The Survivor

Sender-Inner Justin R. says that cat “Tricky” had a very difficult birth where all kittens died except…

this one.

  1. want

  2. if it turns out to be a boy you should name it Rupert.. the BEST Survivor EVER

  3. KittyMarthaPoo says:

    Aw, poor Tricky! 😦

The little survivor should be given a special name. Anyone have any ideas?

  4. Oh, wow. Welcome to the world, little survivor. You rock. ❤

  5. Solo

  6. she’s one proud mama!!

  7. God bless them! Hope they have a long happy life
Name maybe Ali like the boxer … works for boy or girl

  8. It’s Tricky!

  9. Princess of Insolence says:

Brilliant! A great big name for a tiny little fighter.

  10. Little miracle kitten – so sweet!!! I’m sure she will be even more spoiled than usual (if that’s even possible)

  11. Aww….that’s a heartbreaker. Good luck to Tricky and momma. You are beautiful and blessed.

  12. Kitty doesn’t get a name, not until it’s earned. Surviving the litter-mates is merely the first step.

Kzin don’t give names that easily.

  13. Tricky Woo

  14. What a pretty momma cat! Such beautiful eyes…

  15. Name it “Lucky” like in 101 Dalmatians because he almost died too. 🙂

  16. Kitchenwitch says:

    They are both so beautiful!

  17. I had a lovebird named Tricky Woo (named after the obvious). But since she was a Peach-faced Lovebird she became Tricky-Lee Wooster, Georgia Peach.

  18. That sounds like more of a Pekingese name, dontcha’ think? 😉

  19. OK, how about Tricky Whoop Ass then, since the kitteh is obviously a fighter?

  20. TrixandSam says:

Don’t make me pull out a cat of whoop ass on you…..

  21. TrixandSam says:

This turned me into a big ol’ pile of teary mush. Wah for the bebehs that didn’t make it but Hooray for the little munchkitteh that did.

  22. Awww! :(( Where’s the “Cute or Sad” tag? This definitely needs it! Poor baby Trick! Poor Mommy Trick!! Now I’m sad. Cue NTMTOM!! 😉 I like the name Treat, but I’m not very imaginative this early in the AM.

  23. Erm, pull a cat of whoopass out of what?

  24. Now get her fixed please.

  25. Amen to that.

  26. Hear hear. Fixed cat = 0 dead kittens, 0 extra kittens in shelters, 0 risk of mother cat dying next time.

  27. Tricky Woo was the name of the Peke in James Herriot’s “All Creatures” books.

  28. So glad to hear this story of survival, mom and baby will be a great pair!!!

  29. awww, i hope mama is recuperating.

  30. Ahh ear worm! All I had to do was see the link and got that song stuck in my head. /sigh lol

  31. Absolutely cute but sad. Cute little guy and lovely protective mom but sad that she had such a hard time and that the other littermates didn’t make it.

  32. 😆 I ♥ you for that! That’s an earworm I’ll enjoy! 😆

  33. Momma cat…”I went through hell for you, and all you can do is moan, and I’ll never get my figure back”.

  34. Colonel Jenna says:

Golly, all that milk production and tongue-bath and only one kitten? That is going to be the rolliest-polliest cleanest kittie EVER!

  35. ouch… moi neck…. 😦

  36. Gah! Pink gumdrop nose! ded.

  37. MamaDawn in Tulsa says:

Tricky Woo is also the name of Bucky Kat’s mom in the “Get Fuzzy” comic strip.

  38. oh!! bebe kitteh.

i’ve found they tell you their names when they’re ready.

  39. Congrats to the new mama!

  40. O NO He/ She/ It DI-unt!!! says:

    @ HG:

….you forgot the part, about “I carried you in my belly for nine months…”

  41. Be sure to file this one under Cute or Sad… Because it’s definitely sad AND cute…

  42. Luv Get Fuzzy!!! Bucky just woos me!!!

  43. Poop. You are right, I won’t deny it. But poop.

  44. *raises hand* I haz a question. How long do kittehs gestate? Surely it’s not nine months?

  45. The hovertext on the second picture brought me whimpers. Wishing the best to these two~

  46. Whoa. Niven flashback. It’s been a while.

  47. crrrazycatlady says:

The hovertext on the last picture did me in. :’)

  48. Adorable, durable baby 🙂

  49. Adurable!

  50. 🙂

  51. It reminds me of Nemo. The little last fish after the Barracuda attack. Name the kitty Nemo! And raise him to know the dangers of “touching the butt”.

  52. Eight or nine weeks, I believe.

  53. Awwww! I hope the person who is owned by these kitties KEEPS the baby, as well as the mama! They deserve to spend their lives together!

  54. LOL 🙂

  55. lisaloomaxim says:

awwwww how sad! 😦 he’s the lucky survivor though. very sad for the mommy 😦

  56. lisaloomaxim says:

    yes! very much

  57. GingerBean says:

Is it just me or is that kitten pretty big for a newborn? Look at those paws! or maybe mama cat is really tiny?

  58. Elvis survived his twin. Elvis would be a great name

  59. Also, the wee peenk toes in pic 2! Gah!

  60. If all the kittens survive, it would be considered normal.
If all the kittens die, it would be considered a tragedy.
If all the kittens die, except one, it’s a miracle.

Does that make any sense? Given that it’s not unusual to lose a newborn or two in litter-birthing species, it’s really the scenario where all the kittens survive that should be considered a miracle. Losing some, but not all, should be considered normal, and losing all is still a tragedy.

  61. You know, I see this sort of comment all the time, but I have to ask – what happens when people like this get their wish and every kitty in the world is fixed? Then there’d be no more kittens. Sometimes you have to take the good with the bad and kiss a furball or two.

  62. loves2sneeze says:

waaaaaah so sad! Mommy looks very happy to have her one bebbeh though.

  63. Awwww, poor Tricky. At least she has one sweet wittle squeeable baby.

  64. Princess of Insolence says:

People like this? Lucky for you that all the cats and dogs won’t get fixed, then. Mama needs spayed, for her own health as well as her future kittens.

  65. tesstricks says:

    So cute I cried.

  66. How about Lucky as his name?

Poor mama cat, all she’s got for her is “Lucky”. Well, at least she’s got a baby.

  67. tesstricks says:

    I like this! 😀

  68. and look at the baby kitten ears !!!1!

  69. O NO He/ She/ It DI-unt!!! says:

    outta my hat, of course!

    Didn’t you ever watch Bullwinkle
    (the Moose’s Magic Show) ???

  70. O NO He/ She/ It DI-unt!!! says:

And she looks soooooooooo relaxed, after her ordeal 🙂

  71. woah, deep man soo deep

  72. Kathleen in Canada says:

Do you realize how many cats and dogs in North America alone are put down every single day because there’s not enough people to adopt them?

Some day, if cats and dogs are truly on the verge of becoming extinct due to spaying and neutering, then we can worry about breeding programs. Until then, spaying and neutering remain the best option for family pets.

Besides, this little girl just lost most of her kittens. I’m sure her owner doesn’t want her to die in the next delivery.

  73. Kathleen in Canada says:

Compared to mama that is one big looking kitty. Better her than me for sure!

  74. Can we please have more of this?

  75. O NO He/ She/ It DI-unt!!! says:

    @ brinnann:

wow you still have your classroom manners!!!

I just did a quick reference and came up with the following range.
One statement said min of 58 days / max. of 70 days.
Then they took the medians and stated btw or
    approx 60-65 days.

……and when one divides those, by 7 days, one comes up with a total of btw (drumroll, please 🙂 ) PRECISELY as AuntieBellum stated, 8 to 9 weeks or about 2 months and a few more days, maximum.

    YAY AuntieBellum!!

  76. Well. Since no one else has called it re 1st pic yet, DIBS ON *gentle*NOSE BOOPS AND KEESES!!!

  77. seriously, a.b.? there are thousands of homeless cats and kittens euthanized in shelters every year. there’s no chance that we’ll be able to fix every cat in the world, so we should fix the ones we can to help reduce overpopulation. it’s the humane and responsible thing to do.

  78. superboymom says:

He could wear a little tiny tie dyed shirt!

  79. I’m so glad I’m not the first nuffer. May I briefly nuff, please? Just a leetle? At this time of year especially, when cat rescue charities are (cute)overloaded:

That’s quite enough of that now….SQUEE! Mummy-cat is beautiful, and she looks so proud of her baby. Adorable. *sniff*

  80. O NO He/ She/ It DI-unt!!! says:

(PS @ brinnannn: what I MEANT was, that I, myself, have nearly lost all those polite things, such as *raising hand*/ rather than to imply anything negative about YOUR actions 🙂 )

  81. Our Maggie had two littermates who died. We named her “Maggie” after the character of Maggie Fitzgerald in “Million Dollar Baby,” because my hubby is a Clint Eastwood fan. Even though the movie Maggie had a sad story’s end, we thought it was an appropriate name for our little fighter.

This little bundle o’luv? I agree with those who say that kittens discover/reveal/earn their names in time, but I agree that it should be something special to reflect the survivor spirit within. Beautiful mama kitteh!

  82. Kitteh on my b-day! What could be better?!

  83. Speaking of dying, I just did when I saw this post!

    *heart cramps*

  84. Gracie's Mom says:

So sad and so sweet all at the same time. *sigh*

  85. I think people are used to the way things work with humans. Specifically, how things work with humans now with modern technology. It’s a very rare thing for an infant to be lost during birth, so we often assume the same thing with our pets. Actually, with some of the same attentions paid to pregnant animals as are paid to humans, the survival of the entire litter wouldn’t be at all unusual.

Even so, every kitten dying except one lends people to think that the one survivor is special somehow, since it managed to avoid whatever killed its litter mates.

So perhaps a modified list should go as follows:

All kittens survive, it’s a miracle.
    Some kittens survive, it’s normal.
One kitten survives, it’s a miracle.
No kittens survive, it’s a tragedy.

  86. Tricky is a beautiful mama cat.

  87. My suggestion for a name is “Heart.”

Works for a girl or boy…. and it’s meaning is obvious.

  88. There’s a feral momcat in my neighborhood that keeps having litters in which all or nearly all the wee kitties perish. This last time she had them in my compost area for a bit, safe from my dogs’ maws, and I tried to call out a mobile spay unit. But she must have sensed it because she promptly moved house. Two of her kitties were adopted by my unfortunate friend who lost them both after spending a fortune at the vet. I’m sort of a person who accepts feral cats as a part of life, knowing they will find a way to make more of themselves in spite of our best efforts to contain them. But this poor momma, she has a very hard time.

Anyhow, the other day I walked out onto my front porch, and what bounced away but an adolescent kitteh looking exactly like one from the compost litter. And I rejoiced! But then got all sad again knowing that it would just be like it’s mom and make more kittens to die or make more kittens to die or make more kittens. Etc.

All this by way of saying, one can’t spay all the kitties if one wants more kitties, but wouldn’t it be nice if all the kittens (and puppies) born got to be wanted and warm?**

**It is still possible that if they could have their say-so the compost kitties themselves might insist they’re quite happy to be alive thankyewverrymuch and who am I to judge?

  89. Nemo!

  90. Thanks for the squee and the blub!

  91. Happy Birthday, victoreia!!!

  92. Absolutely, they do!

  93. I’m stealing from the hovertext, but why not name it Gloria?

  94. Happy birthday!

  95. Funny, my response was, “She plays trip-hop out at the clubs all night when she should be home loving this little one?”

  96. If it’s a girl you could name her Gloria (as in Gaynor). And for a boy… uhmm… Rocky? (cuz that band Survivor wrote the song Eye of the Tiger for Rocky III… yeah… that one is a bit of a stretch, lol)

  97. was totally thinking this 😀 except for the bloodhound gang version:

  98. Bless her little heart. ❤

  99. sheesh!

  100. fleurdamour says:

    That mama kitteh is beautiful.

  101. Best name choice. Ever. ❤

  102. Hopefully this baby doesn’t develop a habit of going “flop-bott.” 🙂

  103. Judging by the blue eyes, she might be a posh kitty, so perhaps she’s used to breed more posh kitties. Still, with her difficulties it’d be better for her.

  104. Well, if you wanna go there, Asia did a song called “Sole Survivor,” so…. 🙂

  105. I too would vote for Rupert!

  106. I kick it old school.

  107. It is nice that one lived but think of the mother she had a bad time and all of her kittens died except the one for the mother get her spaded because next time it could be the mother that dies and the fact she had a bad time of it it would be a bad idea to try again so for the mother pleaseeeeeeeeeee get her fixed! it could save her life and not make more unwanted kittens we have enough of them all ready P.S. yes the baby is cute.

  108. Mr. Justin R., please send in (and C.O. pleeeeze post) updates as Tricky’s little kitteh grows. Thank you.

  109. And pushed you out of my body when your head was the size of a watermelon . . .

  110. How’s about “Milagra”?

  111. Kris is absolutely right. Every kat I’ve shared an abode with told me his/her name when the kat trusted me enough to know it. That’s how “The Great Catsby” and “Nehmiah Pursoof” were given their real names. Two of the very best kittehs evar! Nehi would eat french fries but only if they had ketchup on them and he would eat the cheerios out of Chex Mix but hooking a lower tooth into the center of one and pulling it out of the mix. Both gone now and I still miss them but have wonderful memories of 2 truly wonderful katz.

  112. I hope they get “Tricky” spayed, so she doesn’t get “tricked” again.

  113. So cute!!! I love it.

  114. April's NaNa says:

Mamacat appears to be Tabby-point Siamese..and all Siamese kittens are born white. Bebeh may turn out to be a whole range of color points. One nice thing about Siamese mamacats, they will box train their babies as soon as they can wobble over to said facility. Some will even “teach” their offspring your houserules. Ours was a very GOOD mommy to two litters in her nineteen years of life on earth. Tching and Tchang(the daddycat)are still terribly missed by our whole family! *sigh*

  115. Gigi (the original one) says:

Don’t forget the: And I was in labor for EVER!

  116. One Skunk Todd says:

    Yes, future updates definitely required.

  117. For everyone who’s jumped my case: I’m very well aware of the number of kittens who are euthanized for lack of homes. Is it a tragedy? Yes?

But surely some of you are also aware of the number of species driven to extinction and near-extinction by well-meaning humans trying to help another species often themselves, but sometimes their livestock as well. This is true of many predator species in particular. Every time you tinker with the circle of life, you screw it up, and this is no different. The road to hell is paved with good intentions, and the day we figure that out and learn to leave well enough alone.

And “there’s no way we can possibly ever spay them all?” That’s what they said about the buffalo, too 🙂 Uh-huh. Never underestimate the power of a determined Man to monumentally screw up the whole circle in the name of good works.

  118. …often times, I imagine people talking without catching their breath when commas are missing.

  119. @Justin R: let us know if there’s anything we can do to help, adoption, donation, etc…

  120. Yes, updates pleeeeeez!

  121. Hans…. solo. 🙂

  122. Quick… someone give Mama another kitteh. Or a puppy!

  123. It was an act of nature. Tragic, but momma will take good care of this one special kitty. All her energy, nutrition and attention.

  124. Well, when we get to the point where dogs and cats are about to be extinct, then we’ll relax the rule. Until then, spay and neuter to your heart’s content people!

  125. 😯 That part really scares me: Squeezing something the size of a watermelon out of something the size of a peach. I’ve had people tell me I’m crazy, but I think I’ll go for an elective C-section when I have kids. Yes, there’ll be scarring and extended recovery time, but I honestly don’t think I could handle it.

  126. As do I. It makes me feel tired for them.

  127. MacLeod, there can be only one.

  128. It would be wonderful if all babies born, be they puppies, kitties or humans, were wanted, healthy, safe and warm.

I pray one day it may be so.

Until then, we have CO, and Megster and Theo and NTMTOM and Prongs and this wonderful community of caring people. And beautiful Tricky and her little angel kitteh…

  129. Perhaps one day, this one will earn a name like Speaker-to-Animals 🙂

  130. Itteh Bitteh Momma’s Kitteh!

  131. BeeGee.

    Stayin’ Alive 😀

  132. ❤ to Alyx and Noelegy.
The best series of books EVAR.

  133. @ceejoe and skippymom: Thank you! (Or should that be: Fang ewe?)

  134. Please be responsible. Have both of them spayed/neutered. It is cruel not to.

  135. made me cry! aaaaaaawwww

  136. I find it very hard to believe that anyone really worried about spaying and neutering buffaloes 😉 But we’ll consider your point when we need to start worrying about people eating too many cats, k?

  137. Mary (the first) says:

This brought a little lump to my throat about the difficult birth and other babies and sweetness of little “Treat” here. (That’s my vote. Treat.) I’m going to nuff slightly though because I was always always told not to let tiny babies out into too much light until their eyes are well open, and this baby is out in what seems like a lot of light to me. Justin, please put back into dim light until he/she is a little older.

  138. snerk. Nice one.

  139. I had the same thought, and wondered, if the littermates that used to be were all equally as large? 😯 Poor mama kitty!

  140. Happy Birthday!!! And many more (kittens, of course 😉 )

  141. Saint Stryfe says:

We look for that one light in the darkness. Rather then curse the darkness, we hail the light. Isn’t that what this time of year is all about?

  142. or stick with animal friends and stay beautiful forever! and better smelling poops

  143. Oh my God! This is my cat! 😀 My husband didn’t even tell me he sent this in to Cute Overload! Thanks for all the sweetness — that was a very difficult day. Tricky Woo had a C-section to get the last kitten out, and the vet bill was $1200. We’re extremely fortunate to be able to pay that, and I know a lot of pet owner’s would have to make the alternate heartbreaking choice.

Both mama and kitten are doing very well. (For the curious, they’re both white bengals, apparently.) We’ve decided on a name: General Sterling Price. Justin is a big John Wayne fan. 🙂

If anybody would like to see more photos, you can check out this Flickr set!

  144. Tricky Woo is the mother cat’s name.

  145. She was fixed during her C-section.

  146. Don’t worry, we’re not giving him up. Our dog is already attached to him!

  147. Tricky Woo has always been a really small cat. She was a stray — I suspect a runt. I was shocked she had four kittens, didn’t think they would all fit.

  148. Trooper.

  149. that’s a proud momma.

  150. Tricky looks like a kitten, herself! Aw!

  151. Watch his weight and make sure he is always gaining a little. Sometimes one kitten does not stimulate enough milk production.

What a cutie. Looks very strong too.

  152. Beautiful beautiful mama and baby!

One of the worst fights I ever got in was with a woman who jumped me because I had a pregnant cat. I heard it all – how irresponsible I am, how evil, etc etc. Boy was she embarrassed when I interrupted her to leave so I wouldn’t be late to take said kitteh to vet for a checkup and even more so to find out she was one of many pregnant ones my mom and I rescued and then found good homes for.

I run into that a lot in this area for some reason. People jumping before they know what’s going on. We’ve had 2 sometimes 3 pregnant ones at a time. All of them we either tamed or found after they were abandoned, dumped, etc. Found them homes, fixed them, found the babies good homes that would fix, etc.

And I vote for Treat too! Just such a cute name!

  153. rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  154. (The Original) Mel says:

    Yep. Me 2.

  155. Name him “Rocky”…because he’s such a fighter…(-:

  156. GGGRRRRRRRRRR i smell nuffing….

  157. So sad. But what a sweetie!

  158. I would wager most momma cats featured here end up being rescued strays that are fixed as soon as possible.

  159. Lewis n' Clark says:

    has this dog been neutered?

  160. That looks like a very happy momma cat.

  161. They did, I believe 🙂 🙂

  162. Sterling = precious metal and precious kitty.

  163. I loves dis baybee kitteh! My lovecat Myrrh the Purr was white when ittybitty, but we could see ghosly stripes when he was held up in the light. Now he is a beeyooteefull seal lynx point marble tabby wif de majikal bloo eyes. I hope Sterling is half as purr-dee when he grows up. many tanks for shares of dis squeeboy!

  164. I vote for Treat, as did at least one other post I saw. It could be Tricky and Treat. It’s a little out of season currently, but it’s cute! And it’s very sad and momma is very beautiful. This little baby is going to be treasured. Oh! Treasure is kinda cute too.

  165. The second photo is just precious. Live long and prosper little one. And I hope Momma Tricky will be a good mom indeed.

  166. “every kitten dying except one lends people to think that the one survivor is special somehow, since it managed to avoid whatever killed its litter mates”

I think you’ve nailed it there. That one sole survivor* was presumably exposed to the same conditions that killed all the others, yet somehow pulled through.

Gah! Now I have “Eye of the Tiger” going through my head. (Hmmm, maybe the kitten should be named “Rocky.”)

  167. Haha, I had the exact same thought, re: Rocky. And I think it would be a cute name for a girl kitty too, no?

  168. Princess of Insolence says:

Those are awfully fabulous names. They go on my short list of best.anipal.names.ever!

  169. I’m with Sharpy– fur-kids forever!

  170. [sigh] I’d need a bigger apartment for more kittens…….I’m only allowed two.

  171. 😯 That’s a h*ll of a run-on sentence!

    @ brinnann: No kidding!

  172. Princess of Insolence says:

Exactly! Just like those who type in all caps are HOLLERING!

  173. YAY, Susan! and YAY for Tricky Woo and G.S.P.! (Although “eep” re the vet bill. 😯 )

  174. O NO He/ She/ It DI-unt!!! says:

    Hey, LOOK, everybody!!!

It’s Marc Anthony, the bulldog!!!! 🙂

  175. i say the baby’s name should be Ier. Pronounced: eee-er.

As in, Mom is Tricky, but baby is even trickIER.

  176. O NO He/ She/ It DI-unt!!! says:

am loving the hooking one tooth into the Chex Mix, etc.

Salinger (the Great) used to enjoy Cheez-It crackers … or at least
he enjoyed the salt on ’em 🙂

  177. I WANT THE MOMMY KITTY THE KITTEN IS CUTE 2 that poor kitten the only survivor and the poor mommy cat

  178. O NO He/ She/ It DI-unt!!! says:

WOW ok everybody, join in now:

    “Happy Birdie, Two Ewes!!!
    Happy Birdie, Two Ewes!!!

    Happy Birdiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiie Victoreia!!!

    Happy Biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirdie, Two Ewwwwwwwwes!!!

(in the distance: “And menny mooooooooooore!!!!!!” 🙂 )

  179. Tricky was spayed during her C-section.

  180. Both Tricky and baby are doing really well, and the vet said her milk production is good. Kitten’s getting so big already!

  181. So sweet and beautiful.

  182. O NO He/ She/ It DI-unt!!! says:

    @ Cudge:

oh boy, do I know how that “song” goes. That is basically the tale of a lovely kitteh for whom I cared for about a year, from having had her first litter (all of whom we think were chomped, as her “hiding place” was about 8 feet from water’s edge which really truly contains a very large gator; along with possums and lots of tomcats and many Especially Huge Rodentia that we saw….), then rehabbed her from the edge/ starvation, then (sigh) she again became pregnant (I do not own a car and none of my friends at that apt complex owned cars) ….so I had the local animal service pick her up finally, in order at least not to have 4-6 more kittens die a death by another critter or automobiles (it was also very very close to quite a busy roadway) ….. If the apt property allowed any animals indoors, I would have adopted her and brought her inside the first day I found her. She didn’t trust anyone else on the property.

Her name was Reesie and I miss her dearly.

  183. O NO He/ She/ It DI-unt!!! says:

condolences to April’s Na Na 🙂

  184. That is the cutest mommy kitty ever.

  185. O NO He/ She/ It DI-unt!!! says:

    Like that thought/ connection 🙂

(and actually, and I am aware, that this is practically treason, but I entirely *HATE* the song I will survive/ GG. ick; so your choice is a MUCH
    more pleasant option 🙂 )

  186. O NO He/ She/ It DI-unt!!! says:

    That is Marc Anthony 🙂

  187. Exactly what I thought of 🙂

  188. O NO He/ She/ It DI-unt!!! says:

    THAT’s a GREAT name!!!! 🙂 I vote for “Treat”!!!

  189. wow, you have a beautiful kitty! Im so glad that tricky, littermates and mamma r okay :3 Congrats!

  190. O NO He/ She/ It DI-unt!!! says:

    hands a lace handkerchief 🙂

  191. O NO He/ She/ It DI-unt!!! says:

YAY SUSAN R!!! and muchos kudos & congratulations,
on your handling that size vet bill for the lovely young mama!!!!

  192. O NO He/ She/ It DI-unt!!! says:

    YAY for Rosewolf!!!

  193. kibblenibble says:

That’s good news! Thanks for the update!

  194. Ooooooh, good suggestion. That’s my 12yr old tabby’s name. She’s a fighter and a survivor (and a luv muffin)! It’s funny how pets grow into their names.

  195. Im sorry, i didnt mean littermates… i ment to say that im glad that the mamma and kitten are okay, bless all of the other kittys

  196. Susan R : I am so glad you saved the mom and baby! I am sure you will share many happy years together.

  197. So there we are. Nuffing over. Thank you, Susan, for your generous and wonderful care of your sweet baby. And her sweet baby.

  198. Little Champion!!

  199. Happy Birthday, Victoreia 😀

  200. Good name 🙂

  201. *claps*

  202. I vote for Rupert too! What a tough little guy! ♥ Poor mama

  203. don’t do the c-section. The fact that I puked for four hours after mine until they knocked me out with strong pain meds (and eff’d up my nursing relationship in the process) is reason enough for me to never ever have one again.

  204. That’s how Houdini the kitten got his name. He escaped every conceivable method we could come up with to try to keep the kittens from wandering the main house. Can’t tell you how many times I’d come into the kitchen to find him trying to eat adult kitteh food when he had kitten food with his brothers and sisters in their room. (we gave them a whole room, but it wasn’t enough for him!)

  205. Aww…. such a sweet picture of mom and baby! <:-}

  206. Ahem. I hate to join in this mini-commentroversy (no I don’t) but I just had to point out that cats are DOMESTIC animals, so far removed from their wild ancestors, that no one could even knew where the hell they came from until pretty recently. Which means that “well-meaning humans” have been “tinkering” with them for centuries. And even if we could sterilize them all (truly impossible) it would actually be a good thing, ecologically speaking, since domestic cats are an invasive species that in some places have caused the extinction of other animals. That said, without kittehs, CuteOverload would not have nearly so many adorable things to post.

  207. “Lucky” if the kitten is a boy or “Lily” if the kitten is a girl 😀

  208. AWW 😀 I am so glad to hear that 😀

  209. I would, but that was actually the nest that Tricky picked–right under our dining room table. I was hesitant to move them. Since they have decided to relocate to my nice, dark closet…

  210. General Sterling Price is an AWESOME name!!! That made me lol. Love it when animals get people names, with titles!! I hope for the best with your new family. That little boy looks like he can meow his heart out!

  211. Sid likes Marmite [the salt] and ice cream [sweet] but not together, Marmite ice cream yerk!

  212. This is so sad! I had a little mama kitty that had a traumatic first litter — she had five in total but only two survived, and they were frighteningly small and half-bald. We were sure they weren’t going to survive, but they somehow managed to hold on, and Mama managed to figure out how to take care of them, and they became the cutest, most rambunctious brother-sister pair ever. I ended up giving them to a friend who named them Sugar and Salt. I hope this little kitty has as happy an ending!

  213. Parp! Oh sorry it wasn’t for me, well I’ve used it up now. I think I’ll go back to my roll of Kitchen towel. Cough splutter hick hack hoc.

  214. I dont know if you misspelled it on purpose, but if you didn’t… It’s “Han” Solo

    Name Examples:
Vita or Vito – it means life
Angus (boy) – Its a pretty name and it means “One Strength”
I also liked Nemo, as moony suggested 🙂

You should post pictures of him/her as (s)he ages. I’m sure they’ll be cute enough for this site :p

  215. I think all living beings deserve a name as soon as the gender is determined. A name should be earned by birth, in my opinion.
I hate it when people don’t bother to name their cats.

  216. Awww. That´s so sad. 😦

But seeing the positive side is that there one cute little one and mummy has not done all her labour for nothing. 🙂

  217. Awww. That´s so sad. 😦

But seeing the positive side is that there one cute little one and mummy has not done all her labour for nothing. 🙂

  218. It’s a literary reference. Look up the Man-Kzin Wars. The Kzin don’t get names unless they earn them, and, almost always, their initial name is merely their occupation. A true name is much, much harder to earn.

  219. First reaction: Oh! Poor mommy-cat, how sad!
Reaction upon seeing baby-cat: Awwww, how cute and adorable is that??!!!
Second photo looks like mommy-cat giving the new arrival a hug, and it is one of the most adorable photos I’ve ever seen.

  220. *clasps along side Kelly*

  221. One year alone here in my city, over 15,000 dogs and cats were brought into the shelter (just 1 kill shelter…this total is NOT for all of the shelters in my city). However, only about 1200 were adopted. Do the math and your heart will break with how many were killed. Now, think about every shelter across our nation. I have a feeling the number may near our national debt. Spaying and neutering will help lower that number and help those living find available homes. I am a HUGE animal lover, but I know the facts. Numbers don’t lie.

  222. Thanks. Give her a kiss from all of us. Your kitties are beautiful! Please post a picture of the little one if possible so we can see how he/she is looking now.

My neighbor had a pile ‘o kittens one year. I loved visiting cuz her 3 boys would bring me all the kittens and put them in my lap. HEAVEN!

  223. I only have fur kids and NO regrets. They never steal money out of my wallet, I don’t have to pay for a college education, they don’t cuss me and they NEVER tell me “I hate you!!!”. It’s all snuggles and kisses from them and my husband in my world! Good life!

  224. I have a cat Sidney! One of his many nicknames is Siddles! 🙂 He eats everything except pickles. The funny thing is, he is a slim hard-body and he is a gullet! My other one, eats only “weight watchers” and she is a full-figured gal. Proof that life is not fair, no matter the species! LOL.

  225. Susan, I KNOW you and I would be friends! 🙂

  226. Susan R. stated that she was spayed.

  227. Hey, I hate it too!!!

  228. I would have paid it, too, – in an instant! Kisses to all the kitties (and your pup)! Love the name! Do you call him Price, for short?

  229. Susan R., your pictures of Tricky and the General are absolutely gorgeous. Then again, Tricky is stunningly beautiful, and General Price is cute as a button! (And, if you don’t mind my saying so, your husband is not half bad looking himself… and I am old enough to be his mom!)

A wonderful family, indeed. Live long and prosper!

  230. Bless you Susan R! Thank you for the updates and for sharing with us.

  231. i’m facing that barrel right now. i’m even going natural childbirth. i’m scared but i only gained baby weight and i figure my teeeeeny grandma had 5 so….. it’ll be fine, in the end…right?

  232. Yay! 🙂

  233. Susan, I’m not sure who’s luckier, Tricky for having parents who love her, Sterling for having a wonderful family who fought for him or you & hubby for having Tricky persevere like a little Duke.

  234. I just love that “proud mamma cat” look. It slays me every time.

  235. Treat! I love it! This little kitteh is definitely a treat.

  236. @Alyx & Noelegy I loved those books!

  237. KittyMarthaPoo says:

I too am a fur-kid mom only (no human kids) by choice 🙂

  238. *snerk*

  239. The life of a feral is a tough one. Most communities have a TNR program(trap, neuter, release) where you can borrow a humane trap, catch the kitty with food, and take to be neutered, and givien basic shots. There are very low cost clinics to help with this. I had 8 ferals “fixed” including 2 old Tom’s who won’t have anything to do with me anymore, LOL. The colony has begun to die out, but at least there aren’t hoards of new helpless little kitties being born into a miserable life. Type Alley Cat Allies into your browzer, they can help you locate help with this. There are people who will even help you do this. It was kind of stressful trapping them, but worth it in the end.

  240. “That’s one big butt.”

  241. Mrs. Darcy says:

Our Siamese we had years ago had a litter where one kitten survived (could it have had anything to do with her building her birthing nest in the basement ceiling, scaling the bookcase to get there?)

Anyway, after a harrowing visit to the vets when the last kitten was not coming out, we had our Archie. (“Aww, Mom, Dad–we can’t give away ONE kitten!”) He and his mom were with us for 18 and 19 years, respectively. They were the best!

  242. *hugs* for you and your sweet caring heart

  243. or “cracker-dog”, er, “cat” 🙂

  244. Score! You win the Intent for Nehemiah Pursoff!
    Well done!

  245. GD – My Sidney is a slimster too, I use Sidders as a nickname. He’s also long boy.

  246. I’d call the kitten Felice, which is Italian for ‘lucky/happy’.

  247. alternatively, you could milk the mama to increase her production… Who wants their tea with a splash of kitty milk? LOL

    PS kitty’s too cute.

  248. buttercream says:

Brinnann, don’t be frightened! Those stories about the watermelon/peach/etc., are just for laughs. The birth process is natural and well-compensated for by a woman’s body, or a kitten’s body, or an elephant’s body, etc. But either way you go, the important thing is to have a healthy baby. 🙂

buttercream, a mom of wonderful twin teenage boys (who never cursed me, stole my wallet or shouted, “I hate you!”) and two furry cat babies (who I also love).

  249. How about Mowgli from Jungle Book, the little boy was a survivor. OR Bagheera after the panther.

  250. O NO He/ She/ It DI-unt!!! says:

That’s quite elegant and also happy!!

  251. O NO He/ She/ It DI-unt!!! says:

    **high-fives GD**

  256. O NO He/ She/ It DI-unt!!! says:

    thank you, maeby!!

    *feeling encouraged*

  257. O NO He/ She/ It DI-unt!!! says:

useful info — never knew about Alley Cat Allies, before– Glad to know that there are such places/ people/ avenues to help our sweet kittehs. Thanks for the compassion and for the data 🙂

  258. O NO He/ She/ It DI-unt!!! says:

phrase: “pile o’ kittens” = WIN!!!

  259. O NO He/ She/ It DI-unt!!! says:

@ GD: “once upon a time” about 10 yrs ago, I shared a condo with another hooman bean and an exceedingly tragic & mournful Basset Hound whose name was also Sidney. I’ve always admired that name for a furry person.

  260. O NO He/ She/ It DI-unt!!! says:

the fact, that the word begins with the prefix “fel” (as in “feline”) gains it bonus points!!!

  261. That pretty momma kitty! I want to kees her! Aww. Mine kittayan she sez…

  262. Thank you for sharing. My thoughts and prayers are with the mother and her precious survivor.

  263. God bless you wonderful people for taking the time, energy and money to save this precious little life. May you have many deliriously cute and happy years with your kittybabies!

  264. I am so glad that all her labor was not for nothing. At least she has one kitten to lavish all that mama-kitty love on.

  265. Daphne Moss says:

I love these photos of the beautiful momma and her darling baby.
So glad the baby was born into a household where I’m sure he’ll be loved…and kept?
    My choice for name: Precious

  266. Looks like the little guy’s going to be Siamesey.

  267. So so so tiny and cuuuuute!!! <3333

  268. All the photos of Tricky and her kitten at here on this Flickr set for your enjoyment. 🙂 I’ll keep adding to it as he grows!

  269. “He touched the butt 😀 !”

  270. Seriously, out of all these survivor name suggestions, not one James, Hugo, Richard, ect out of any of you? Not even an Aaron? Tsk. Tsk…

I suppose Sterling works fine though. May he shine!

  271. Once the kitten is old enough, don’t forget to get momma spayed.

  272. And I just saw her on ICHC; one of today’s posts!

  274. and don’t forget to get the kitten spayed. and all the cats in the neighborhood. i don’t have a cat, but i’m going to get one and get her spayed. AND neutered. cats are never too old or nonexistent enough to be spayed.

    please! everyone! remember!

what? have i overspayed my welcome?

  275. Spay it, don’t spray it.

  276. what do i know? this is all neuter me.

  277. Yes, in my experience, which is not insignificant, this line of punnery is entirely euniche.

  278. a-HA! army man, you parry with aplomb.

alas, your answer engenders in me a feeling of exhaustion. i think i shall castrate to bed.

  279. In the words of General McAuliffe: Nuts.

  280. well played, army-man, well played.

    *sweeping arm bow*

  281. [snappy salute]

  282. O NO He/ She/ It DI-unt!!! says:

BWA and ALSO ha ha!!!! 🙂

  283. Do not miss the photos Susan R posted on Flickr of Tricky Woo and her kitten. See above for the link. I vote for another CO entry with some of these photos. They are adorable!

  285. ALI i like this very much…
