If only mice, catnip and ear skritches could drop from the sky too.

If kittens would drop from the sky like that, THAT would be heaven…

  2. cyberpunkrocker says:

Of course, with some kind of parachute <3

  3. Stoich91 says:

d’aw… but you know string is bad for kittehs, right? Hallmark bad pet-owner trait is giving a cat any type of yarn. They swallow it, and their agenda it might be up to kitteh heaven, and not raining down to earth! ;) Still, cute commercial!

  4. Martha in Washington says:

THIS is why I feed my Gemma Purina Cat Chow! They just get it! And this would send Gemma in to absolute spasms of ecstasy. She likes to “help” me when I crochet.

  5. robinb says:

Please remember that yarn is only to be used as a toy with adult supervision! :)

  6. squizz says:

    hilarious, but too bad it’s a commercial…

  7. But where are the catnip mousies? :D

  8. Susanova says:

Cute, no matter if it’s a commercial or not.

  9. Lori says:

Don’t let your cat’s play with yarn! I almost lost my beloved because he got a hold of some of my knitting. Over a thousand dollars at the vet, a failed operation on his intestines and 3 enemas later he lived through it but it was close. It might be cute but it isn’t worth it!

  10. O NO He/She/It DI-unt!!! says:

@ Meg: is that high-rise office with all the windows…the CO Administrative Offices? Sure would make sense with this clip’s premise!!!!

  11. sunnymum says:

Thanks for the message Stoich. I saw way too many kittehs perish after ingesting yarn and string to consider this cute. Too many people think cats should play with yarn, and this is a myth that does not need to be perpetuated by a cat food company. Too bad if I’m “nuffing,” I would rather save a few kitteh’s lives.

  12. Mary (the first) says:

Sorry Sharpy, Stoich is right, but on the other hand with adult supervision, as robinb points out, it would be fine. But you can’t let them swallow any. I almost lost my kitteh because she had swallowed stuff (she chewed up a sock, not something I had given her) and ..well. Anyway don’t let them swallow yarn.

  13. mtkees says:

I loved the bengal by the pool. Not that I didn’t want ALL of them, but that one especially.

  14. derz says:

wowsa. So I’ve been avoiding reading comments throughout all of CO. But I see this VERY CUTE video of kitties playing with yarn and I SQUEED! My leetle grey one, loves to “help” me while I’m crocheting, so I TOTALLY love this veed. And I was thinking to myself, there is no way anyone can nuff this video. I was completely wrong!!!! Back to not reading comments and enjoying the cute…. again.

  15. Teenygozer says:

Awesome commercial, but sorry, pet food company, way too much corn in your cat food, and I would never feed my kitties anything with a by-product in it in any case!

Sadly, the really good cat food companies don’t make commercials!

  16. Sandra says:

I know Mark Vette, the animal trainer who trained the cats for this ad (it’s a NZ ad). The cats spent a couple of weeks with Mark training for the ad, with each cat being trained to do a specific thing based on their temperament. I can’t help but squee every time I see the kittens at the end!

  17. MamaLana says:

    Yes, squee!

  18. GNDtn says:

as a knitter, I would love for yarn to fall out of the sky…

  19. Jimbeaux says:

They are adorable, and there’s little better than watching a playful kitten. I don’t want to nuff, but I will add to the chorus of ‘ingesting yarn = bad’. Worked a few years in a vet office, and there were a lot of suffering li’l kitties there due to yarn-based digestion problems. :(

    • Sharpy says:

      @jimbeaux

fair enough. i can see how this would be a little scary. but i’m going to limit the comments to OMGWHATACUTECOMMERCIALIWOULDTOTALLYBUYTHATJUSTTOSEETHEKITTEHSANDSTRING category, ok?

  20. victoreia says:

On the one hand, this is very cute.

OTOH, the voice of experience really isn’t happy about it.

    I’m so conflicted…

  21. nycat says:

That is soooo cute. And not to be a nuffer, just a word of caution: if you let kittehs play with yarn, just supervise them. Last year, my cat had the mishap of swallowing strings, and barfed uncontrollably. Fortunately, the vet said my cat managed to puke them all out, thus no need for surgery or anything. Phew.

  22. Brenda says:

I love it! What an adorable commercial! :)

  23. adorable cats, but agree whole-heartedly w/ teenygozer, crap food. I hate it. It’s sad that the companies making truly excellent food for kitties can’t put this kind of money into marketing.

  24. BenPanced says:

Note to self: stop clicking on the comments already!

  25. Basement Cat says:

LOL, hilarious ad. :) What if fishes would drop from the sky? :D

  26. kathyp says:

Christmas is coming! Remember that cats shouldn’t eat tinsel, either. I’ve always loved tinsel on the tree, but had to limit it to the top half of the tree so it wouldn’t be nibbled when there were cats in the house.

  27. The nays have it this time, guys.

  28. Teresa says:

 They should of used catnip  You would of seen a lot of bombed out of their furry little mind kitties

  29. warrior rabbit says:

Verrrrry cute. (But why does every post have to become a PSA per commenters? It does become rather tiresome.)

  30. Fern says:

Nuffing can be a real pain, but the people who do it seem to have had the kinds of experiences they don’t want us to have. It’s true that some people are just angry all the time and use any excuse to vent, but a lot of what was written here is really meant to help.

I would ask folks to read all the comments before you add your own. A lot of what’s said is there four or five times. I think that would cut down a lot on the nuffing.

  31. Hon Glad says:

    An unlikely yarn.

Sharpy – whats with the hand drawn thingy, that looks like a video loading when I point the cursor.

    • Sharpy says:

      @hon glad

      >>whats with the hand drawn thingy, that looks like a video loading when I point the cursor.

      where? what? who?

  32. Alex C. says:

Whew! Sure glad I clicked on the comments so I knew to stop enjoying this adorable commercial!

  33. marthava says:

@warrior rabbit: I’m with you. Sheesh. Enough with the “ohmygodyourcatisgoingtoDIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” already. You would think that the readers of this blog are STUPID or something. As I would have said in 2nd grade, “YOU’RE STUPID!!!!!!” :)

  34. bookmonstercats says:

Very cute commercial. Goes well with the IKEA kitties. Perhaps a new tag is needed? Cute Commercials?

My kittehs only ever played with yarn when they interrupted my knitting, but I don’t think the commercial would have worked as well without the cute balls of blue yarn.

  35. Cashew says:

@bookmonstercats, there is already a tag for product cuteness. some very cute older commercials in there, check it out!

  36. annoyinglittletwerp says:

Cute commercial. I used to feed my guys Purina One until my TUT-Totally Useless Tabby-started losing MAJOR weight and was diagnosed with celiac disease.
    Now they’re on Blue Buffalo.
Purina was a lot less expensive though.

  37. Alison says:

My first thought upon seeing this commercial: “Man, I could make a LOT of sweaters out of that”…also the kitties were pretty cute I guess.

  38. Susan says:

Song! Whats the song? and lyrics?

  39. psychethos says:

That was ah-dorabuls. I love the excited looks on the kittehs’ faces, and the glee of the kittens tumbling around in yarn.

Can’t believe that so many have already managed to nuff this. We all know that animals should not eat things that aren’t food. Ok?

  40. Hon Glad says:

Sharpy – When I put the cursor arrow over a posters image, the image of a square with the circular do jiggy that shows a video down loading appears.

  41. Sophie says:

    Susan:
    Laissez passer les petits enfants,
Qui s’en vont voir leur maman aux champs.
It’s a French “comptine” that litterally means “Make way for the little children who are going to see their mamas in the fields.”
Repeated over and over and over…
I have no idea where those people got that thing…

  42. Sophie says:

Susan: I found that version of the song on you tube:

    • Sharpy says:

      @sophie

      >>Susan: I found that version of the song on you tube:

and then it’s back to the housework ;)

  43. Aside from the dangers of playing with yarn, there’s the questionable advertising method of equating food with playtime.

  44. LeAnn (not LeAnna or Lee Ann) says:

Well! I’m glad I clicked on the comments. I was going to say how much I liked the yarn part as well as the kittehs, but I didn’t know that yarn and string are bad for them. I’m a crochet maven and my cat pulls the stray balls of yarn out of the bag and runs all over the apt with them. I’ll have to be more careful. Pretty color blue, too!

  45. Johanna says:

This is just adorable. And I feel a lot safer knowing there are Yarn Police patrolling the world.

  46. Laura says:

    Dudes, that is KNITTER heaven!

  47. emmberrann says:

This is, indeed, a very cute commercial.
I am sorry to report that at about age 21, Mr. Picky’s condition is seriously deteriorated, and he is no longer eating and has become downright skinny, although he is still drinking a little bit and eliminating a little bit. He walks around constantly meowing, and I’m thinking he is trying very hard to tell me he wants to stop this foolishness. I am very conflicted about helping him leave this world and trying just a little something else to lengthen his life….

    • Ali-baba says:

Emmberrann..I know how hard that is..I had to let my sweet Rusty go a little over three years ago & he was skinny & meowing all the time too. I still miss his wet paws …he would scoop his water & then lick his paw. I am sending you & Mr Pickles caring thoughts.

  48. Susan says:

@Sophie – thanks for the song info!

  49. Martha in Washington says:

@video–that is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen! What is that instrument and where can I find one? Who is that man playing that instrument and where can I find him? How do you learn to play that instrument? What does all that French mean? Somebody please tell me!!!

  50. brinnann says:

 Hon Glad, have you tried hovering over anyone’s Gravatar? I had no idea…

  51. brinnann says:

    They’re called “hovercards.” :?

  52. A.B. says:

Sigh. And to think that I come here to escape all the negativity around me. No wonder I seldom read and even more seldom comment.

I hate people. Truly I do.

  53. Prof. Bleen says:

    Hey, it’s Seattle! (See 0:21.)

  54. Jen8 says:

When did the main offices of Cute Overload move into the wet blanket factory?

  55. emmberrann says:

Mr. Picky died at 4:10 EDT today.

  56. brinnann says:

    {{{{{{HUGS}}}}}} to emmberrann

    And more giant {{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}

  57. becx says:

I think this is a simultaneous heaven and hell for knitters too . . . who wouldn’t get excited about all that free yarn to gobble up, but then to have to guard it from all the cute kitties stealing it away, it might just be too much!!

  58. Ranylt says:

If Ennio Morricone scored catfood ads…in the early 70s. That tune makes the ad.

  59. flutterby says:

So sorry emmberrann! My sympathies to you..:(

  60. warrior rabbit says:

Aw, Emmberrann, so sorry to hear. I believe you said he was 21, and I assume most of that was with you. He lived, loved, and was loved. What more could a kitty, even a picky one, ask for?

  61. mplsmom says:

    Great balls of yarn….let’s play.

  62. mplsmom says:

Or rather, Great balls of yard, I am all fired up. Let’s play!

  63. JerilynS says:

@Emberrann: I’m sorry for your loss. I have a 20 and 1/2 year old and I worry about her constantly.

As to the commercial: Hallelujah! It’s raining wool! Hey hey hey!

  64. bookmonstercats says:

    Thanks, @Cashew. I hadn’t realised…… and I’ve only been hanging about here for a few years…

@Hon Glad, loving your continuing display of deep geeky technical knowledge……

  65. emmberrann says:

@all: Thanks for your kind thoughts, I’ll always miss my Picky-cat.

  66. roisin says:

I’d lock my cats and the dog in the house and run around catching the yarn myself. You can’t have too much yarn or too much fabric. I try not to let the animals play with the yarn because it sucks to try to rewind your yarn balls after they went through a wild romp with the kitties or the doggies.
Sarah like yarn balls too. She often buries them. ugh.

  67. snoopysnake says:

I’m sorry for your loss, emmberran. My dear departed Dale is in cat heaven and I’m sure she and the other C.O. readers’ angel kitties there will help show Picky-cat around. God Bless all cats on earth and in heaven.

  68. PurplePrimevalGeckos says:

I see this ad constantly in me country…too…much…cuteness…

  69. Dr Anne says:

I don’t think anyone is being the fun police here and I support the nuffing. The truth is that linear foreign bodies kill cats frequently and pet food manufacturers know it. There are a million and one other ways to depict cats having fun that don’t risk their lives.

Plus, all of us who share our lives w cats know that more things raining from the sky isn’t merrier: cats have a very fixed attention span and usually throw their paws up when their is too much stuff to focus on.

    Dr Anne

  70. Dr Anne says:

PS not dissing the good work of the trainer. I worship the ground of anyone who trains cats.
