebbeh in an “introductory ephelunts” course. :)

    • Wend says:

Brilliant! I’m sure that’s just what the little guy needs. (shifty eyes).

      • Miriam says:

“This is how you pluck grass kids. See, look and see what your friend is doing behind you. Thaaaattt’s it, you curl your trunk around the grass and yank. Up. Nope, you missed the grass. Try again, you’ll get it. Curl, yank and up up to your mouth. It’s okay, you can use your foot to help if your trunk muscles are tired. No no, try not to squash your trunk with your foot. Riggght, now you put the grass in your mouth. And that’s enough for today kids. Next lesson will focus on chewing.”

        • victoreia says:

          AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!1!!!!!!!!11!!!!!1

That’s close to what I was thinking!

          • Miriam says:

Let’s go “borrow” a baby ellie and film it! We’ll be famous. All over YouTube….(where we can watch from our prison cell.)

    • Sasha's Mum says:

Speaking of Jack Hanna … I was so happ to see this post as a much nicer wild-animals-in-captivity scene antidote to how I’m feeling about the horror show going on in Zanesville, Ohio. What a nightmare. I hope there’s a special place in hell for people who do that kind of thing.

  18. eknirb says:

    (BOOM.)
head just exploded. Maximum level of cute exceeded.
    Now I’m typing w/o a head.
    Swell.

  19. Sarah says:

that might be the sweetest thing I have ever seen. His trunk is so rubbery when he steps on it.

  20. RosieLB says:

Why has no one mentioned the HOLY EYE CAPSULES!?!

  21. gryt says:

He’s trying to do like the big elephants… pretend-eating grass. Awwn. It’s like when human kids imitate adults! That’s really cool.

  22. Becky Slam says:

And I thought MY nose was big. Poor widdoe babeh stepped on his own

  23. TMcHugh says:

  24. Countess says:

  25. Lerrinus says:

He looks a little wobbly!

  26. Nikki says:

OMG. What a cutie patootie! I love the tentative steps while trying to figure out the trunk. Obvy it is waaayyy too hard to walk and explore a new trunk at the same time. So sweet. And I just ADORE the little hair sprouts on his forehead. Little heffalump comb-over. Sweet.

  27. Michele W says:

I love it!! That is my favorite part of watching a new born elephant is its trunk. At the Pittsburgh zoo we had two baby elephants born last year and I never laughed so hard as watching the trying to walk and use thier trunks. It is like it is there but it has a mind of its own :) We were laughing because they had little baby pools set up ( the little blue plastic ones) and one of the babies came over to the window and was interacting with the kids like trying to figure out what the heck we were and then it went to get in the pool and tripped and stumbled in. I could watch them alllllllllll DAY!!!!!

  28. angelyne says:

I think it was a bit sad. The grass was so short they couldn’t really eat any. Elephants in the wild eat all the time. They need to to feed all that bulk. I’m sure the elephant are well fed but they probably don’t know what else to do with their free time. It’s like people taking away our computer, we’re all….okay now what??

  29. Tori Rudzik says:

Maybe babeh ephelunts grow into their trunks like puppys grow into there big feets???? I have tall grass but I can’t find my babeh ephelunt :o (

  30. car9l says:

I just want to run over and help him out! he is so cute he need hugs and kisses!

  31. kodalai says:

I wonder, do baby elephants suck their trunks like baby humans suck their thumbs?

    • @ kodalai I am sure that is so. I have read and so much enjoyed the other comments but thinking about that all the time.
@ gryt – sure !! aint that how WE all learn

  32. J. says:

He’s acting as if he has something stuck in his mouth. It’s not actually funny if you see the signs. Have you ever seen your dog get something stuck in its mouth, behing a molar? They’ll paw at it with all four paws, trying to free it. This baby elephant seems to be trying to do the same.

  33. Rachael says:

Mommy, why I haz 2 tails?

  34. Lisa C says:

SQUEEEEEEE!!!!! OMG he can’t make his apendages work yet. SO CUTE.

  35. kittykat416 says:

I have an hard enough time trying to manage just 2 feet, so I feel for the little guy trying to deal with 4!

  36. fleurdamour says:

He just CANNOT seem to get it together, can he? Poor little heffalump.

  37. Fran says:

“Did this THING come with instructions?” 1) Straighten it to place on ground (failed)
    2) Drag it along the ground (failed) 3) Suck up something FOUND THERE to eat (failure – not your fault) 4) Bring it to mouth – located somewhere under IT (failed)
    5) Repeat 6) Failure again? …. See Mom for a drink.

  38. Kelly Ann says:

I think I read it takes baby elephants almost a year to figure out their trunk. This is so precious. I think all elephants are just wonderful, but the babies are huggable looking. OH!

  39. Lady Medusa says:

Aww, he’s so wobbly and awkward. I love baby elephants

  40. mike says:

    “There. That straightened it out.”
