In one stroke, I will pet them all!

According to Sender-Inner LalaLaurie, the ‘one-stroke pet’ set off a chain-reaction of purrs. They stirred and stretched then assumed their positions and drifted off again.

Don’t Forget! The Itty Bitty Kitty Committee is always on the hunt for good people in the Seattle/Tacoma area to adopt foster kittles.

  8. You can’t pick just one!! They are all just SOOOO cute!! I bet they smell good too!

  9. Retired Hippie says:

ah, the lovely Medley family. Check out the itty bitty kitty committee site…one of the tabbies (Freddie Jean) has an affinity for her brother Kirby’s ear. In this pic, Freddie Jean is claiming ownership to her sister (its either Maxine or Beezus, I’m not sure which) . Apparently this little girl needs a security blanket when she naps. 😉

  10. I wanna pet them just enough to make them straayyyyche…and curl their lil toesies….and go back to sleep.
    Cuz when they wake up……..

  11. Roll call!

    Sweetie! (heaw!)
    Tweetie! (mew!)

  16. “One Stroke to Pet Them All”

LOTR-esque version of the title 😉

  17. awwww…makes me wish my kitties were little a fuzzy again! I miss them being babies! SO CUTE! My head might explode…

  18. Calliope says:

Figure 1 – An illustration of the mathematical concept of concatenation.

  19. Hah! The little white boy in the middle (next to Kirby, the orangey guy) is named Peter! So “Peetie” fits right in on the roll call!

  20. victoreia says:

    Okay, I’ll be quiet now….

  21. o no he/ she/ it DI-unt!!! says:

    *Here’s a widdwe kitten, victoreia!! 🙂 *

  22. Oh the little hug going on with the two end kitties on the left! So sweet.

  23. sunnylessmum says:

You can’t huff just one! 🙂

  24. sabrina rose says:

Wouldn’t it be great fun to adopt all six and let them grow old with you? I did that once – took in a pregnant cat and kept her and her babies. The last kitty died at 17 a few years ago. They were a charming addition to my human family. We all had many happy times together! I owned a golden retriever also who was very loving and patient with the playful kittens. Good times and happy memories.

  25. *bip*

  26. I love the ittehbittehkitteh committee. Thank you for all the great work you do. Love your pics.

  27. Lily Blue says:

    Ahhhhhhhhhh I heart you!

  28. fish eye no miko says:

  34. So busy with the bleen business you forgot your silent “e”, eh?

  35. 260Oakley says:

Strum-pet: when you run your fingers rapidly over six cat guts.

  36. Calamity Jane says:

I want to go to there!

  37. ashagato says:

“a chain reaction of purrs” is by far my favorite phrase of the week….

  38. I am SCANDALIZED. 😯

  39. 260Oakley says:

…and when one cleans up under your chair, that’s called a crumb-pet.

  40. I am SANITIZED.

  41. 😉

  42. One stroke to pet them all,
    One camera to find them.
    One bed to gather them
And in the sunbeam blind them.

  43. Lol!
I admire your restraint at not capitalising the cat in conCAT.
Also illustrates the persistence of purrrsion.

  44. 🙂 Cuteness… Hmmm Can I claim auto correct issues???. LOL how about typing too fast at work? Okay okay i know I am a bad speller.

  45. Laurie’s photography at is so beautiful. Always natural light and always soft, lovely and tender. If you haven’t been to her website, don’t miss it. And she has a wonderful craft blog — so darned talented — and a book coming out !! Oh, and she’s saved many, many kitties. She and CO’s Meg are big heroes of mine. Add in Inhae of and you have my trio of fave websites.

(Funny story, I actually am a big brother.)

  47. AWW 😀 That is such a nice story, sabrina rose (nice name) 😀 What were all those kitties names?

  48. I agree, mctwin 😀 I would adopt all six kitties 😀

  49. Kittens resting in the sun have such a nice toasty smell to them. All you need to do is put your face right in the middle of the cluster and inhale deeply. I miss having cats around.

  50. sabrina rose says:

I gave them “food” names! Yum Yum (the mom cat, she was the bestest mother to those kittens), Mignon (the only boy), Suzette, and Creampuff.

  51. sabrina rose says:

Verrry cute! I wish I possessed a quick and clever wit!!

  52. Martha in Washington says:

Damnit Meg, now you have me seriously considering adopting another kittie. And yes, I’m in the “Seattle/Tacoma area”.

  53. Would so love to see video of petting/stretching/resettling action!

  54. This is just the start of a full size bed cover.

  55. i feel faint.

    can’t…..handle…..the qte……

    *passes out*

  56. That’s why even though we already had two I just couldn’t get rid of momma kitty’s litter of five . Besides , what’s the point of being an adult if you can’t just once in your life keep the whole litter?

  57. Cambridge Rat Mom says:

Agreed. IBKC is one of the best sites out there. Beautiful pics and wonderful narrative.

  58. “there were 6 in the bed and the little one said, “roll over, roll over”…

there were 5 in the bed and the little one said, “roll over, roll over”

I would love to adopt ALL of the babies who are SO tie tie, but am in Rhode Island so the logistics just don’t work this time…have fostered and kept other kitties ’cause once you meet them, you MUST keep them!

  59. love the way you think – happy kitties!

  60. so true…and the top of a kitty’s head smells better than perfume~!

  61. GingerBean says:

This makes me happy on a deeply geeky level 🙂

  62. Per the blog, they laid down like that to nap on their own because there was a sunbeam there… Omg.

  63. “kittles”? was that intentional? because that’s adorable.

  64. o no he/ she/ it DI-unt!!! says:

Every time I watch something on Animal Planet about a Family that Fosters somebody, I realize that I couldn’t handle being a Foster Parent and watching them find a Forever Home that isn’t MINE MINE MINE (picture Daffy Duck here)

  67. Itty Bitty Kitty Committee is one of my Internet “palate cleanser” sites. When I’m stressed or have read too much bad news (I frequent a lot of political sites), I go there, or here, and get my kitteh fix. Aaaaaaaaah.

I don’t know what it is about the face of a sleeping kitten that just does me in every time. I don’t even put up a struggle. It just embodies safe/happy/warm/comfy/content/shnoooz.

And let me just add that the kitties who matriculate from IBKC must be some very lucky and happy kitties indeed!

  68. Another thing I love about IBKC: Laurie has a seriously lovely house and very pretty furnishings/carpets/settings for kitteh photography. It’s almost as though (gasp) the whole house is engineered to be a lovely environment for kittehs to play, grow, gambol, sleep, eat, wash, and get their Butterbean socializin’.

(You’d almost think she planned it)

  69. Snorgle the rainbow.

  70. We introduced our two youngest kittehs to turkey bacon a week or so ago. They didn’t so much seem to want to eat it as they wanted to rub all over our hands and get the scent all over them! Our two youngest, Philo and Maggie, are buds, so they were scenting the bacon magic on each other for hours after that. Much nuzzling ensued.

  71. SnowyLeop says:

Me too! That is *definitely* one of the advantages of being an adult 🙂

  72. Me three! er, four?

  73. Like trailing your fingers across the piano keys – traddddddding!

  74. oh theo, LOL!!!!!!!

  75. ha ha ha! This might be what that phrase was really made for.

  76. Pam Sinclair says:

I would LOVE to see the “6-cat pat” as a video!

  77. o no he/ she/ it DI-unt!!! says:

Say it with me, Troops: “Endorphins”!!!

    or see the following:

    — The benefits —

When people touch an animal, endorphins in the brain are released. Endorphins are chemicals [in the brain, which] relieve pain. Simple acts such as smiling or laughing release endorphins. Petting an animal releases these endorphins, and petting a dog usually leads to a smile. Dogs also offer comfort and non-judgmental love.
Studies have proven that even a short time with a dog decreases levels of anxiety and loneliness.

    *The More You Know*

  78. I would like to see a world record of longest line of sleeping kitties followed by the longest one-stroke pet of said kitties.

  80. starling says:

    African or European?

  81. 😆 What cute names you gave them 😆 What colors were those kitties, sabrina rose 😀

  82. If you are to give a kitty a forever home, Martha in Washington 😀 I say GO FOR IT, GIRL 😀

  83. I meant “if you are “able” to”

  84. Annie2341 says:

Oh kitties so cute when they are babies. Had to have my Cat (itch) put to sleep this morning and I really thought I wouldn’t be able to come on here for like 6mths but strangely it’s helping

  85. Hear, hear! I check the IBKC site regularly, but I am glad to see them get a new post here. Great photos–I am in awe of Laurie’s mad photography and kitten-wrangling skills.

  86. Lewis n' Clark says:

So sorry, Annie 2341. It’s always hard to lose a family member. I hope you know that you are among friends.

  87. AWW 😥 I am so sorry to hear that, Annie2341 😥 (ONE BIG CYBER HUG)

  88. baby birdie says:

    Nom the rainbow.

  89. There are so many wonderful things about this photo, but I think my favorite part is the little “arm” of the tabby on the far left (Maxine) over the next kitten (Freddie Jean). That is just so adorable.

And Annie 2341, my condolences to you, too. : (

  90. Queen of Dork says:

Oh my goodness! Oodles and oodles of skoodle boodles! (The scientific term for a litter of kittens).

Annie: Hang in there. I’m so sorry to hear about that. It’s quite painful. I’m hugging you!
