We Haven’t Painted Them Yet

Look what Esther B. spotted: “This is the new litter of Sadie the Dalmatian. She birthed eight puppies, six boys and two girls. The proud mommies, Kathy and Jamie, are very happy to have these adorable puppies in their home. And yes, a boy and girl will be named Pongo and Perdita.”

  3. Theresa says:

Aaaak, are they born like that, and get spots later? I never knew that!

  5. brinnann says:

Theresa, have you never seen 101 Dalmations?!

  6. jen says:

Four leetle fraycles on the schnozzle.

  7. brinnann says:

Are dalmations the only ones that do this?

  8. brinnann says:

    Well spotted, jen!

  10. brinnann says:

Didja know that in the original book Perdita is not the mother? There’s Pongo & Mrs. Pongo, and they discover Perdita (who I think lost her pups) and bring her home to help nurse because Mrs. Pongo doesn’t have enough milk.

  11. brinnann says:

*sigh* I’m afraid my puns are not up to 260O level.

  12. Ohhh spot on! :)

  13. StormCat says:

I never knew that they get those beautiful spots later!! Wow! I love Mom’s look in the 2nd pic… She’s all like “Yes, they’re cute, but we ARE trying to nap here…”

  15. tracylee says:

    what a lovely mamma/babies pic for #2!

I’d frame that and hang it in my office if I wouldn’t get funny looks for having pictures of dogs I don’t know on my desk.
sigh. leetle tongue in #3 slays me. slays me, I say.

Squee squee a thousand times squee, full of all sorts of win.
Mums look says you can look but don’t try anything on.

  17. Naturalady says:

CO is wonderful and am thankful for all the joy found here. But 260Oakley’s brain is a spectacular wonder of unexpected delights. What a trip it would be to ride in that bus for a day.

  18. Kar says:

Wait, Perdy’s a nanny who breaks up the marriage? Well, that shattered my memory of those movies.

That second pic is so adorable. I love mom’s constant touching of her babies.

PS – Is anyone else hearing the chorus from “See My Vest?”

  19. brinnann says:

Kar, I think it’s more like a polyamorous relationship. :?

I guess you could call her a wet-nurse. Isn’t that what the rich peeps did back in the old days because they couldn’t be bothered to breast-feed their own children?

  20. brinnann says:

Wow, I was so sure that comment was gonna go into moderation with that combo of keywords.

    • Sharpy says:

      @brinnann

      >>Wow, I was so sure that comment was gonna go into moderation with that combo of keywords.

i know! how’d you do that?!

  21. BB/VA says:

Brinnann is right – Perdita is a foundling and liver-spotted to boot. Her pups had been taken away from her and she got lost trying to find them. Mrs. Dearly found her and brought her home to help Missis feed the pups.

At the end of the book, Perdita’s husband, Prince appears – he is the actual 101th Dalmatian.

  22. BB/VA says:

Missis didn’t have quite enough…ummm….faucets for 15 pups. She needed Perdita’s help!

  23. 260Oakley says:

    @Naturalady
You are too kind, but service on the Oakley Brain bus is rather limited, as a I have a pun-track mind.

  24. brinnann says:

  25. brinnann says:

    BB/VA – I had forgotten about Perdita’s husband!

I haven’t seen any of the movie sequels, but I’ve been disappointed that none of them seem to be based on the real, written sequel, “The Starlight Barking ” – a very odd but beautiful book.
( One little tidbit from it- it’s revealed that the pup who is crazy about TV- a girl, in the book – is adopted by the Prime Minister ands end up being on TV on a regular basis !)

  29. CJ says:

“No spots! No spots at all! WHAT HORRIBLE LITTLE WHITE RATS!!”

  31. CJ says:

@Kar OMG I LOVE THAT SIMPSONS EPISODE. So much Disney awesome.

  32. BB/VA says:

@Donna – thanks for the reminder – I couldn’t remember the title. It is a rather strange but interesting book.

I am not sure who adopted who in the Cadpig/PM relationship – I seem to remember that she was pretty insistent about getting herself adopted. She was supposed to have been responsible for him getting quite a few votes.

  33. Brandi7920 says:

I thought they were piggles at first! /gasp Interspecies snorgles .. scrolls down .. OH!!! Teh are puppehs!!! /melt

  34. Lee says:

Keep Cruella de Villa away from the pups…

    Keep the primer on….

  35. Marlene says:

Isn’t it a little incestuous to name a brother and sister Pongo and Perdita? (If you go by the movies that is.)

    Hee.

  36. Carey Ann says:

260Oakley for the win — AGAIN!!!!! I can’t even follow y’all up with anything!!! ;)

  37. Adorable. What a sweet looking mom!

  38. Donna says:

One more spoiler for the book : Not only does Perdita find her husband, but a group of the rescued puppies turns out to be the litter that was taken away from her.

  39. skippymom says:

I just love the word “meelks”. Just this morning before leaving the house, I reminded myself, out loud, that I need to stop on the way home and buy meelks. It’s a word that makes me happy.

  40. nads says:

  43. Poohbear says:

  44. Poohbear says:

  45. AuntieMame says:

I came in here all set to correct the departures from the canon (the book), but I see you guys have beat me to it.

So I’ll just quote my favorite exchange from the Glenn Close version.

Cruella de Ville: What kind of sycophant are you?!

Frederick: Er…what kind of sycophant would you like me to be?

    Bwahahaha!

  46. N. Fritz says:

And Lipizzaner horses (the white dancing Viennese ones) are born black!

  47. Zeki says:

    “What horrible little white rats!”

    Puppehs. <3

  48. AuntieMame says:

Can we please tone down the moderation filter!?

  49. Kathy says:

Beyond precious. I can almost smell the puppy breath through the monitor!

  50. RR says:

Um, in the second pic, does 1 toe bean = 1 baby head?????

  51. sunnymum says:

My heart has melted. Pic no. 1 – love how she has all of those bebehs in her little circle, everyone looks warm and cuddly and cared for. :) Sweetness.

  52. Minou says:

How can we blame Cruella vonTeufel for her madness? When you see so mush puppies and tender bellies and pink nozzles and pawsies, you yell: “Miiine! Waaaant! All of zem!”

  53. MamaLana says:

I love Mommy doggies so much! What darling pictures! Meelks LOL

  54. BB/VA says:

    @Donna – and Perdita’s litter pulled Cadpig’s cart, too.

And Lucky wasn’t named lucky because he nearly died – it was because his spots were in the shape of a horseshoe. Cadpig was the real runt of the litter.

It’s all coming back to me now. I really prefer the book to the movie.

  55. Brenda says:

*gasp* This is sooooo cute! They’re just so itty bitty! :)

  56. Lee says:

She looks like a good mom!

  57. Jenny says:

All right peeps, placing a hold on my library’s copy of The 101 Dalmations (the book) now! Fortunately, they’re used to my weird check-outs by now…

  58. Peanutcat says:

    Pic 3: PUPPEH BWEF!

  59. pyrit says:

Cruella’s going to really be mad when she finds out Perdita gave birth to white jellybeans.

  60. Curlygirl says:

Good Lord! These pictures are so cute and so SWEET they make my ovaries ache! What a happy mama!!

  61. nismo says:

How could you possibly resist holding those little pink paws?

  63. pyrit says:

Ack! Now I’m caught in the sticky, tentacled clutches of the moderator.

  64. Meriweather says:

@Marlene — that’s why it’s better to go for the book! Pongo was quite firm about only seeing Perdita as a fond sister. They can find their Prince and Missus Pongo later in life!

  65. O NO He/She/It DI-unt!!!! says:

@ pyrit: I (ALmost literally) feel yer pain!!!????
I attempted to advocate, for 2600….but sharpy sed….”NONE SHALL PASS”

  68. Daphne Moss says:

Love the protective mamma paw and the little tocks w/tails in the first photo…nothing more adorable than kitty and dog mammas and how protective they are to their tiny little blind charges…

  69. Arv9y says:

@ONO Tho my name is Arvy, “there are those who call me Tim”.

  70. KittyMarthaPoo says:

The second picture is so beautiful, it should be used on Mother’s Day cards. What a wonderfully gentle, patient mother.

  71. blair says:

    WANT…to crawl in with them

  72. Mary (the first) says:

Ok, ‘scuse my ignorance, but are y’all saying that Dalmatians are born white (or mostly) and get spots later.. sort of like Siamese kittehs do??

  73. Illise says:

@Mary all the dalmatians are born white the spots will appear in short time but they all are born white, that why most of the dalmatians have hearing problems as most of the white animals

  74. Felicityanne says:

AT LAST! Three people who can actually SPELL ‘DalmatiAn’. Like the coast of DalmatiA, y’see? Not like ‘station’!

  75. Mary says:

EEEEEE THEY HAVE TINY NOSE SPECKLES.
I’m ko’d. Tiny tongue action!! So sweet.

  78. Julie says:

    So many pink parts!

  79. brinnann says:

Felicityanne: Thank you for pointing that out (srsly, I’m not nuffin’). I know I should’ve known that, but somehow I managed to misspell it anyway.

  80. brinnann says:

Wait, so I can post this without moderation:

Kar, I think it’s more like a polyamorous relationship.

I guess you could call her a wet-nurse. Isn’t that what the rich peeps did back in the old days because they couldn’t be bothered to breast-feed their own children?

But my post thanking Felicityanne for pointing out that I’d misspelled “Dalmatian” goes to moderation?!

  81. brinnann says:

D’oh! Somehow I screwed up my italics!

  82. brinnann says:

Why is it still posting in italics?!?!?!?

  83. Brooke says:

I hope they decide to spay her now. This world doesn’t need any more puppies. Very irresponsible.

  84. violet says:

I need me another Dalmatian. I miss my boy Freckles. He was my best dog and a true gentleman, who had eyes for nobody but me. Sigh

  85. brinnann says:

 GAH! The posts below mine are in italics! Is it just on my computer that I’m seeing it that way?! WTF?

  86. BB/VA says:

    @ brinnann – I’m seeing them too. Let’s see how mine looks….

  87. BB/VA says:

@ brinnann – I think you started something

  88. brinnann says:

 OMG I broke the intertubes!

  89. (The Original) Mel says:

  95. brinnann says:

  96. Joxh says:

  97. Esther B says:

At least I didn’t say “ya’ll”…and I’m not even southern..I just live in NC..sorry. Lets concentrate on the cuteness, shall we?

  98. Richard says:

The title is so appropriate for Pablo, our dalmatian, who was part of our family for 15 years. When we went to look at the puppies the mother’s owners had used different coloured finger-nail polish to identify individual puppies. In this way we could pick our puppies and still know him after the weening period was completed.

  99. Richard says:

I had to post this comment just so I could be the 101 Dalmantian lover. We called our pup Pablo beacuse the children didn’t think Red would have been appropiate…

  100. Medoggy says:

aww my cuz has a dog like that did you adopt it? SOOOOOOOO CUTE!!!!!
