OMG a hoomin. On CO! ack!! :D (I assume the “Red Five” is some sci-fi reference I don’t get, but that’s ok. Love the photos anyhoo!)

  5. Guinea Peeg Lover says:

  8. kibblenibble says:

“Red Panda Comin’ To Get You” was my first CO experience. It’s been love ever since. :-)

  9. skippymom says:

The red panda looks just like my dearly beloved late library school professor Allen Smith. I miss him terribly, but seeing a cute animal who reminds me of him is kind of fun.

    • Fird Birfle says:

      WHICH reminds ME,..
of my own fave “eccentric and slightly out-of-touch” college professor.

Graduate-level coursework, fer shur. It was a course providing early
“Ye olde origins of Frenche” course (which ends up being about a time when French/ Gallic was just barely trying to become an unique offshoot from Latin.
Oddly enough, I had managed to specialize in two or three languages, without ever taking the basic grammar series for Latin; although I had a pretty good foundation of the vocab. which has gotten into standardized tests.
Anyhow, this guy looked and spoke PRECISELY like the images from the classic book Le Petit prince/ The Little Prince by A. de Saint-Exupery.
Ancient-looking tiny gold-rimmed oval glasses, dissheveled, slightly out-of-focus at all times but adorable.

DARN my research is inadequate to get images of the Professor via Google or Yahoo Images; I can find plenty of lovely images of Le Petit Prince, though.

      *sigh*

At Simmons? He was my adviser, although I never took a class with him.
      Small world, eh?

      • skippymom says:

Oh, I’m so excited to meet someone here who knew him! Wasn’t he a god among men? I wish he’d been my adviser!

        • Bettymouse says:

I’m sorry to say I didn’t really know him that well. I met him when I first started, then just put my head down and plowed through the program as fast as possible. Didn’t actually get any further advising.
I do know lots of people who thought his reference class was the best class ever. I’m glad you enjoyed it, too!
          Are you still in Mass.?

        • Bettymouse says:

Strangely, there’s no “reply” button under your last message.
          : ^(
Anyhoo, I work at one of the libraries at Haahvahd. I’m a reference liberryan.

          • skippymom says:

Which library? I went to Hahvad undergraduate and worked in the Morse Music Library in Hilles for a couple of years after graduating.

        • Bettymouse says:

I work at the Botany Libraries, over on Divinity Ave.

I also got my undergrad degree here, but through the Extension School, so our paths probably didn’t cross.

          RIP, Hilles Library. : ^(

I have a bad feeling about this

    “Do a barrel roll!”

  13. “May the Fuzz be with you”

  14. Fird Birfle says:

PS: Is it within the Realm of Possibility, for a Red Panda to have a grouchy expression, or do ALL of them smile in a friendly manner, 24/7 ????

  15. doubter says:

    That’s not a robin.

    • HP says:

This! [boldly brandishes alternate bird] Is a robin!

      • warrior rabbit says:

Yesterday I commented on this, admiring your reference to Crocodile Dundee. But it never appeared. I gave it a while in case I was in moderation. Hmm.

Anyhow, I appreciated the lulz. :)

    • Carny Asada says:

DEFINITELY not a robin. It’s an American Bluebird.

  16. martha in mobile says:

Red Leader, that’s a male bluebird. Copy.

(Also, does anyone know why there was a NORTH tower on the Death Star? I mean, which way is north in space?)

    • ralfast says:

Puts on Geek’OVision 9000 Glasses on:

“Ahem, since the Death Star was a sphere, it also had poles, so anything on it’s surface could be orientated to it’s poles, hence North or South.”
      :D

  17. ElishaB. says:

Whew wee….gotta love me some Star Wars references….great sequence NTMTOM!!
It was 1977, and I was standing in line with my mom waiting to see one of the most influential movies in my life………..

    • Wend says:

I don’t think any of us knew how much that movie was going to change our world.

      • victoreia says:

My mother swears she came out of the theater with a totally different kid, who just happened to look like the one she went in with…..(being said kid, I just nod and look mysterious.)

  18. Kristina says:

It’s a European robin, not a bluebird. Similar, though.

  19. bob drummond says:

I just love all you guys !!… and anything STAR WARS also.

  20. Kar says:

The force is strong with this one…

  21. Martha in Washington says:

So Mike…did you just wake up this morning and think “I should do a Star Wars reference post today with all the red animal pictures”? Just trying to figure out how your brain works and why mine doesn’t work that way.

    BTW…Mark Hamill is HOT!

    • Martha in Washington says:

Am I in the Mod Lounge for questioning Mike? *grabs a soda, a bowl of popcorn and the DVD remote, hits play, cue John Williams music*

    • Not That Mike The Other Mike says:

As much as I would like to pretend this was my idea, it’s based on a thread I saw on a message board, which in turn may have been inspired by the “Family Guy” scene further down this page.

  22. arielflight says:

Red Five is aka Cillian Murphy.

    • Gentle says:

Interestingly enough, Cillian Murphy was exactly 1 year old to the day when the film from which that still was taken debuted. Mark Hamill does bear a striking resemblance to him in that photo, though.

  23. doylecat says:

Credits: Star Wars -George Lucas. “It’ll be just like shooting whomp rats back home!” (ok, not accurate, but you still get it.)

    P.S- “It’s a trap!”

  24. Walking E says:

Quick – somebody find a red pig to play the part of “Porkins”!

  25. Polly says:

Sorry, US types, but UK robins are definitely cuter than American ones. To be fair, it’s grey and miserable most of the time, so we deserve a bit of bright, cheery cuteness.
