Since the unfortunate passing of the original Disapproving Rabbit Cinnamon, the search is on for a new face of Disapproval. We want gravitas, depth, the same completely unfavorable opinion as Cinnamon expressed.

Our first contender is in from the ironically named Happy Farm Bunnies:

Contender number two, with his famous wrinkular grimacing is “Pancake” the pup:

Next up, contender 3 is a species you may not have expected to express annoyance. Cape Rain Frog condemns you!

Final contender number 4, White Kitteh With ‘Tude, renders us totally unsuitable:

Too bad about your bunnies, Grace! (Happy Farm Bunnies.) You’re pup’s not good enough, Mai N.! We don’t like even like frogs Vanessa H.! The kitteh’s not even close Animal Photography image library! Disapproval hoverfacts via Get Listy, The Guardian, We Interupt and Wikipedia.

  1. kibblenibble says:

I think I’m outnumbered, but I stoated “bun.” I’m traditional like that.

  2. drtmuir says:

Oh Mah Gaghghghgh. I am SLAIN.

  3. Rachael says:

That frog means bidness! I can feel his disapproval down to my bonez.

  4. That kitty looks like he/she MEANS business 😈

  5. Guinea Peeg Lover says:

    That. Puppy. Is. Angry.

  6. Guinea Peeg Lover says:

Stuck in moderation again… Ah, well.

  7. It is the bunny… bunnies exude disapproval from their very frist hops.. and this baby bunny is no exception.

  8. Frog seems REALLY pissed off at Toad today!

  10. Maerlyn99 says:

It is good to see that so many different animals have learned their trade thanks to Cinnamon. Cinnamon will be truly missed.

  11. Queen of Dork says:

*hides under bed from them all*

Wow. I feel so guilty and I don’t know what I did wrong. They all seem to be really, really angry at me and everything I’ve ever done since the 3rd grade but I had to vote for the frog. And then after I did that, I felt like the rest of them were extremely mad at me for not voting for them. (gulp)

  12. Queen of Dork says:

P.S. – duly condemned. (hangs head in shame)

  13. wannadance says:

but next to the others, that bun looks positively benevalent.

i love kitties the most, but DANG…

  14. warrior rabbit says:

But… it HAS to be a rabbit!

  15. May I say, that is not an EXTREMELY disapproving bun [see ‘Disapproval Bunday], but alas, I see Derby, who perhaps was even more approving than Cinnamon, has lollopped to that big cabbage patch in the sky, too.

  16. I voted for the pup. The pup frightens me with its sheer disapprovingness.

  17. kibblenibble says:

  18. I voted for Meg. Her disapproval must have surpassed them all after she was done. 🙂

  19. Disapproval HAS to be a bun. Accept no substitutes!

The other ones just look more… angry? than disapproving.

  20. I voted for the cat. Actually the pup looks more disapproving, but I don’t want you to present me with that face repeatedly.

  21. susan_rn92 says:

What is cute about disapproval anyways?

  22. Don’t you mean BUNevolent?

  23. I HAD to vote for the pup. His mastery of Stinkeye has both impressed and frightened me. Well done Pancake, well done.

  24. EVERYTHING, at least when it’s coming from an animal. From a human, not so much.

  25. Queen of Dork says:

hmmmmmm. I think I must concur with Gaz. Plus, I love the wording of “mastery of Stinkeye has both impressed and frightened me.” So perfectly said. I shall now eat dirt, be ashamed of myself and take a shower.

  26. Queen of Dork says:

Dang. Almsot everything I say on every thread causes me to be hurled into the Moderation Lounge. Could somebody please slip a slice of pizza through the door slot?

  27. Ditto!

  28. Mamabear says:

Can’t be the toad, cause he already has a title, it’s:

    All glory to the Hypnotoad!

  29. The disdainfully compressed lips on the toad won it over for me.
But I also agree with the voters who say that it must always be the bun-nays.
The baby bun has a disapproving mouth, but sweet eyes. But give the baby bun a few more years in this bad old world, and he’ll soon glare his disapproval like an old pro.

  30. Queen of Dork says:

*swirly eyes* Yes, Your Majesty. The Hipnotaod. I shall do your bidding, Your Royal Highness Majesty and All Such Titles such as Earl Of Lillypadilopulous and things like that and things and stuff. *swirly eyes and drooling in awe*

  31. hello rabbit says:

The bunny looks more tentative than disapproving, the cat more menacing, and the frog just isn’t cute enough to me to want as the poster child for disapproval. That pup, however, wants you kids to get off his lawn and is about to start grumbling about liberals and MTV any moment now. He got my vote.

  32. Queen of Dork says:

Dang. Scrolling back up and having another look, they all look REALLY furious. I think we’ve all done something horriby wrong. And I suspect we’re all in for an opening-up-of-a-can-of-Whup-Ass. *crap*

  33. bob drummond says:

It’s very hard to decide between the four, they’re all grumpy looking though, but I went for the pup ! He seems to have the sourest disposition of them all !!!!

  34. I had to vote Pancake. He’s so miffed, his frown goes all the way down to his toes.

  35. Dang . I’m torn between the pup & the kitteh but I’m thinking the kitteh is just a tad more menacing than disapproving. I can’t pick the bun because when my hubby & I went to look at a house today the most adorable wild bun hopped through the back yard just a few feet away from me & it didn’t disapprove of us deciding to get the house at all ! Now I’m going through my garden book looking for all the bun friendly things to plant in my soon to be new “bun garden”. I figure if I plant carrots, lettuce etc. they’ll leave the rhubarb I found alone. Plus I get to see all the buns !

  36. victoreia says:

I’d have to go with the pup; bebeh bun needs to work on the disapproval a bit. But a good first effort, nonetheless!

  37. Lol, I love the theremon soundeffect!

  38. I think the hedgehog in the springy egg cup down the page a few pics is considerably more disapproving than this particular bun! And who can blame him, really?

  39. frownies! I like the frog too–he looks like one of these: 😦

  40. starling says:

    You’re pup? *raises eyebrow*

He wins, by the way 😛

  41. Digitoonie says:

    Most def pancake.

  42. Hi Queenie! Missed you.

  43. The cat looks more like the poster child for Impending Doom than Disapproval. Pancake is just flat out hilarious. He looks so scowly, but you know this tail is wagging the whole time despite his wrinkly glare.

  44. *groan*

  45. Aurhora says:

I’m sure Cinnamon would disapprove of all of them!

  46. Malinki says:

  47. kibblenibble says:

    Agree agree agree! 🙂

  48. kibblenibble says:

Here, Queen, one with everything. 🙂

  49. Queen of Dork says:

*grabby hands* SLURP! CHEW! GOBBLE! Yummy!

    Thanks, kibblenibble! (BURP!)

  50. Agreed too. Disapproving bun is a staple, I’m sure there’re more canditates than this youthful learning bun. Violating this term is like eliminating Caturday and Bunday from the species whenever we feel like. 😐

  51. *candidates, darn it. This is what happens when I get all het up about bun tradition.

  52. tracylee says:

In the immortal words of Geo. Jones:

    Now the race is on
and here comes Pancake in the backstretch
Disapprovin’ goin’ on in the inside
    My guilt is holdin’ back
    We’re tryin’ not to fail
My heart’s out of the runnin’
Froglips are scratched for another’s sake
The race is on and it looks like heartaches
    and the winner loses all

  53. scarletgunn says:

I’m usually for cats in all things but Pancake is disapproving times ten. the Frog is a close second.

cats always have mean face. it’s not that exciting. :p

  54. Theresa says:

I know, I’m scared to vote for any of them; the accumulated disapproval from the rest of them might keell me.

  55. Theresa says:

Very majestic burp there, Queenie. 😀

  56. Theresa says:

Oh woe, I’m in moderation! Mojito, please!

  57. Lorel J says:

Hmmm. I’m torn. I, too, believe that it should be a bun, but Happy’s eyes don’t look disapproving enough. (The others look more angry – not enough haughtiness to balance out the anger, like Cinnamon had.) How old is Happy? Maybe s/he needs a little more mileage before developing that withering look.

  58. Alice Shortcake says:

Pancake is in a league of his own, but I love the expression on the frog’s face. You can almost hear him saying “Son, I am disappoint” to every tadpole whose egg he fertilized.

  59. Gawd, all that disapproval. I’ll just go away now. Geez…

  60. Oh the frog, the frog!!!!!!! I am so sorry & I swear I’ll never do it again!!!!! he/she/it looks like all the crabby old librarians & teachers & relatives rolled into one.

  61. Ali-Baba says:

Theresa- here ya go- with freshly muddled mint an’ everything! 🙂

  62. Fird Birfle says:

    hereya go, ma’am!!! 🙂

  63. Fird Birfle says:

(oops; fingers didn’t know what the brain intended to accomplish)

  64. Fird Birfle says:

Theresa– I did a comment and attempted to attach a link w/ image of a mojito and now THAT comment & its attached mojito have ALSO been gobbled up by the Big Green Moderashun Machine. (Sun, approx 1:05 pm E. Coast time)

  65. Fird Birfle says:

I see the disapprovingness from him and agree with you; he has
a POTENT facial expreshe; jowls, eyebrows, frown…..

Howev’s *if I ran the world* [which, admittedly is NOT the case 🙂 ],
I think that ferocious pup would find his best setting in the military (looks like Army brass, to me) ….I can kinda see him assigned to the Military Police (MP’s to peeps who di-unt grown up in a military household) …or maybe with Theo, for initimidating computer hacker Bad Guyz. ….

  66. Fird Birfle says:

Judging from the forensic clues, I would presume that Rhea is probably owned by a cat or by more than one cat. ….. Jus’ sayin’ ….

  67. Fird Birfle says:

I keep an elegant lady’s lace hankie avail at all times, to somewhat counteract Her Majesty’s ….erm….social graces.

It needs laundering several times per week.

  68. Fird Birfle says:

I love the fact that peeps at CO can be relied upon, to know the history of the theremin ….

    *contented sigh*

  69. Fird Birfle says:

    nicely summarized!

  70. Fird Birfle says:

You’re gonna get a house that is new to your life????

*Immediately prays for only GOOD new things to come into the lives of MudBug’s household*

  71. Fird Birfle says:

oooooo oooooo ye’re so right about Cinnamon; I hadn’t realized, until reading your comment, that the inclusion of haughtiness aka hauteur is the KEY POINT.

Maybe Cinnamon was actually a Runway Model in an earlier life, and that would explain the fierceness of her (?) Disdain for Everything in General.

“Your retail store rags are inadequate, boring and don’t cost enough money to hold my attention. Bring me some 0bscenely expensive food, upon which I may snack inattentively.”

  72. Fird Birfle says:

come BACK come BACK….. (cries, echoing into the distance…)

  73. Fird Birfle says:

(would it be at all possible to remove “librarians” from the word “crabby” there?

I know, there certainly *have been* librarians who were crabby.
    But me an’ about 47 others who are happy CO’ers…are libraryish (well really and teachers also). ….and I made myself into [nearly…not 24/7 ] a doormat, to ensure that the vast majority of my clients/ customers went out the door impressed with the material we had been able to locate, gather;
in response to their question; and with a pretty decent level of genuine & pleasant behavior ….

also fwiw — sometimes folks work at city/county facilities such as libraries — who are not book people but who just need to earn $50 here and there to pay for food in the pantry …..sometimes those people have so many stresses & objectives on their mind …they might not be turnin’ cartwheels of joy .

(looks in both directions in an attempt to dodge any incoming rotted fruits/ vegetables or puddin’….)

  74. Fird Birfle says:

ooooooh wow the BGMM is being very merciful in releasing the comments from Mod quickly today.
    [genuine] Thanks!!!!

    *bows in submission*

  75. Fird Birfle says:

Presented in support of your appreciation of Tradition.

[Fair notice: this bit lasts almost 8 min but OH WOW what a wonderful story/ film and group of actors/ actresses and song & dance!!!!!]

  76. Fird Birfle says:

    Aurhora WINS the whole Innernet!!!

  77. Gotta be Pancake. He is so disapproving, yet so adorabuhls. Looks like he has a sock toy, even.

That bunny, however, is cute. He doesn’t look disapproving. No, he’s contemplative. “I am living at the Happy Bunny Farm, but am I truly happy? Hmm. There’s something about this situation I just don’t approve of …”

  78. The cat is by far the most disappoving. I can just see him looking at me now… I’m cringing.

  79. Theresa says:

Ah, just what I needed! Muchas gracias!

  80. Theresa says:

“And most of all, our beloved Rabbit!”

  81. Theresa says:

    Theremin Cat!

  82. Theresa says:

Talk about crabby librarians makes me . . . crabby.

  83. Sammy2121 says:

so agreeeee! the frog is so adorable with his mad face.

  84. Queen of Dork says:

Thanks Nikki! I missed being able to come on here. As a matter of fact, I’m going to be off again as my daughter and her friends are over here at my house. So I’m going to order pizza and we’re going to watch My Cousin Vinny! Yay! 🙂

  85. psychethos says:

The cat gets my “most disapproving” vote. The pup looks more furious than disapproving, the bun looks at best vaguely confused, and the frog is simply not cute enough. Done and done.

  86. That. Puppy. Is. Wrinkly.

  87. What’s a yoot?

  88. Fird Birfle says:

    And Theresa wins the
HOW THA HECK DOES SHE FIND these things Prize for the Month!!!!

  89. Fird Birfle says:

    Are YOU makin’ funna me??????

Also: “Da poah little doah eyed fawn….”
[or words to that effect; I’m goin’ from memory here…]

  90. Queen of Dork says:

He-he! I love that place where she gets ripped of out of $200. I think it’s called Pool and Chicken. Or Chicken and Pool or something like that. I’ll know for sure shortly. 🙂

  91. Queen of Dork says:

OMG! You have to be kidding me! That’s one of my all time favorite ever on the planet movies!!

  92. A. Non! says:

Cute as bunnies may be, breeders don’t deserve to win anything as far as I’m concerned; there are too many animals out there needing homes to breed more of them for profit.

The puppy’s face is great, but puppies don’t look the same forever. Cinnamon gave us many faces of disapproval.

The frog, however, disapproves of this whole process. “Cute Overload, my ‘tocks.” S/He gets my vote.

  93. Theresa says:

For you, Queenie, from Jerome Robbins:

  94. wow, who dropped the nuff bomb in here?

    no votes for you!

  95. Fird Birfle says:

erm, Theresa, while your bunnular adapation of Fiddler on the Roof is ….erm…admirably creative….

(just kidding. Your mind is a marvy thing!!! 🙂 )

  96. Fird Birfle says:

Both. Statements. Are. Fun. And. True.

    William. Shat.ner.

  97. Queen of Dork says:

I have to say this to Theresa…as a dancer and also somebody who met Jerome Robbins, THANK YOU! The video you posted is one of my favorite things EVER!

  98. Theresa says:

    I thought it was . . . . . Michael . . . . . . .Caine. 😛

  99. Theresa says:

    Queenie, was Jerome Robbins scary?

  100. Lorel J says:

Tewtelly, Fird. She was the grand-dame couture. Probably modeled Mary Quant when people actually knew who MQ was. And gave Anna Wintour a run for her money at cocktail parties.

  101. Fird Birfle says:

Way-uhl, they wuz BOF in “Miss Congeniality”!!!!

  102. Fird Birfle says:

    *begins plucking the gee-tar strings,
for the song “Back in the Saddle, Agin”. 🙂

  103. songbirdnurse says:

Aaaand the winner for today’s musical theatre reference goes to….*drumroll* F.B.!!!! *mass applause* p.s. I played Hodel in FOTR, ohhh about 15 years ago (yes, Siberia is cold and no, the boy wasn’t worth it)

  104. songbirdnurse says:

First timer here in moderation lounge *pulls up a stool* Hi there, my name is songbird…umm, I’m a nurse and I love all things cute. C.O. group (in unison): “Hiiii songbird”….

  105. MsMolly says:
  106. hi songbird! can you tell us what brought you here today?

  107. Fird Birfle says:

  108. Bebeh Bunneh (aka Sketchy) was only 4 weeks old in this picture…had not learned enough disapproval yet but that little mouf sure does look like a good start! 😉

  109. Fird Birfle says:

*does very formal curtsey/bow down to stage, similar to thees one*

  110. Fird Birfle says:

    I’m voting OTHER.

C’mon, peeps. We want a bun. We want Disapproving, yes??

YA JIST CANNAE GET more disapproving — or at least more world-weary —
than (the Second after the Original) Disapproving Bun!!!!!

  111. Queen of Dork says:

No. He was really, really nice. 🙂

  112. #1 looks kind of startled (bunny in the headlights?), and #3 looks more concerned and thoughtful than disapproving (it’s ok mr. froggie; i won’t go out in the rain without my umbrella!). it’s close betwee #2 and #4, but i think #2 has it.

  113. I felt my insides turn to ice when that cat looked at me.

  114. Sorry to all librarians!!!!! I now know many nice ones, but I was scarred & scared as a child by Mrs Snaith……. skinny, scarey, severe —- Thank goodness she was only the school librarian, & I still had the town library, & zillionz of books at home….

  115. Ok, forgive me if someone beat me to it, because I don’t have time to read all the comments.

But you missed one SERIOUSLY overlooked Face of Disapproval: the Sea Turtle. Seriously, they are the grumpy old grandpas of the animal kingdom. You take one look at their adorable faces and can just HEAR them yelling, “Get off my lawn, you whippersnappers! Daggum kids.”

    Here, look! I’ll prove it!

However, with no sea turtles to vote for, I choose Pancake the pup.

  116. Fird Birfle says:

    I’ve ABSO-lutely seen some grumpusses,
on eerie, creepy power-trips, employed at gub’ment places like libraries, so unfortunately it did/ can and does happen at times.

I always feel so tender, and I always wish that I had a FixIt Button, when a Bad Apple causes a child or adult, to think of libraries as Scary Places; since there are such vast history or recreational stuff to find, if a library is run with an enjoyable vibe.

It’s really regrettable that skinny, scarey, severe Mrs. Snaith evidently didn’t enjoy sharing those aspects.

I’m glad that you have, since,
experienced some positive moments of Librariology!!!

“library” also = “media center”, “information/ research center”, etc.

  117. Alexandra says:
  118. It HAS to be the frog, its the only one who looks disapproving! Bunny just looks normal, dog looks evil, cat looks angry… but the froggy! So disapproving!

  119. I think the pup looks like Edward G. Robinson.

  120. Ooh! I finally realized what the kitty reminds me of: that famous picture of Winston Churchill, where he’s glaring into the camera (because, it turns out, the photographer just snatched his cigar away).

  121. kodalai says:

Although this may be the first time I’ve seen the word ‘breeders’ used with technical accuracy rather than as a childfree slur!

  122. kodalai says:

    Holy cow, you’re right!!

  123. kodalai says:

Sorry, replied to the wrong comment: Holy cow you’re right!!! Disapproval aplenty!

  124. Right? I always feel as though I should somehow be ashamed of something. 🙂 I luff sea turtles.

  125. The cat looks like the one sitting on the archvillain’s lap in the James Bond movie.

I’m a very friendly and nice school librarian!
