Just Your Typical First Date Small Talk

“… oh, I totally agree: So-called ‘modern classical’ music is overrated. How about a kiss? I mean, sometimes I have to turn off the TV and the cell phone and just, you know, be. You wanna kiss? Running my own business, maybe traveling; that’s where I see myself in five years. So are we gonna kiss or what?”

You remember Marnie, don’t you?

  10. corianne says:

  33. NH says:

That just made my day, WEEEEEEEEEEE!

  34. Birdcage says:

Marnie’s house looks like my idea of paradise (parrotdise). My own sweet boid says “can I have a kiss?” too and it makes me giggle every time – now, do you think I can ever catch it on video camera to send in to CO? Nope. The red light on the camera must be transfixing – he withdraws instantly when the camera is on.

    PEEEEEK a boo.

  35. Kuki says:

so cute, love the weeee part ^_^

  36. Cassie says:

Umm…im comment number 14, the video…what is up with that other bird?

  37. Zippy says:

OMG, Marnie is such a scream, and such a sweet and cute boid! Love this and the original posting – I had to suppress loud chuckles to keep from disturbing my co-workers.

On the OCD side – while it’s cool they have their birds with them while they cook — what if a birdy, you know, erm, relieves him/herself, right there on the countertop? Just sayin’. :???:

  38. Jimbeaux says:

Hee! I had a really rough night last night, so this cute silliness is -exactly- what I needed to get me going this morning! Thanks a lot, CO!

  39. Amy says:

Lots of birds can be somewhat housebroken and to go only where they are trained. In this video, it looks like they might be preparing food for the birds? Or carrot cake.

  40. Biscuit Tin says:

Q: What did the oatmeal cookie say when the sugar cookie said “Hello”?
A: “Holy crap! A talking cookie!”

The look on the cockatiel’s face just made me think of that old, bad joke.

    Whee!

  41. pyrit says:

Oh OK, just one little peck.

  42. Mel says:

Cute cute cute! I’ve always been told that particular type of parrot isn’t overly smart or talkative. I guess ‘those people’ who know everything are WROOOONG! weeeeee!

  43. O NO He/She/It DI-unt!!!! says:

    Hey Theresa-

you’re right, Marnie Rules (after Maru of course)!!

My laptop computer was having an identity crisis last night & this morning I had to hike downtown/ busses, etc (blah blah) so I’m only now cataching up on 12
hours or so of CO-withdrawal!!! :(

    PG: Innnnnnnnterestingk. VEDDY interestingk.
    (I get the Marnie bit…the song….hmmmmmmmmmmmmm…….:) )

@ HG: I join you in shaking fist at the sky.

  44. O NO He/She/It DI-unt!!!! says:

@ PG: it was supposed to place a smiley face inside the paren’s; I musta spaced something wrong. SO the story of my life.

    sigh.

  45. fatgrammafinn says:

    McBickersons!

another old joke: He woke up grumpy… but he wishes she’d go back to bed.

My late nephew’s parrot Kairo, is a great mimic… would mimic Chloe the bloodhound, or my sister hollering “Chloe, shut up!”. Poor Chloe- never quite knew who the new “dog” was, or why my sister hollered at her when she wasn’t even barking. Interesting household.

  46. Rooanne says:

This is so kool, especially since I just read an older article on National Geographic about animal intelligence and how this one scientist in the 70′s (I believe) taught a parrot to speak and to actually understand language enough to distinguish between shapes and colors and things…. and was involved in training a ‘flock’ and would get impatient when they didn’t know the answers fast enough. the parrot lived to be 31.

    I want a boid.

  47. LisaL says:

YAY! Love Marnie so much! Such a cute little birdy!
I absolutely adore one video of him. He looks right at the woman behind the camera and says “I love you”. It makes me tear up every time I watch it.
It would’ve been cute if he had said it to the camera, but the fact that he actually looks at HER and says it *heart melts*

  48. Kristabelle says:

Cassie – birds, when bored, sick, in a bad situation, or really any stressful situation can start to pick their feathers. That’s why that cockatoo looks so bad. He’s been picking. First it’s a stress relief, then it’s a very hard habit to break. It’s very sad! Having birds is realllllllly hard work – especially with birds like cockatoos that get extremely attached to their owners and depend on them for love and interaction.

My cockatiel Lilah says, “KISS!” and a bunch of other stuff. It seems to me like Marnie is being a little aggressive with the cockatiel in that first video – putting his head higher and coming forward. It is awfully cute how he WHHHHEEEEEs though!

  49. Theresa says:

@fatgrammafinn, A friend has a parrot who likes to mess with the family dogs. Doggies go trot trot trot by the bird, and the bird pipes up and says “Wanna go out? Wanna go out?” and the dogs go nuts. ;)

@Rooanne, i think you’re talking about Alex the African Grey, and his faithful human, Dr. Irene Pepperberg:

I think Dr. Pepperberg was always a little frustrated at the conclusion that Alex was a “genius” parrot– the point she was trying to make was that birds are much smarter than we think, and that parrots are particularly smart birds.

  50. fatgrammafinn says:

i watched this video the first time at home, no speakers on that computer. try watching this with no sound, you get a whole other scenario. Now that i’m at work i have the whole crew wondering what’s going on back here behind the counter. (i have a really loud laugh)

  51. Megan T. says:

    I LOVE Marnie!

  52. pyrit says:

“Herlloo, birdy! Lerk at yer man, now me, now yer man, now me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped using seedy scented birdy warsh and switched to Old Spouse, he cud smell like he’s me. I’m on a hors d’oeuvre.”

  53. Theresa says:

    @Pyrit, awesome! LOL

  54. Emerson says:

Excellent video and caption…cockatiel: “Gee, it’s been great, really great! But you know…work tomorrow…check please…”

  55. O NO He/She/It DI-unt!!!! says:

    To Marnie:

“He’s just not that into you”. :(

    (giggle)

  56. MarnieFan says:

I think the human is chopping up food for the birdies on the counter. We feed our birds lots of veggies, rice, etc and there’s a lot of prep work involved.

  57. beautifulkittenfish says:

oi, he doesn’t want to KISS you humans, he just wants to pick the plaque off of your teeth!

bytheway, Marnie loving the bunny. Yeah, that got me. I am dead now.

  58. MikeD says:

“OK, so, like I picked you up, brought you flowers, spent a fortune on dinner and listened politely while you blabbered on all night about The Bachelorette.
Are we gonna suck face or what? I gotta get up and go to work tomorrow.”

  59. Bibbicus says:

Oh Marnie! You made my day!

My own birdie passed away in June and Marnie reminded me how much I love birds! He’s such a sweetie as are his other feathered buddies!

    More Marnie, please!

  60. kibblenibble says:

My little conure, Scout, could laugh like Popeye, and say “Ma,” “Hi,” “Hello,” (although it sounded more like, “Low”), “Love you,” ” What are you doing?” and “What do you think you’re doing?”
Whenever I left the room and was out of his sight, He’d say, “Ma? Ma? Ma?” until I’d say, “What?” Then he’d say, “What are you doing?” I’d have to tell him what I was doing, and then he’d repeat the entire routine over and over until I returned. Every morning for 20 years, he woke me up by saying, “Love you” in the sweetest voice. Watching Marnie makes me miss him so much. But although birds are so smart and wonderful, they are lots of work, and I always felt sad that Scout wasn’t free and flying around in the rain forest. Birds need a LOT of care and attention. It is obvious Marnie and company have a fabulous home, and that makes me glad. ♥

  61. O NO He/She/It DI-unt!!!! says:

kibblenibble: your mem’ries made me go “awwwwwwwwwwww” out loud.

Here’s one Hutt family bird companion experience. My uncle is a few minutes shy of maybe 90 yrs old and still doesn’t understand the concept of retiring ….
Anyway, he used to spend a lot of his energy with the volunteer fire dept @ Miami Fla and in his younger days (WWII) he was in the Navy so that gives you a sense of his personality. He had a green parrot (I would attempt a guess, that he was what they call an African Green) for years and years.

    U. Earl named that guy Gringo. When the phone in the house would ring, Gringo’s line was (insert a nasal noise like Popeye would make)
    “Eh, lady, whaddayawant?” :)

    all sarcastic …

  62. Cygnus says:

    Marnie!! :-)

He is t3h qte. And so is Mr. Pretty Bird :-)

  63. Minou says:

I don’t kiss on the first date, Marnie! Sheesh! Ce qu’il peut être entreprenant celui-là!

  64. robin says:

eeeeessssss cute! But cockatiels have softer beaks, and need to be protected from hardier parrots, just in case of harmful nippage and possible not so cute injury. Hope avian parents supervise interaction!

  65. Macy says:

    that birds funny weeh

  66. fatgrammafinn says:

i’ve been wracking my brains (what little i have) as to why watching this vid with the sound off looks sorta familiar… i went to youtube and found it…
papageno & papagena from “Amadeus” , though any version will do- two feathery things mock arguing

  67. Peachysticks says:

I love Marnie! Was looking forward to a new video and finally there it is! So sweet =)
