Mewish Mother says, “Qvit your kvetching. When you’re all grown up I’ll still be giving you a bath and that’s not good enough for you? Feh!”

Know any great kitties? Thank a Mom and Whitley L.

  1. Happy Mother’s Day! >^.^<

  2. Guinea Peeg Lover says:

Happie Mother’s dai! I got my mom a fountain. Don’t tell her!

  3. Queen of Dork says:

AND I’ll be helping you with the homework you bring home from Kitty Cat Academy For Boys and Girls (Home of the Razor Claws!)

Happy Mother’s Day, you fabulous peeps! Here are some flowers:

  4. Those kitty ears are killing me a little bit. But happy Mother’s Day, all!

  5. My mom’s birthday is the week before Mother’s Day, so it kind of becomes an extended festival. 😛

  6. I know, right???

  7. PS: So Happy B-b-b-birthday and Mother’s Day, you thing from another world, you!

  8. kibblenibble says:

Isn’t it rare to find a female marmie? (Mommie-Marmie, hmmm. If I were 260O I could probably do something clever with that.) It seems to me I learned about most orange cats being male right here on CO. Happy Marmies’ day!

  9. Queen of Dork says:

Happy Birthday and Mother’s Day to Theresa’s mom! I’ll bet she did have to be from another world in order to put up with your dad’s funny as heck shenanigans! My daughter, The Princess of Dork just posted on my facebook page wishing me a happy mom’s day and saying that she “loves my crazy ass” How lovely! I know a lot of people would probably not approve of such a sentiment as it’s expressed in somewhat a crass manner, but I told her I love her crazy ass right back. And with that said, I shall go and fluff the pillows on the couch in the Moderation Lounge because I have a feeling I have some time to spend in there. *grabs Teddy bear and some snacks and a blanket and knocks on the door to the Moderation Lounge to be let in*

  10. Actually there are orange female cats, I have one who looks a lot like the one in the picture except her white socks are a bit longer 🙂

  11. Lol, mewish mother. Thats a good one

  12. Fird Birfle says:

At least this marmie isn’t sitting home, alone,
in the dark, darning socks by candlelight!!!!

  13. arachnophile says:

They are rare and because of that their kittens almost always have unique and interesting coloring. Notice that several of her youngin’s have got dusky-apricote coats. /purrrrr

I’ve always been in love with marmies but I’ve only ever had boys. When ever I see a female marmie though, I am intrieged. I wouldn’t encourage people to let their cats breed for just that reason or anything but they are genetically interesting. 🙂

  14. Fird Birfle says:

Th., does yer MOM give spitbaths, as well???

  15. Happy Mother’s Day one and all!!!

  16. warrior rabbit says:

Awww. They look like weird-colored caterpillars.

Also, CO missed the boat on Cinco de Meowo. Here were some vids posted elsewhere on the web.

  17. warrior rabbit says:

  18. That’s a very long kitterpillar second from left!

  19. took me a sec to realize you were talking about the original pic and not these vids.

eny-hu, yes, he looks like the center on the team. until you see his sibbles’ tocks under momser’s arm. all the light ones are elongated. the dark one may just be folded up under her leg, too.

  20. kibblenibble says:

Just look at mom kitteh’s eyes, people!

  21. My cousins had a fancy-shmancy, purebred American shorthair orange tabby lady from a breeder and everything. She was a gorgeous cat, who hated everyone xcept one of my cousins. She was also a killing machine– every morning the yard would be littered with the bodies of moles and voles. 😯

  22. I have a female marmie and she’ll be 13 yrs old this week. 🙂

  23. Thank You Warrior Rabbit !!! Starting next year my gang has a new tradition !
The Meow Mix pinata !!! YEA !!!!!

  24. who me excited ? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  25. Actually, they were both from other worlds. 😉

  26. PS: Happy, Happy Mother’s Day, Queenie!
Here are some flowers for you!

  27. No, but I bet this one does. Lots of them.

  28. RosiePosie says:

Most full marmies are indeed males since the gee for the red color is linked to the male chromosone (as I recall). But it’s not terribly rare to have a marmie girl. What rarer is a tortie or calico male.

I fostered a marmie girl once, who promptly had six kittens in my closet; all marmie or cream colored.

  29. Not so rare: female marmies with some or a lot of white on their bodies– throats, paws, bellies. Pretty rare: completely marmie marmies. Those are mostly boys.

  30. Queen of Dork says:

Oh, how beautiful! Thank you! I wonder what mountain range that is.

  31. Happy Mothers day to all mommies.

  32. Queen of Dork says:

He-he! Have any of you ever kind of messed with your cat a little bit? I just did that with mine. He just came into the livingroom while I was sitting there and plopped himself down on the floor by my feet. So I kept touching his tail with my toes. He just kept whipping his tail away until he got really fed up with me. then he lifted up his head, looked over his shoulder and gave me the meanest ever look! He was all, “Knock it off, Food Lady!” It was so funny. Serves him right. That’s what he gets for trying to trip me every morning when I first wake up and I’m still sleepy and can’t see. Hahahahaha! (I feel sort of like maybe I’d better sleep with one eye open tonight, though).

  33. GeorgiaGirl says:

Can’t say for certain, but it’s sure reminiscent of the Mt. Cook region of New Zealand. Awesome scenery at every turn there. At least there was when I visited in 1985; reckon it’s all still there…

  34. Of course I mess with him. I have to mess with him. He knows it’s part of the deal. I also sit on him a lot (not with all my weight, nuffers 😛 ) because Lord knows he thinks he can sit on me whenever he wants, and he’s not a featherweight. 😛

  35. Oh crap. Dealing out the solitaire cards.

  36. I’m guessing Rockies or Cascades.

  37. It is a fabulous photo of the fabulous Grand Tetons.

  38. Rachael says:

You are brave, if not entirely sane. 🙂

  39. Fird Birfle says:

    heh???? no comprende zees.

  40. Fird Birfle says:

    Sane?? Whazzat??????

  41. Fird Birfle says:

    YAY for you both!!

  42. Mary (the first) says:

    Yes, isn’t she blissful! Awwww

  43. Mary (the first) says:

I mess with my cat(s) more than a little bit. Not so much now that she’s elderly but teasing cats (gently) is too much fun. Now the worst I do is pretend to be asleep when she comes in and tries to get under the covers with me. She pat-pat-pats at the edge of the covers and gets pretty annoyed if I ignore her. hahaha

  44. Queen of Dork says:

🙂 I sort of felt like I could be subjected to shredding at any moment. But he was too sleepy to do anything other than give me a really, really dirty look. Right now, he’s asleep on a blanket and looking SO adorable! Really, I love this cat so much! I so fall in love with cats who pick me to live with. I just LOVE him. 🙂

  45. Cannot remember the last time we had teenay-weenay kittunz around our house. Been years! I miss that!

  46. Queen of Dork says:

Oh Marie, could you maybe get one? Maybe there are some at your local shelter who need to live in your loving home? (hint-hint. adopting animals from shelters is always a good thing to do and you sound so sweet).

  47. I’ve always messed in a kind of death-wish way with my guys– you know, hiding behind something and popping my head out repeatedly until the cat just LAUNCHES straight at my face. I don’t know why I do this except that the sight of a wackadoodle-eyed kitzel coming straight at my face is so freaking funny. 😀

  48. In the mod lounge. Which really sounds like it should have bucket chairs and cage dancers in go-go boots.

  49. ashagato says:

asha’s momma was a wee little marmie-girl who had two calico kits!

  50. It would be so funny if the Great Tit were native to the Grand Tetons, but alas, it is not.

  51. Queen of Dork says:

That’s so funny, Theresa! The other day, Albert was staring with amazing intensity at something in my closet. I was starting to get pretty worried. I was like, “What?! What the heck is in there?! ” But then he launched STRAIGHT UP FROM A SITTING AND STARING POSITION TO A RRRRAAAARRHHH! IN THE AIR POSITION. He was just after the clothes hanging in there. He grabbed onto a winter coat hanging in there. My face looked like a cartoon character with a big blacked out O for a mouth. Then, Albert, the coat and several hangers all came crashing down onto the closet floor. This was all before 5:00 am. This is ths sort of thing I deal with regarding this dang cat. (sheeeeesh)

  52. Emmberrann says:

Oy, and just because it’s Mother’s Day, and about the next four-five weeks, I know I can expect a call from each of you kids. About every half-hour or so. And wipe your faces, or I’ll have to! That’s all right, I’ll have to anyway.

  53. Lucy's mommeh says:

See-I told my hubby Marmies were usually boys. Didn’t beleve me. Meh.

  54. T.U.M. says:

Mommy reds always tug extra hard at my heartstrings.

  55. I’m going to imagine this is my cat Colby’s mom- he was from a litter of 3 marmie boys and one tortie girl!

  56. Oh, I do that with Zuzu all the time! I love watching his pupils go from slits to giant circles, and if I duck behind something just enough, he peers over with his ears back, trying to be sneaky but just looking insane… and then he attacks me. It’s worth it.

  57. The second kitten from the left looks like a two-headed, Push-Me-Pull-You cat!

Yes, the main genes for orange and black coat colors are both on the X chromosome, which is why male calico cats are generally sterile (because they have two Xs *and* a Y).

  58. AWW 😀 What cute babies 😀 Their mom looks so pretty 😀

  59. My cat, Badger, turned 13 on May 7th 🙂 She will nibble a little at the medicated cat food I give her and still drinks a bit more water than usual, but she will eat from the other dry cat food and seems ok 😀

  60. You must have a lot of self-control, RosiePosie, to just foster that kitty and her six babies 😀 I would of adopted that mother cat (have her fixed once the kittens are weaned) and her six babies (have them fixed once they are old enough) 😀

  61. aww so they have kitty-klinefelter’s syndrome (kind of?)

  62. I have a female marmie (or “ginger” we call them here in Europe) too, my little Ruby! When I adopted her she was there with not one but two ginger coloured *sisters*!

The reason why ginger cats are mostly male is because the orange fur colour gene is linked to the male sex gene, but that is not exclusively so and orange females may be unusual, but not that rare actually.

  63. What a beautiful Marmie Mum and kittens! 🙂 Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

  64. As for ginger females being rare…. not that rare! This is a ginger mum with her two boy kittens who belong to a friend of mine. And the dad is extremely handsome too (see last pic in post).

  65. The local feral colony in the town where I grew up was almost exclusively orange (lots of inbreeding with the head tom, who was a Heathcliff clone). So, mama marmies always seemed really common to me. Every spring you’d see them in the tall grass with their new litters, looking like wild tiger lilies.

  66. My favorite thing to do is sneak up behind him when he’s intently bathing and stare at him. It startles him and he yowls at me, very annoyed. It also drives him crazy when he knows I’m hiding just around the corner waiting to grab him or jump out at him. I think it’s only fair, given that I have to get up and feed him at 5:30 on Saturday mornings, and live with inordinate amounts of grey cat hair coating everything in my house.

  67. On a different topic, I call Matchink! on how her eyes reflect the blue of the towel. Beautiful mama. Beautiful babies.

  68. @ Barbarella; That cat family is gorgeous!

  69. @ Deb: Thanks. The dad (Khan) is the most gorgeous one, with his flamepoint looks, the blue eyes and bushy tail. The kittens are about 3 months now so I better get another photo session with them soon before they´re too big. 🙂

  70. Awww bless them all! So much orange! 😀

  71. Or a clouder of Kitten commedians and those fancy drinks with Umbrellas at the very least

  72. Noelegy says:

The only female marmie I personally have known turned right around and had a marmie boy kitten. 🙂 One, only one.

  73. Noelegy says:

So much pretty in one picture!

  74. Noelegy says:

Oh yes, we know the wackadoodle eyes in our household, very well we knows ’em.

This morning I was getting dressed and hubby was in the bedroom watching Philo and Maggie sparring. Philo has put on a little chunk lately, but I doubt he weighs more than 8-9 lbs. Maggie is a little spitfire and at 7 months weighs maybe 3-4 lbs. All of a sudden my hubby started laughing hysterically.

I had to ask what happened. He said that Maggie jumped into the air and “flung her little body” at Philo (that’s how he put it) and sort of body-slammed him against the wall. Hubby couldn’t stop laughing.

  75. Noelegy says:

Philo pats my nose if I ignore him.

  76. Out of my 3 “terrors”, only Lugosi (not a marmie, but a 6kg classic tabby) does that, i.e. makes me get out of bed in the morning. But he doesn´t pat. He *licks* my face or hair. When that doesn´t work, he *claws* at the bed covers! 🙂

  77. RosiePosie says:

Not so much amazing self control as already having five cats at the time. 😉

I got mom and all of the babies fixed once the kittens were eight weeks old. (Thank god for PAWS Chicago and their low-cost spay/neuter program.) Then they all went to forever homes.

Mom was named Marigold. The kittens were Kyoko (red female), Firefly (cream male), Serenity (cream female), Jabberwocky (cream and white male), Jack Sparrow (cream and white male), and Macavity (red female).

  78. Gotta ask… was it a drinking fountain?

  79. Mom's Favorite says:

Yes this is late but I have cats thanks to my Mom, The Best Mom Evah. Happy Mother’s Day, Mom! I love ya!

  80. michelle b adams says:

Please to send momma marmiefostercat and her sixpack. i promise to get the ‘making biscuits’ companion model (as recently featured right here on CO) so we can all have
‘biscuits’ and ‘marmalade/jam’ every single day!!!!!!!! really, we knead it!!!!

  81. michelle b adams says:

looking like wild tiger lilies. runs outside…….looks around hopefully……..sigh, only a dogwood tree in sight. grabs keys and heads to local nursery….

  82. michelle b adams says:

looking like wild tiger lilies!!! love that imagery!. runs outside…….looks around hopefully……..sigh, only a dogwood tree in sight. grabs keys and heads to local nursery….

  83. Emmberrann says:

PS to Blair: “Momser” is not a nice word in Yiddish…. It means being born to unwed parents, and the connotation is really, really nasty, like when you call someone a “SOB” not meaning he was born to a doggie-mama.

  84. Emmberrann says:

The late “Mr. Picky” was my feline alarm clock. At just about 5 a.m., just about every day, he would poke at my shoulder (*poke, poke, poke*) until I would wake up and feed him breakfast. Of course, after a post-breakfast bath (both spit and sun, if sun was available), he would go back to bed, and I’d have to get up and go to work (if I was working). I miss my Picky-boy every day!

  85. Fird Birfle says:

    don’t knock dogwoods, though.

Been Jonesin’ for ’em since about 1979 when our family relocated from DC to Jax. Every Sunday in the Proverbial Drive from the House to Church, we passed a property where somebody had planted and grafted together two lovely healthy trunks of dogwood to become merged. One side pink, the other side white.

  86. Fird Birfle says:

    “Ah, so-deska!!!” 🙂

  87. AWW 😀 Thank you for telling me those kitties’ names, RosiePosie 😀 I am glad to hear that they all went to loving forever homes as well 😀
