    er…um….fuzzy….and…quixotic. Yeah, that’s it: Quixotic.

    Signed,
    “eez a Puzzlement”.

  2. Martha in Washington says:

    Jim Henson strikes again!

  3. WHAT THE HECK!

  4. Licensed to frill…

    Lurv eeeett!

  5. These are very very necessary. Where can I find one?

  6. fight for your right, boys!

  7. lol, what the hayle are those??

  8. Sasha St. Johns says:

These are gorgeous, show quality Japanese “Silkie Chickens”!!

  9. Chickens that look like rabbits that look like chickens

  10. Oh. My. Gosh. Those are redonkulous. I am flabbergasted. And they remind me of Fraggle Rock or the Labyrinth or some other Jim Henson puppet creation.

  11. Love the stance on the one on the left. Keep on Cluckin’.

  12. Bien sur! Japanese cornering the market on redonkable, as always. Agreed, these are very necessary, must bury nose in floof now…

  13. They’re spectacular! I’ve seen other fancy chickens but not these guys. They remind me of my first time seeing the Beatles!

BTW, are any of you COers fans of the Cheezecake sites? It’s been more than a week since I’ve been able to connect with their dog and cat sites. Anyone else having trouble, or is it time for me to visit the Geek Squad?

  14. Wow. I’m literally laughing out loud at the sheer ridiculousness of their existence.

    Why are they so funny!?!

  15. Fern go in and clear out cookies and temporary files on your internet options then reboot your computer that ought to do it.

If for some reason it does not work go to your all files then accessories, then tools then system restore and select a time when you were still able to access the web sites and follow the instructions. These are my two go to methods I use before I try anything else they almost always resolve any problem i am having. And they cost only my time. versus $100 bucks upfront no matter what.

Silkies are awesome.. I can not have them because they are the smaller hens and the hawks would just eat them… but I do have rhode island reds and Americanas and a sex link and a black bared or plymouth.

    Chicken are the best.

  16. These guys are from Dr. Seuss, right? I mean, we’ve all gone through a CO wormhole and are now living in that world, or something.

  17. KittyAdventures forgot to tell you that she has a chicken that PURRS!!!!

  18. Could we get a “Floof” tag, perhaps?

p.s. Fern, you saw the Beatles LIVE?

  19. Pat Trenner says:

    @skippymom:

Yeah, I’m showing my age, but proud to say I saw the Beatles live 3 times.

    [slinks back into casket]

  20. Wow, my comment looks kinda sarcastic after the purring skwerl post, but KA REALLY REALLY DOES have a chicken that purrs! I saw it when I went to visit her a couple of years ago!

  21. what a wonderful awesome-filled world we live in!

  22. @Fern/Pat: That is so awesome! My parents propped up baby me to watch them on Ed Sullivan (can’t say I remember it).

@brinnann: Yeah, big deal–I have a cat who clucks. Okay, not really.

  23. @skippymom & Brinnan… I have a refridgerator that clucks… yes, really!! like an annoyed hen, and I grew up on a farm, so I can verify the noise similarity. weird, but i kinda like it :)

  24. Fuzzy chickens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  25. @shygrrl74–Bury your nose in that floof and you’ll come away missing an eye, I think.

  26. LOL I do have one that purrs she is a rhode Island red… THE BEST HENS in the whole world in my opinion… they are smart(okay in terms of chickens) inquisative and affectionate.

they also lay about 1 egg per day unless it is too hot(100+ degress) or too cold below 32 then you get an egg every few days.

  27. Jacquilynne says:

I’m terrified of chickens (long story), but these are completely adorable.

  28. Themz iz sum cuh-razy byrds!

  29. fatgrammafinn says:

well, yes, i am spending my whole day booping floof BOOPBOOPBOOP

  30. Fleurdamour says:

I used to work at the Chase Manhattan Bank in NYC, and one day when I headed to lunch, I looked out towards the plaza around the building and the Beastie Boys were jumping around out there in red, yellow and blue fun fur suits, filming a promo. That’s one of my best NY stories.

  31. @ Kathy: Meh, I have two… : )

  32. fatgrammafinn says:

and, hoping i won’t be fired as a CO Peep, i must say that them are some funky chickens

  33. O NO He/She/It DI-unt!!! says:

    YAY Funky Chickens reference!!!

  34. bookmonstercats says:

    … and they see…… how?

I was once helping to put a trailer in a barn. A broody hen was nesting there on a bale of hay. She was purring.

  35. bookmonstercats says:

    .. a trailer INTO a barn….

  36. Love the spats. Jeeves would be so proud.

Or maybe he’d be affronted and appalled. I can’t remember if spats were acceptable gentlemen’s wear or not.

  37. Lol my husband’s sister had some of these chickens. Black ones and white ones. They’re very cute and very floofy, but still have that weird bird hard feathery thing going on from what I remember. So not great to snuggle up with but cute nonetheless.

  38. Once, many years ago, my family was on a long car trip with our two dogs in the back, and the dogs both started mooing. We stopped and let them out to “go to the bathroom” and this cured the situation. This is not a lie, this really happened.

  39. i laughed so hard with the text
those animals looks like a pokemon or something like that lol

  40. DaChickenLady says:

    Want!

  41. O NO He/She/It DI-unt!!! says:

skippymom: you didn’t clarify, whether you or any of your fellow humanoids had done any creative chemical experiments
(like, wow, man; like — really cosmic, man ;)) shortly prior
    to yer dogs “moo-ing”????

  42. KittyAdventures, I love that you love your egg-laying chickies. That’s so sweet!

  43. Why am I reminded of the Chicken Lady sketch from “Kids in the Hall”?

  44. I burst out laughing when I saw these guys. They’re so silly, I love them!

  45. O NO, I was about eight years old at the time of the mooing dogs incident, and was not at that time partaking of any mind-altering substances. I’ll have to ask my brother whether he remembers it. He would have been about five, and may well have been “on” goodness knows what, knowing him. But I know what I heard.

  46. EETS SO FLUFFEEEHHHHH!!

  47. O NO He/She/It DI-unt!!! says:

@ skippymom: all in silliness, y’unnerstan’. I meant no actual harm?

  48. Dear Leslie, please just try to relax. Nobody thought anything amiss, you silly girl.

  49. I NEED THEM

  50. Ok, stick some googly-eyes on these, and these would be Beaker from the Muppets. I can hear them all going “..meep meep meep meep…” right now.

  51. Sheekons!

  52. Whoa. WHOA!

I’m seeing Dr Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. But it’s funny how we’re all seeing Muppets.

  53. @O NO, you do understand that when I say “silly girl”, I mean “we all love you”, yes?

  54. O NO He/She/It DI-unt!!! says:

    @ skippymom: *whew*!!! ;)
    Thanks for dem reassurin’ woids!!!

    (Actually, I wasn’t horrified– however
I came up in a household of grouchy & critical brudders …Now at ages 48-55; I find, that they’re STILL grouchy & critical..So I enjoy trying to say silly things …yet am often skeered of the reeeee-sults!!)

  55. Queen of Dork says:

Wow! Those chickens are so cool looking! They look so soft.
Pat: How awesome that you saw the Beatles live! Also, I guffawed out loud at you “slinking back into your casket.” :)
kittyadventures, Brinnan and Wend: My cat makes a meow that sounds VERY much like a raven while he is waiting (impatiently) for me to get his food into his bowl.

  56. Can you all not see? Someone has finally created chocobos!! We can all go questing now!

  57. Anonymous Coward says:

now, how did they get these chikkins in jumpsuits, hmm?

i have seen people dress their cats and dogs, but chikkins?

(yes, i have seen “chicken run” and the star trek jokes at the end were priceless)

  58. Wait! I think you mean “Japanese SILLY chickens”!!!

  59. They totally look like chickens wearing snowsuits or fur coats! They’re set for the Russian winter or something.

  60. @Kittyadventures – thanks for the instructions. I’ll try them tomorrow when I’m really awake!

@Skippymom – no, not live, on Ed Sullivan. Congrats that you got to see them three times. These are the memories that keep our brains fresh no matter what’s happening to our bodies!

  61. @ Fern if you have troubles just holler on here and I will give more explicit details.

  62. @fleurdamour

    well, i’m impressed! lucky you!

  63. omgee what are those cutie pa tootie things?!?!

  64. They are not for real. Can’t be.
    Or are they?

  65. We’re the floofy girls and we can walk an bork and peck and scratch and hatch, natch.

  66. @ Fern – I was having problems with the site over the weekend but it seems to have self healed now

    abominable chickens???

  67. WHAT. ARE. THOSE. THINGS. AND WHERE CAN I GET ONE?

  68. chick in the middle looks like Big Bird

  69. O NO He/She/It DI-unt!!! says:

NOW I remember what these chikkens reminded me of …although I was unable to locate an image of the precise mental image I had…this (if the link cooperates?)will provide the basic idea:

  70. I reacted with a “Oh, the humanity!”-esque WHAT ARE THEY?!

No. Seriously. What sort of chickens are they?!

  71. Agree they look like muppets.

  72. Do they dance?

  73. Here you go (from Wikipedia):

The Silkie (sometimes spelled Silky) is a breed of chicken named for its unique, fluffy plumage, which is said to feel like silk. The breed has several other unusual qualities, such as dark blue flesh and bones, blue earlobes, and five toes on each foot (most chickens only have four). They are often exhibited in poultry shows, and come in several colors.

In addition to their distinctive physical characteristics, Silkies are well known for their calm, friendly temperament. Among the most docile of poultry, Silkies are considered an ideal pet. Hens are also exceptionally broody, and make good mothers. Though they are fair layers themselves, only laying about three eggs a week, they are commonly used to hatch eggs from other breeds and bird species.

  74. Wearing their puffy pants, here are the MC Nuggets filming their video for ‘Can’t Cluck This’!

  75. *screams like a star-struck teenager* Silkies!!! I wub you!! Lady Gaga is such a copycat!

  76. Silkies are the sweetest little feathery-footed chickens. My husband and I have had them for years, and adore them. They cluck and follow us around the yard, and lay the most adorably wee brown eggs that are low in cholesterol. We always kept our males away from the females, unless we wanted babies. The last two we had we named Ponyo, and Sosuke. Ponyo ended up being a rooster, and Sosuke a hen. Go figure. Love silkies!

  77. @vw-chan You made me smile. I will proceed to pass your quote on to my fellow nerd friends along with this picture. XD

  78. What a hoot!! Fragglerock!
This : During a press conference for their next studio album, the Beastie Boys vehemently deny being influenced by Lady Gaga…totally cracked me up.
I am sitting here in my cube, I am certain they all think I have lost it.

    @O NO He/She/It DI-unt!!! …creative chemical experiments…
Y’all are so funny!!! Thanks so much!!

  79. Five toes? How can anyone tell?

  80. Their little feetsies are AWESOME.

  81. Rhea, you can tell because Silkies can count to five. Other chickens can only count to four.

  82. I wonder how a chick of this breed looks… Picture anyone?

  83. O NO He/She/It DI-unt!!! says:

    @ mpls deb: :)

    Much obliged!!!

  84. The funniest thing I’ve ever seen is a Silkie rooster try and hatch a goose egg. The egg hatched and it wasn’t too long before the rooster was eye-level with his “son”.

  85. @rapwnzel
    Why, thank you. :)

  86. I had one of these as a houseguest. He made a discontented grumbling noise instead of chicken noises. I had to wear a cap when sitting and reading and listening to the stereo. He would jump up and perch on my head and listen along. Was also adept at jumping up a foot or so and nailing mosquitos and dusting behind the furniture. Trouble was, he was a chicken.

  87. O NO He/She/It DI-unt!!! says:

@ brinann: methinks you are tres clevaire!!! :)
(….”can count to five; other breeds”…..giggle!)

@ Heleen (# 82) (yo estoy public reference librarian) ….
I just spent quite awhile (and got rather mesmerized) trying to locate just one or two visuals/ Silkie/ Silky chicksof this breed ….much variance in images and for some reason my search didn’t initially end up limiting to fowl (?) …ANYhow….point being, that it was a little tougher than usual, to find an ideal one or two images with the detail of the legs and also chicks opposed to adults ….anyhow, here is a search result with numerous pix of which several *are* of baby silkies ….

This breed surely does do *glamour* well, don’t they? :)

    http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?p=silkie+chickens+chicks+images&ni=20&ei=utf-8&y=Search&fr=yhs-avg&xargs=0&pstart=1&b=61

  88. Peanut's mama says:

    THEY LOOK LIKE FRIGGIN MUPPETS!

  89. the only thing cuter than a Silkie chicken is a Silkie X frizzle bantam mix. Had a black one and several whites. Then the white ones crossed with the frizzle bantams and I got Sizzles. really funky looking. I love Silkies best though (and Buff Orps) and plan on getter some new ones in the spring. They are not good for free ranging, but are great mothers and go broody at an extremely young age.

  90. Photos of Silkies and their chicks can be found at Feathersite.com, a great site with beautiful photos! You can order Silkies through most of the larger hatcheries such as Ideal, and Murray McMurray, or look for a silkie breeder or association. For general poultry information, go to the forum “The Classroom”, at TheCoop.com. Chickens have tons of personality and are a joy to keep, but you need to know what you are doing. I’ve got 60 hens, and I’ll never buy store bought eggs again!

  91. @apeman250

    seriously, LOL!

  92. Glad to see my chickies are making it big! :D For more cuteness, check out Tulip (the one on the left), a couple months older … http://joangoesgreen.blogspot.com/2010/09/little-tulip.html

  93. They really do look like unholy Muppets. I’m glad I’m not alone in thinking that!

  94. Of course lady Gaga has nothing to do with this. Their influence has its root further back in time. Listen to their new album with such hits as “I wanna hold your beak”, “Back in the barn”, “Paperback rooster”, “You’ve got to hide your worm away” and you’ll quickly understand where they got their influence.

  95. O NO He/She/It DI-unt!!! says:

    um….beatles, maybe???? ;)

  96. O NO He/She/It DI-unt!!! says:

    @ Juniper: WT ***** 60???

    Lovin’ yer life!!!!

  97. Joan Y 09.16.10 at 12:18 am – Wow – she’s grown into an aborable dustmop! Surely she’s now reached her maximum ‘fluffiness’?

  98. @ O NO He/She/It DI-unt!!!

Very, very grateful for your Excellent google-work! Now I can sleep :-)

  99. *yellow duckling says:* “His name is Mike D and he’s the Ladies Choice!”

  100. I think I saw these creatures in The Dark Crystal.

  101. spring fisk says:

I had this kind of chicken(Bantam Silkies) during my FFA days in High school. they are awesome and so cute. They lay little tinny Brown eggs.
