Hardcore Fetch

Sure, any dog can fetch a ball, but it takes mad skills to catch a snowball.

Can we put this sport in the next Winter Olympics?

  4. corianne says:

Miss Freda seems to be hovering several inches above the snow. I wonder if she can teach me that trick–it’d save on wear and tear of winter shoes…

    That face! The determination!

Epic photo! It looks like the snowball caught her! Will her jaw ever be the same again?

The Hoverbasset 2000 also assists in snowball removal. Note: Your Hoverbasset 2000 may “get all hyper” during snowball removal, fetching and snowball relocation.

      “snowball relocation” = *snerk*

    • Birdcage says:

Call now and we’ll send you a second HoverBasset 2000 absolutely free (just pay snorgling and handling).

What’s the story with her earsies, though? They look.. weird.. and her eyes.. eek!

    • Stressfactor says:

Bassett hounds moving at high speeds tend to…. distort. Think of it as a visual dopplar effect.

Cute Bassett. I didn’t know they could get “all hyper”. I always figured they were pretty chill.

I had a Basset. She would occasionally get excited when I popped popcorn. Otherwise, she would consider barking, but would have to nap first while she debated it.

        • Fird Birfle says:

          *giggle*

(“…nap first while she debated it…”)

When my little brother got married 11 years ago, he and his fiance had a Bassett hound named Misty. They got married in her parents’ yard, and Misty led the wedding procession, walking down the “aisle” with her flowered collar. Then, while the wedding was going on, Misty went off to one side and proceeded to dig up a mole and play with it. :)

I mention this because this was the only occasion that I ever saw Misty do anything but nap.

          • Scout C says:

Well, it WAS a festive occasion, after all!

          • Rachael says:

This is why there should be at least one dog at every wedding. What a riot! :)

          • Noelegy says:

Rachael, several years ago I attended a very casual wedding that was held in an old brick grocery store building that had been converted to a loft townhouse. It was in the summer, and we were seated in chairs on either side of the “aisle” as the proceedings proceeded. Due to the warmth of the day, the front door of the building was open. A cat wandered into the building and very calmly plopped itself down in the middle of the aisle and began to wash. :)

Visual Doppler effect: Miss Freda precedes herself.

    • AuntieBellum says:

I think the windspeed has turned them inside out. LOL!

    Oh how I love bassets.
They really are the best dogs – as long as you don’t mind being blatantly ignored…

  19. Noelegy says:

What an adorable freckled ginger girl!

  20. Espilonarge says:

That’s not a snowball, it’s just the poor hounds drool that froze in a giant gooba. XD

  21. Eva-pink! says:

Isn’t that the same basset that was in “Release the dweebs”.Wasn’t it?He’s a good picture pup!So photographic… :-]

  25. MeanGirl says:

Ugh, stop trying to make “fetch” happen.

  26. MommaMackie says:

But just looking at the happy pupper and her happy snowball gives some of us Brain Freeze! I’ll bet the pupper likes to gobble down ice cream also.

  27. Kit says:

He’s so happy – he’s floating on air!

  28. Kim says:

Cracked me up – very much like my beagle who is OBSESSED with fetching (anyone who thinks hounds are averse to fetching or high levels of activity is so wrong) and gets The Crazy Eyes when he’s all intense and running with the ball. This pic makes me so happy.

  29. pinkmariposas says:

love me some wonky-eyed bassets! So CUTE …apology for yelling…
so cute with all that action, the eyes, the ears and the frozen mouf!
doggie looks like she is having fun. good action shot.
