This, my friends, is BANANAS

“Cheeeese!”

According to The Daily Mail, the following portrait was taken by a macaque who became fascinated in a camera lens that was left idle, decided to borrow it and snap these awesome Monkey self portraits!

1: Stop monkeyin’ aroun’ with the camera!!!

2: Yup. It’s indeed a “cheesy” facial expreshe!

    • Fird Birfle says:

Also: (brace yerselves. This one’s fairly stinkeh…)
I heard that Rachel Zoe saw this photo. She commented that
      the monkey’s facial expression was ba.na.nas. :)

(also notes the possible derivation of screenname deusxmac….as a Certified Vocabulary Nerd, I’m somewhat familiar with the phrase Deus Ex Machina…:) )

  18. Fird Birfle says:

    Another, minimalist possible Caption/ Headline:

SMILE YOUR ON CANDID CAMERA !

  21. Jessy says:

Wonder if he hires himself out for weddings and portrait sessions?

  22. Ayaa says:

Anyone else ready to claim “instant bullcrap” simply because this was in The Daily Mail?

Something about the teeth looks incredibly off.

    • Sophie says:

I thought the same thing. To me it’d the eyes though. Nature doesn’t make beasts that look like Jim Henson knock offs. (or does it?)

    • Juno says:

Yeah, I immediately thought “bullcrap.” (To be fair though, that’s my response to just about everything.) For me, it’s the idea that he just happened to pick up this camera (“camera LENS”??) and not only snapped a picture, but one of himself, perfectly framed, etc.

    • Amy says:

Yeah, definitely a hoax. Cute picture, but a sham.

    • Marie says:

The eyes totally make him look like some sort of super Furby, or Farscape extra thing!! Or maybe like one of the creatures who talks to you when you’re riding Splash Mountain at Disney World?

  23. Kt says:

    8O

  24. Moi, Actually says:

Does my brow ridge look big in this?

  25. Jane says:

Best photobomb ever! (except he’s not in someone else’s photo)

  26. Rachael says:

It’s sad that the macaque is a better photographer than I am. Just like that gull was a better videographer than I am. Sheesh!

  27. I Haz a Funny Bone says:

    Banana’s-eye view! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  28. TheIglets says:

So I’m looking at the Daily Mail’s other photo and found myself mousing over for the hovertext!

  29. ElishaB. says:

Great story and pics, but how did he know not to eat the camera? Most animals try to eat things first dont’ they?

Just amazing how these creatures were not in the least bit scared of humans, just curious 8O

  30. Doobie says:

    I <3 the teefs.

  31. Evelyn says:

  32. Redscylla says:

Leonard had only just joined the A/V Club, so he was still having trouble figuring out some of the equipment.

  33. Alice Shortcake says:

Seagulls making home movies…monkeys taking photographs…surely it’s only a matter of time before a member of the animal kingdom works out how to upload stuff directly to YouTube.

    • Diana says:

My bet is on this kitty:

      He’s already bilingual. :D

      • Ipomen Scarlet says:

I love that video! My favourite bit is when the puss is barking, but then looks behind, and sees the owner. The cat then kinda clears the throat and begins meowing – cat style.

It’s like, “Oh. Hello. Um… meow?”

    • CathyDee says:

      Dogs and cats . . . . living together. . . . . MASS HYSTERIA!

  34. mplsdeb says:

Yeah, I am sure it’s photoshopped…too bad. It would such a hoot if that could really happen.
Looks like it could be right out of a pixar movie doesn’t it.

  35. kodalai says:

I showed this to a buddy of mine who works with monkeys, and she says this expression is actually a fear grimace. (Not trying to nuff — just some context.) When asked why the macaque would continue to play with the camera if he was frightened of it, she answered that they can be pretty dumb. Great teeth, though!

  36. Kim says:

This gave me the biggest smile (I probably looked a little like the macaque)

  37. Ruffian9 says:

Ok this story just made my day.

  38. this guy could teach the folks at Olin Mills a thing or two about awesome fauxtoes – he hit dead center too !

  39. earlybird1 says:

Hee hee! Did anyone else get reminded of the Serta sheep?

    Oh, and

  41. Calamity Jane says:

    That face is IMPOSSIBLE.

  42. edmundh says:

Technically, the macaque owns the rights to those pictures.
