oh, the indignity of it all. sure that’s not a goggie in disguise? (all the same, the next longhair i get i will be training to do that from infancy (kittenhood?). i mostly wear black pants to work, and Kitty can shoot grey hair at me from 20 feet away!
It reminds me of my now departed Kurt, he used to like nothing better that good going over with the hose then a wrestle with it. You haven’t seen anything until you’ve seen a cat wrapped round a vacuum cleaner hose raking it with his back feet and the end stuck to his chin.
But then than vacuum cleaner failed and the one I replaced it with made a noise he didn’t like, and that was the end of that!
Ugh! Blocked video (darn office!). I’ll have to look at home.
Meantime…threadjack! As I was waiting for the elevator when I came back from lunch, I was looking at the TV they have in the lobby, and CNN was showing the clip of our little growly, table-clearing, pool pup from a few days ago!
This does not occur in my home. One cannot vacuum small parrots for very obvious reasons. Although 4 of them do go “BRRRRRRRRRRRR!” when the vacuum is on. . .or if someone is using a drill. Unless we are trying to film them. Then they stare stupidly at the camera.
I get down on my creaky human knees every night and pray that my long-haired cat will let me start vacuuming her. Nothin’ doin’. She runs and hides when I do the floors.
These cat-vacuuming vids always stun me. Not one of my cats would stick around for this. They have all headed for the hills the second the vacuum comes out of the closet.
Mr. Picky is also a hoover fraidy cat. I think he thinks it will eat him if it comes too close because he does that raise-the-hackles-sideways-jump thing when it comes out of its hiding place.
I tried this once with my dog but she almost broke the vaccuum lesson learned she didnt liked it lol had to return to the old good brush lol
love the video that cat loves it lol
My husband’s cat not only hates the vacuum cleaner, he starts hiding as soon as I get out the dust mop and broom to begin the floor-cleaning process. And if he happens to be in the vicinity when I turn “the monster” on, he literally caroms (sp?) off the walls to get away. I’m convinced he’s going to hurt himself one of these days. And I’ll laugh. Big weenie.
I had a cat that loved to be vaccumed! He was a rare one. Most don’t like it one bit.
My folk’s last cat, Bruce, hated them. I was once vaccuming the dining room and he was in the kitchen. Complete panic when he realized he had to go past the vaccum to get out! Leaped over it in full speed mode.
Around my place that particular traumatic event is known as “The Attack of the Vacuum Monster.” If I tried that with any cat I’ve ever had, there would be a much bigger mess to clear up (blood, cat poo, broken shards of whatever was in the neighborhood). Claude, my panophobic cat who lived to be over 21, actually found life got a little better when he lost most of his hearing. He would actually stay in the room when I vacuumed. Motorcycles and thunder were no longer problems, either.
That’s one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen! Wish we could do that with a couple of our cats who are major shedders! We once had a friend whose dog was terrified of the vacuum. He also loved to jump up and lay on the sofa. They started putting the vacuum on the sofa and that kept him off big time…until the day the neighbors had a new driveway poured using a cement mixer. When our friend came home, she found her pup curled up on the sofa as close to the vacuum as he could get. The “monster” had been replaced by a bigger one, and the vacuum as deterrent never worked again!
OK, I’ve never broken down and posted before but I’m gonna just for this.
My boycat loves to be vacuumed. There’s a video somewhere…
His sister hides under the bed when the noise comes (any noise, really). But she will sit inside the coiled-up hose when it’s not turned on.
My cat hated our old vaccums but _adores_ the new bagless horribly expensive one, with the “max” and “min” mode – the sound obviously is less awful than the other types. When I realised she wasn’t running away from it like usual, I popped it on “min”, took the end off, and gently ran it over her back. BinGOOOOO … she nearly turned herself into a pretzel asking for more. And I nearly herniated myself giggling.
Now when I vaccuum, she follows me around pathetically until I give in. She absolutely can’t get enough of it. I even do her tail on the maximum setting which is just hysterical.
I keep meaning to video it, with enormous caveats saying “HONESTLY nuffers, she really really loves this. She can walk away if she wants. That crawling motion is a cat in blissful senory overload. Can’t you hear the purring???”.
Note to any nuffers who MAY decided to pop in – it’s true. Some cats DO love being vaccuumed. With the correct type of vaccuum. Honest guv!!
All but one of my 6 cats are TERRIFIED of the vacuum, no way they’d let me do this! All I have to do is pull the vacuum out of the closet and cats scatter. I tell them ‘here comes the monster, better run!’
When I was a kid, my old deaf cat Morris loved NOTHING more than to be vacuumed with the upholstery brush. Since he couldn’t hear the whine, it was really just a nice purring vibration–he really dug it!
Almost any pet can be trained to tolerate and even love a vacuum brushing. it just takes a little work and patience. And since you can buy pet-grooming attachments for vacuums, presumably there are lots of fur-kids who like it!
Hmm. My cat has gone pretty much completely deaf (she’s 20) but still hides anywhere she can find to hide at even a glimpse of the vacuum. So, I use that as an excuse to hardly ever vacuum.. only for the sake of the kitteh.. not laziness, oh no.
That is HYSTERICAL. (My husband turned to me as we were watching and said “That is so something YOU would try.” Though, as he well knows, I prefer lint rolling our cats.)
How did they train there cat to like the vacuum ? I have four cats and that would work out great in the hair clean up plus the cat really liked it! If I could get my cats to like the vacuum it would help in clean up of the cat hair.
My cat is simultaneously afraid of/intrigued by the vacuum – her eyes get wide and her ears lie flat. She’ll follow me at a safe distance around the apartment, staring at the vacuum cleaner.
I also wonder if the hoover-loving kitties get “hickeys” under their fur!
Other than that, wouldn’t it be more productive to remove the wand altogether and just use the flexible hose with something like a brush attachment or a small upholstery attachment? The long wand and large floor attachment make guiding the vac little difficult.
My late Stinky (maine coon cat) use to loooove the vacuum. When I would get it out, he would come running and before I could get anything done, he would have to be first. Even when I finished with him, he would rub up against me and the vacuum.
He was such an odd Cat. I think he had MPD. He could go from Mr. Lover to, Garfield and then become psycho kitty. I sure miss him. :*(
My cat is terrified of the sucky monster. I think that’s how he sees it. I just bought a new one, and when I got it out of the box it was still disassembled and he came over and sniffed it, but once it was in it’s vacuum form, he ran and hid!
OK – so both my kitts run for the hills when they sense anyone even THINKING “vacuum”. But I do have one of those Homedics back massagers, one with those rotating head that are supposed to beat your muscles into submission…and my boy totally adores that. Soon as I turn it on, he appears from nowhere and jumps on the bed: “Do me, do me”. Go figger.
You’ve got to be more careful than that- the vacuum could seriously damage the cat’s eyes or ears in a split second. The pressure differential can pop the eardrum- I very nearly had that happen to me once. You need to put on the wider attachment and have your hand on the cat to make sure the hose stays away from its face.
Quite a few years ago Black & Decker had a column-sized magazine ad of user testimonials. One person wrote in and said that her cat was looking longlingly at the Dustbuster while she was using it, so she tried vacuuming her with it and she loved it! Ever since, the kitty would come running to be Dustbusted whenever her owner took it out. Haven’t tried it on my cats – maybe I should get one of those attachments and try it – but definitely not near the head!
hahaha – too funny – my cats would drop dead of sheer fright
however, when i was a kid we had a german shepard that my dad vacuumed as a puppy and created the vacuum monster – we could not vacuum w/out vacuuming duchess first…
now if i had only thought of that when my cats were kittens… dang…
what kind of cat is not afraid of a vacuum?? I mean, it’s like taking half your antibiotics – it creates a resistent, mutant strain. I fear that this cat is the beginning of a mutant strain of cats that do not fear our greatest weapon against them, the vacuum!
>>what kind of cat is not afraid of a vacuum?? I mean, it’s like taking half your antibiotics – it creates a resistent, mutant strain. I fear that this cat is the beginning of a mutant strain of cats that do not fear our greatest weapon against them, the vacuum!
not so loud! do you want to get us killed? call back from a safe line.
That looks like it feels really really good. My cat saw the vacuum and took off to hide under the bed. I wish all cats were that easy to groom and get rid of shedding fur.
Adorable and what a cute fat squishy face on the kitteh
My Aunt Doris told us this story years before she passed away She said she was staying at a relative’s house who had two cats When she started up the vacuum, one cat ran off but the other just laid on the floor Aunt Doris vacuumed the floor, vacuumed the cat, flipped the cat over, vacuumed its other side, and continued to vacuum the floor Two days later, when she was vacuuming, that cat ran up and flopped down in front of the vacuum like it wanted to be vacuumed again That cat rolled around like that cat as it was being vacuumed Aunt Doris said when she last heard from that relative that cat wanted to be vacuumed whenever the vacuum was operating
Love it! I was going to search youtube for evidence of this myself. All my kitties are normal and run for the hills when the vacuum comes out EXCEPT Bobette LaPeste who runs towards it and throws herself down to be vacuumed. I first use the round brush and vacuum all over, then I use the corner tool to get the hard to reach places under the chin and legs. She rolls around like crazy and follows the vacuum around for more. After I’m done vacuuming her I pet her and she feels so smooth and clean…wish my other kitties would go for it!
Hoovered Hair.
A cat brush with a vacuum attachment would make a fortune… PATENT PENDING!
That cat is enjoying it way more than she should . . .
So cute! X3
oh, the indignity of it all. sure that’s not a goggie in disguise? (all the same, the next longhair i get i will be training to do that from infancy (kittenhood?). i mostly wear black pants to work, and Kitty can shoot grey hair at me from 20 feet away!
Nature abhors a vacuum, but not cats apparently.
Nice hoover text.
@260
and she’s back!! with a stunning triple axle! oooh! ahhh!
In the next video, the cat asks the vacuum if she’d care to roomba.
Oakley scores again.
And I love it when that cat stretches out its front legs on the floor!
that is hilarious. that is one happy self confident cat! my scaredy cats generally run like and hide as soon as i turn on the vacuum.
i’ve often thought about shaving them all bald, i get so tired of cleaning up cat hair ALL. THE. TIME.
It reminds me of my now departed Kurt, he used to like nothing better that good going over with the hose then a wrestle with it. You haven’t seen anything until you’ve seen a cat wrapped round a vacuum cleaner hose raking it with his back feet and the end stuck to his chin.

1) NTM + hovertext = just slightly NSFW?
2) kitty could use a lesson in privacy tails?
3) and 2600: “Hoovertext” = YOU WIN FOR THE REST OF ETERNITY
This cat must be drugged. My boys scarper at the first note of the cleaner.
I wish I could do that to my cat – he’s deathly afraid of the vaccuum for no good reason and hides when I just bring it out, nevermind turning it on
Somehow feels too personal a moment! LOL
I was sort of wondering if anyone else had cats who reacted like the vacuum cleaner was some kind of Martian Tripod….
Kitty’s getting lie-purr-suction.
hahaha!
I know. That sucked.
Bwa hahaha!

that’s the first thing they learn on pet island.
I get down on my creaky human knees every night and pray that my long-haired cat will let me start vacuuming her. Nothin’ doin’. She runs and hides when I do the floors.
My cat would probably have a heart attack if I tried to do that to him lol.
I so wish I could vacuum my cat…

That kinda looks like Maru
Dana, I thought so too!

@ trinky dink & sharpy: are you both familiar with
the “Deliberate Noncompliance Policies of Michigan J. Frog??
@ONHSID: Ribbet!

@ Theresa: indeed, ma’am. Your point is well-taken!
Not only are my cats afraid of the vacuum cleaner but the are terrified of the dust mop or as it is known in my house “the big bad blue thing”!
Around my place that particular traumatic event is known as “The Attack of the Vacuum Monster.” If I tried that with any cat I’ve ever had, there would be a much bigger mess to clear up (blood, cat poo, broken shards of whatever was in the neighborhood). That vacuum is *such* a tease.
He looks like Maru’s overweight American cousin.
That’s one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen! Wish we could do that with a couple of our cats who are major shedders! We once had a friend whose dog was terrified of the vacuum. You know, one of those cordless vacuums would probably come in handy when you need to clean your car-pets.
Well, this video sucks!
OK, I’ve never broken down and posted before but I’m gonna just for this.

How much fuzz does a Dustbuster bust if a Dustbuster does bust fuzz.
Nice sleeves!
All but one of my 6 cats are TERRIFIED of the vacuum, no way they’d let me do this! All I have to do is pull the vacuum out of the closet and cats scatter. I tell them ‘here comes the monster, better run!’
i’ve had my cat for 11 years, this month.
this clip is crazy.
i wonder how this person found out their cat liked this.
When I was a kid, my old deaf cat Morris loved NOTHING more than to be vacuumed with the upholstery brush. Since he couldn’t hear the whine, it was really just a nice purring vibration–he really dug it!
Thats amazing!
@Infoaddict
With your vacuum set on “min”, it probably sounds like a large mommy cat purring and brushing your cat’s fur with its large tongue
My dog runs from the vacuum, but not from the lawn mower. Its as though he is saving one spot of long grass for himself that is not to be mowed!
Oh, so many lols…How much does that kitty love being hoovered? That is my ideal cat.
I did that to my cat once. He liked it until the mighty Dyson sucked up his tail…
@55, That clip…. was perfect.
But judging by the questionmark- curly qte tail… the kitty adores whomever they were heading for.
That pawthetic mew… those big grey eyes…. *swoon*
And back to our regularly scheduled cat-vac endorsement!
*sneaks back into her mouse hole*
Someone has thought of a cat vacuum:
http://tiny.cc/yt7ze
My cat would have a heart attack.
Careful that that thing doesn’t suck out an eyeball. I love it that he loves it so much!!
That is HYSTERICAL. (My husband turned to me as we were watching and said “That is so something YOU would try.” Though, as he well knows, I prefer lint rolling our cats.)

J – thanks to you and Flora for the lol…

I also wonder if the hoover-loving kitties get “hickeys” under their fur!
Haha……..my Weimaraner loooves being vacuumed. My now-deceased long-haired dog loved it too, though he’d bark at the actual vacuum.
Hazel does not care about the vacuum at all. I guess she doesn’t mind loud noises, because she’s not bothered by fireworks or thunder either.
ceejoe — You are very welcome. And I love your kitty pix!
Oooh, tease me with power tools.
Other than that, wouldn’t it be more productive to remove the wand altogether and just use the flexible hose with something like a brush attachment or a small upholstery attachment? The long wand and large floor attachment make guiding the vac little difficult.

MPD = Multiple Personality Disorder?
Mplsmom, sounds more like bipolar to me, which I sometimes think describes one of my kittehs – Sheba.
Or, ya know, maybe they’re just being cats. I mean, aren’t they ALL crazy? LOL
This is true Brinnann…perhaps we are the ones who are out of step eh?
I’m sure to them we are.
My vacuum is designed for houses with pets. It came with grooming attachments and is nice and quiet. I bet that feels good, and less hairballs too.
My cat is terrified of the sucky monster. I think that’s how he sees it. I just bought a new one, and when I got it out of the box it was still disassembled and he came over and sniffed it, but once it was in it’s vacuum form, he ran and hid!
the cat in this vid is awesome! maybe he gives lessons? not only does my cat hate being brushed, he is terrified of the vac.
OK – so both my kitts run for the hills when they sense anyone even THINKING “vacuum”. To @Infoaddict. Please tell me what the name and model is of your new vacuum cleaner. I will try anything!
Funny thing is that this cat looks so much like my Bacio, but he would rip me to shreds if I even tried this on him.
“It sucks, but kitty likes it.”
You can’t do that with a Dyson! I had to go buy a cheap vacuum just for my dog who loves this!
My Aunt Doris told us this story years before she passed away
She said she was staying at a relative’s house who had two cats
When she started up the vacuum, one cat ran off but the other just laid on the floor
Aunt Doris vacuumed the floor, vacuumed the cat, flipped the cat over, vacuumed its other side, and continued to vacuum the floor

Love the video! I had a cat who adored being hoovered like that!!
