Meanwhile, Squirrel vs. Lambo

Spoiler: BOTH WIN!

Sender-Inner McBrinkersons says: “OMG BEBEH SQURREL AVOIDS LAMBO GOING 200 MPH LUCKY LITTLE FELLA”

Comments

  1. You know when he got back to his squirrel buddies they were all high fivin’ the baddest squirrel around. Meanwhile Mum Squirrel was cleaning up the mess she made when he did that and planned on teaching that lad a lesson.

  2. Great, now all the OTHER squirrels are going to try to copy-cat that stunt and get themselves squeeshed! This video needs a “Stunts preformed by trained Pofessional Squirrelkins! Do not try this at home” warning on it. :O

  3. Help he lost part of his tail :(

    Poor squirrel.

  4. victoreia says:

    Seconded!

  5. I love them both.

  6. Chihgirl says:

And Speedy McSqirrelson wins by a whisker!

  7. Aw Man ! You gotta be one fast sqwirlio to avoid tires doing 200 mph !

  8. Faster than a speeding Lambo……………….

  9. Nah it is still there. Just tucked down.

  10. 8O

  11. Mary (the first) says:

See, when I read the capshon, I assumed “lambo” meant, you know, a babeh sheep. Pictured frolicking in the meadow, etc. This was a bit of a shock! But, YAY for happy endings!

  12. Christine says:

Not cute. I just had a heart attack. I killed a squirrel on a freeway entrance a few months ago — it ran under the car in front of me and then into my car. I couldn’t avoid it. :(

  13. My face got stuck in :O for a minute.

Often Squirrels see see the car as actually get back to where the tire track will be after passing that point. :(

This one was either in a truly hurry trying to make it to a date, or the Lambo was so fast he didn’t even see it coming at all!

  14. Mininini says:

How disappointing, I thought there would be a lamb in this video… ;)

  15. JenDeyan says:

Whoa… I feel dizzy after watching that. Never do that again, young man, er, squirrel!

  16. 6Rabbits says:

    That is one LUCKY squirrel!

  17. Tigerlilly says:

and what’s with the part flowing around in the left lower corner? :(

  18. Those squirrels will do anything if you double-dog dare them.

  19. Theresa says:

Me too. I was thinking something perhaps like Stephen Colbert’s “Monkey on the Lamb” thingie.

  20. Richard says:

I know how you feel, my incident was with a baby rabbit that hopped out of the grass verge at the side of the road before I could react. I reckoned/ desperately hoped it had passed under the middle of my car, but when I dared look in the rear view mirror I saw that it hadn’t.
I still feel bad about it.

  21. Lucky little squirrel, but I think its tail might be broken which is not really a good thing when you need it for balancing. Poor thing…

  22. It’s tucked down all right… but if you look at 0:13 there’s a barely noticeable part rolling after the car :(

  23. He loses the tip of his tail (you can see it bouncing down the track after the car passes over him), but luckily survives.

I’m not convinced it’s a squirrel though, it looks more like a skunk to me, judging by the size, colour, gait and the way the tail is carried.

  24. 260Oakley says:

Today’s highlight reel from Wide Squirrel’d of Sports (The thrill of victory, the agony of de feet on hot pavement…)

  25. That squirrel must be frm around here because they do that to me all the time.

  26. yeah when i first replied to my friend that posted this i was all yay! but then when i watched it again i read the comments that point out you can see the tip of his little tail bouncing down the road :( but as i told my friend, well, in my head the little guy is fine and happy, living with his little squirrel family, and just missing a little bit of his tail :)

  27. OMG it does look like that. I hope that is not really what it is.

  28. This isn’t a cute video, the poor thing loses the tip of it’s tail. =(

  29. Nah. Squirrel, young one. (Ever seen a skunk run?)

  30. *its

  31. Want!

    The Lambo, I mean.

  32. Lucy's Mommeh says:

OMG…I can’t tell you how many times I have similar incidences happen to me when I’m driving the Jeep Liberty at 60mph over a road that’s got vineyards or forest-y type areas on either side. I don’t dare swerve..but thankfully they tend to do this missing the tires thing…..who needs coffee in the morning when you have critters dashing out in front of you!!???

  33. Moi, Actually says:

    Agree. Scary, not cute.

  34. Good lord that gave me a heart attack!

  35. It’s OK, he’ll be fine. There’s a squirrel that I call Stumpy, that’s been coming to my feeders in the backyards for 2 years now, he has only a little stub of a tail and does everything the other squirrels do. At the one in the video can brag to all his friend at he lost it to a LAMBOGHINI!

  36. they also tend to do this getting squished by the tires thing. almost like they’re aiming for them thinking dark=safe.

good thing humans don’t have tails. you have to wonder how we evolved to slip under lambos, anyway.

  37. kibblenibble says:

    I can’t watch. Sounds too scary. :-(

  38. i had to go watch this again to get my composure back

    http://cuteoverload.com/2011/06/14/2011-a-squirrel-oddity/

  39. yolanda says:

We’re all sure it’s a squirrel, well, I’m not. You know it runs more like a ferret or similar creature. It’s also pretty big for a squirrel. Could be a weasel!

  40. *releases held breath* O.O

  41. I’m also too scared to watch.

  42. I’m with you, on that part.
    One lucky little squirrel.

  43. Fird Birfle says:

*pouts in a Highly Immature Manner, b/c the only avail ‘puter in the ‘puter lab won’t show the video*

(our apt manager feels that computers dating from approximately 1910 are fully adequate for 165 residents and stoutly refuses to put any money into them.
    Now the GROUNDS/ lawns, OTOH ….) 8-O

  44. Poor squirrel, listen carefully and you can hear his tail get hit by the car. The tail is definitely broken, as it would raise it to continue balance for all out run, and that may be a bit of its tail as well leaving the frame at the lower left.
Poor little squirrel will survive, but is in a lot of pain.

  45. Babette says:

I saw something like this happen as a cat was running across the street while a car was speeding by (way too fast for a residential neighbourhood). The cat was very lucky in timing his passage under the car without getting hit. I felt very queasy afterwards, but the cat was unharmed.

  46. starling says:

Better story than a farmer’s tractor (as was the case with our dog!).

  47. starling says:

    Word.

  48. Nom Chompsky says:

Poor little guy lost part of his tail :( They always pick the times when it’s most dangerous, “hey..I wanna be over there right….NOW”

  49. starling says:

I saw my neighbour’s cat make a stupid attempt to cross the road yesterday. Got halfway, saw cars coming, ran back, saw my car, ran back up, ran back, made it safely since I’d slowed down.

Still have to tell the neighbour her kitty is stupid (she’s only a young ‘un).

  50. You should see the squirrels out where we live. It actually looked rather small by comparison….

  51. Other than that, how was the theatre, Mrs. Lincoln?

    Sheesh.

  52. Ali-Baba says:

I dunno…the squirrel is pretty cute!
But I know whatchya mean about the heart attack… Back when I took drivers’ ed we had in-car practice with Coach Gill. Well, this huge bird takes off from some shrubs by the side of the road…”keep going” sez coach. Lucky me
    was driving that day! :-(

  53. me three

  54. bob drummond says:

We all have had our share of not so cute tragedies. Since I’ve been driving , i’ve taken out two squirrrels and a possum. I tried to avoid ‘em But to no avail . I felt sick over all three incidents, but the closest call I had was when a deer attempted to run in front of me. I slammed on my brake and so did she(?). I felt a slight bump to the rear passenger side but as i looked in the mirror, there was nothing there. What a close shave !!

  55. bob drummond says:

Skunks don’t run . They waddle as if daring you to hit ‘em. Phew! You don’t want to do that. I slowed down for one and gae him the right of way !

  56. bob drummond says:

Some squirrels are like Kamakazi Pilots. Pure suicidal nuts!

  57. Theresa says:

    Skunks don’t run. They swagger.

  58. flutterby says:

WOW! If that was me…there would be something else rolling down the road !! Skwerels are nuts!

  59. flutterby says:

Wonder if they have myriad lives like kittehs….deep thoughts…

  60. This video reminds me of an old Far Side cartoon “Hal made it! He’s in the club!”

  61. I also used to have a squirrel like that around my feeders. We called him Stubby. Cousin, perhaps, of Stumpy.

That squirrel in the video will be just fine. His tail-tip will sting for a couple of days until it scabs over, but in the end, he’ll get along fine. More importantly, that little incident will probably impress upon him the importance of not wandering into traffic.

  62. You could always try slowing down a bit. I know how that sounds, but the idea might just be crazy enough to work.

  63. There are two kinds of squirrels: smart ones and flat ones.

  64. Fird Birfle says:

They DO rather seem to have a bit of a Thug mentality, now that you menshon that …thefts, breakins; they already WEAR a face mask, fergoshsakes ….

no known marijuana or cocaine cartels have yet been arrested however …

  65. Fird Birfle says:

….able to get onto a computer whose equipment is from the 1970s rather than the 1910s, so was able to see the vid.

    1: I THO’T LAMBO meant a “widdwe wambie-poo” fluffy white animul :(

2: My title for this item would have read, as follows:

“The following video clip has been brought to you by
the “HEY GUYS WATCH THIS” Division of
Squirrels TV, Tom & Ray Magliozzi, co-CEO’s”

  66. starling says:

    *smartypants hat on*

They don’t get the chance to evolve to learn to stay out of the way of cars. Same with hedgehogs. The problem is that 99% of the time, they get killed. Which means that you don’t get the survival of the fittest (= those that are clever enough to learn to avoid cars) thing.

    *smartypants hat off*

  67. I think that thing blowing away is a leaf — it’s too light, and if any part of the squirrel had made contact with the car tyre, it would have been all over… PHEW.

  68. wuyizidi says:

Obviously none of you had a poster of red Lamborghini Countach LP500s in your bedroom during your formative years :)

  69. i think the trick is to drive a Lamborghini.

  70. Able to leap tall buildings at a single bound…..It’s Super Squirrel!

  71. Srsly?

  72. JayBrianna says:

I almost cried looking at that! Also that’s a weird looking squirrel

  73. KEEP. KITTIES. INSIDE.

  74. Nah, it looks fine! The tail is still there. I´m not sure what everybody is seeing here….

  75. Woah. That would have been one flat squirrel if that had been an inch off!

  76. Amen to that. I live in an alleyway, but at each end there are small, but busy roads (and people drive through them at lunatic speed sometimes!), and even that it is an alleyway…. 3 of the cats that live here were killed on those roads in just one year….

  77. Lucy's Mommeh says:

I would slow down if it was possible, but if someone is crawling up your backside, pouncing on the brakes justasthecrittercomestearingintothestreet would case entirely too much damage to vehicles ….and I’ve had whiplash once and DO NOT WANT again. If there’s enough time & safety allows, I do slow down.

  78. If that’s his tail, maybe it’s good that the one tyre touched the tip of the squirrel’s tail and held it back just that nano-second to prevent it from being squished by the next set of wheels…

  79. …and I thought only CATS had 9 lives.

  80. Kitty isn’t stupid, owner is. KEEP CATS INDOORS – ALWAYS!!!!

  81. I Haz a Funny Bone says:

Is that the one with the nearly (I think) naked woman draped over it? Not me, but my ex had it stashed away in a closet. ;-)

  82. But it’s so loong!

  83. Shannon says:

I really don’t think that is part of that squirrel’s tail as many seem to think. If the tire had run over the tail, whatever came off of it would most likely be squashed onto the road or the tire, not bouncing around like that. Probably it’s just a bit of road debris, a leaf or clump of dirt or something similar that got kicked up by the car’s wake.

  84. wuyizidi says:

No, although I know the one you’re talking about :) Mine is the one showing the top view of the car.

  85. luvstehQte says:

i also thought it looked more like a ferret/weasel type critter than a squirrel, but since i was only squinting at it through mostly closed eyes, i can’t really be sure. even with the spoiler alert, i still had to watch twice to assure myself that he really did make it across. WHEW!

  86. no, you can see that it’s definitely shortened and you can actually hear it getting clipped.. he’ll be ok. I bet he can grow extra long squirrel tail fluff.

  87. Missy B says:

    oo. yes. very true.

  88. DEEZ NOT KYEWT!

    DEEZ F*CKING HEART-ATTAX!
