Building Better Bunnies

Welcome to Pet Propulsion Laboratories, where we make ani-pals faster, stronger, and cuter. In our wind tunnel, for example, we’re testing a new aerodynamic bunny that can reach speeds of over 90 MPH.

Thanks to researchers Serena C. and Ting Y.

What a “cool” bunneh, totally chillin’ there!

  2. PJ says:

Um, now that I look at it there is a footage issue …

  3. Lerrinus says:

Bun is being dried with a Hare-Dryer! :-)

  4. fatgrammafinn says:

i believe that groomer is having the stuffing disapproved out of her.. at 90 miles and hour.

oh, and must boop the floof…BOOP!

  5. Kar says:

This looks like the old Maxell ad.

  6. Lizzy says:

Now he just needs a wee sweater with flames on it – it’ll make him look so much faster!

  7. Hon Glad says:

Ha, I laugh at your puny weapons little human.

  8. victoreia says:

I hope they don’t actually do crash tests; flop tests, on the other hand…

  9. maggie says:

Seconding sue: that is dangerous for a bunny. The door is the same thing; should be covered so there’s no bad accident.

    Like so: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mvo168/5017603817/

  10. Please make sure the heat isn’t set too high!

  11. dawnkeyotie says:

    @Lerrinus hare dryer. killin me.

In re. ultra-Aerodynamic bunny-poos…. Kar has hit the same logic as happened for me.

That advert is exactly what came to my mind IMMEDIATELY also!!
Perfect mood for a Friday night item.

And since some folks ’round heah
have been known, tuh call me thu Research Kid…

Here is the assessment by NewYork (not New Yorker) magazine about the concept and the success of the advert

    CLIENT: Maxell
    AGENCY: Scali, McCabe, Sloves, 1979
A sunglass-sporting badass is settled back, arms high on his chair, when a butler appears, producing a Maxell tape. “The usual, sir?” the butler asks. The high fidelity delivers, and our protagonist’s tie, hair, lamp, and glass of wine all blow back to “Ride of the Valkyries.” Classy, cool, and proto-eighties, the spot reinforced Maxell’s hi-fi brand message. “This is one of the best examples of hyperbole, both visually and sonically,” says Steve Novick, former vice-chairman of Grey Global Group

And here is the Youtube/ mo pix, of the advert!!!

    signed,
    love me some bunnies!!!

  13. @ Maggie LOL Cute door and bonus it is paper so bunny can have fun tearing it off.

  14. Nikki says:

Why oh why are they blow drying a bunny?!? Poor little thing, I wonder what kind of mess prompted the bath that prompted the dryer…

  15. 260Oakley says:

    Whatever blows your hare back.

  16. Joy says:

Nikki – if you got a very hairy pet, sometimes it’s necessary to gently blow-dry them after a bath or it will take forever for the hair to dry. Try washing a chinchilla – it’s a handful.
This bun is very cute and clearly being primped for the weekend.

  17. Gigi says:

    Bun with the wind.

  18. Art D. says:

You seem to have had in increase in bunny-posts of late; we approve.

  19. Jimbeaux says:

I can almost hear the bunneh saying “Whooosh!” and pretending it’s part of Bunway Airlines!

  20. Leilani says:

Oh no! Night of the crash-test bunnies! (thx to Gary Larson…)

  21. Gloomygrrl says:

I can’t even begin to tell you how much violence would be heaped upon me should I ever try that (again) with my Lionhead!

  22. mamabear says:

Hear, hear Art D. I too approve of the influx o’ bunnehs lately.

Someone who is good with that kinda thing seriously needs to photoshop the bunneh into the Maxell ad. You guys have a good eye (and memory)!

  23. Sar says:

oh dear, will someone please put a towel under this bunneh so his wee little feeties don’t get stuck!!!!!!!!!!!????

Anyways, I like the triangle litter pan! My bun used to use his as a bed though… :) I’d like to see how this bun looks after his blowout in all his floofy glory!

  24. chanpon says:

    Bunny wind-tunnel! :o

  25. Nikki says:

Meg and Co.: Pallina, Pixie and I give you 3 enhusiastic paws up for all of the bunny posts lately! (Though I am sure they are hoping I don’t get any bright ideas involving hairdryers from this picture…).

  26. MoonCatty says:

    Whoa!

Blow dryer test proves that tribbles are really fluffeh bunnehs!

  27. soxfan413 says:

Not being a bunneh-owner, I don’t understand what the problem is with the bun’s footing on the crate. The owner is right there to get him/her unstuck, right? And it looks like there’s plenty of space so the bun’s foot would likely not get stuck in the first place… sure it would be comfier for the bun to have something else to stand on and that’s certainly what I’d do, but I see no danger, really. Am I missing something? Honest question.
I do love this pic! And bunnehs!

  28. Lucy Loup-Garou says:

I don’t think that bunneh is really standing on top of the cage. Look closely and apply your knowledge of bunnytoes.

  29. birdcage says:

I blow-dry my parrot after his baff times. He lugs it!!!!

  30. Akhuna says:

@soxfan: The bunny’s foot could slip when she moves, and get stuck between the bars – which would not seem a too big problem – if bunny’s wouldnt panick so easily and try to struggle out. That can result in anything from a broken leg to heart attack. Even if the owner is right next to it – panicky bunnies are so quick and hectic that you were most likely not able to prevent any damage. Sad but true – happened to my very first bunny back when i was little. She hopped into her cage, got stuck with her hind leg and broke it. That’s why that door coverage is a very clever idea. She survived the accident, btw, but had to wear a cast for weeks.

    Yours,
    Akhuna

  31. Poor little feets.

  32. Solanum says:

Oh no, look at his poor little feetsies.
Bunnies aren’t birds, they don’t like to perch on wire.

  33. dub1 says:

    Go-faster ears!

  34. MoonCatty says:

Bunneh is strategically placing footsies through the cage wire to lock in place so’s the wind blast won’t send the fluffeh flying!

(Spacing between the wire cage is plenty big enough so footsies don’t get stuck, those little feet are actually narrower than they look. Remember 50% of fluffeh bunneh mass is floofiness! ;-) )

  35. O NO He/She/It DI-unt!!!! says:

    in reading from MoonCatty:

“50% of fluffeh bunneh mass is floofiness!”

    Signed,
    “YAY”

  36. warrior rabbit says:

MoonCatty, try reasoning with a rabbit. It’s not a case of actually getting stuck but the perception and ensuing panic and thrashing. Akhuna is correct about the wire cage and its issues. Such cages have caused heartache for buns and bun slaves ’round the world. Fortunately it’s easily fixed, as Maggie noted above. Rabbit owners are resourceful and creative! I once made a cage from NIC cube panels.

  37. kathy says:

@ warrior rabbit – Agreed. I had two bunnies and one got her right front leg caught in the wires of a cage exactly like this one. It was so badly broken we had to put her down. We still have the second bunny, but we make sure not to spook him when he’s near or in his cage. We certainly don’t set him ON the cage. *sadness*

  38. O NO He/She/It DI-unt!!!! says:

massive quantities of luuurve & support to kathy @ # 39–

  39. Spirit says:

Man I wanted to comment on this adorable photo but comments are overpopulated by nuffers. :(

I want a wind tunnel bunneh.

  40. Stressfactor says:

The other possibility is that the bunny was not wet at all. It may have been a hot day and many brands of blow dryers can be set to blow cool air. In which case the owners could be trying to keep bun-bun cool on a hot day.

FTR hair dyers with a ‘cold’ setting are often what are used on sci-fi or fantasy films where you have actors and actresses in heavy masks, costumes or prosthetics. People will turn the airflow from the blow dryers into the costumes or masks as best they can to try to keep the actors inside from overheating and passing out. Somewhere, there is a very funny photo from the set of “Return of the Jedi” of one of the movie crew holding the end of a blow dryer up against the snout of a Gammorean Guard (one of the pig-looking guys) .

  41. jay1937 says:

    erm…shouty capitals, anyone?

(PS not a bunneh fan myself, but this one is quite cute and ‘awww’-inspiring-)

  42. janet2buns says:

There is going to be an explosion of untold kBd (kilobuns of disapproval) any second now. The bunnular fallout will render that area unfit for hoomin habitation for decades.

  43. soxfan413 says:

Thanks for the bunneh education, all you helpful ones! :)

  44. knot krisp says:

I literally just gasped and covered my mouth just now! The cute is overloading me!

  45. Marie says:

Blowdryers and shopvacs on reverse are commonly used to groom long-haired rabbits. It’s like brushing them and really fluffs them up, but they tend to hate it.

  46. kisekileia says:

I love all the cute cute bunnies here lately!

  47. Nico says:

I want this one for my desktop wallpaper. Too cute!

  48. Marie says:

I forgot to mention: If you try to do this to your rabbit (god help you) THE AIR MUST BE COLD

  49. Hillary says:

Please don’t EVER blow dry rabbits or small animals, it could cause their body temp to overheat, resulting in death. This happened to a friend of mine, and I have owned lots of bunnies. Please, don’t do this.
