  29. wuyizidi says:

    @AuntieMame – that’s from Glee, a show I cannot recommend highly enough.

Here’s why I love it: I know a lot of people my age who grew up during the music scenes of 80’s and early 90’s, where all types of new music became popularized: new wave, metal, rap, glam rock, alternative… Even the pop music category was exciting (Michael Jackson, Madonna, Police, U2, …) Then we basically stopped listening to radio. It seems the creative energies have ebbed. We don’t like the two main types of music being played: what hip hop had become, and the heavily produced pop acts (eg. Britney Spears). It’s sad when Green Day was the premier big act (as opposed to say Guns N’ Roses).

So when I first heard about Glee, I thought, ‘great, they made high school musical into a TV show’. But when I saw it, I was blown away. Remember how in the old movies where people just suddenly went into song and dance, how silly it looks now? This is the latest evolution of that, where they don’t just work the music seamlessly into the story, but music itself plays an vital role in how the young characters work out the issues large and small they’re facing in a very dramatic time in their lives.

It reminds me why we loved music, why music is important. It puts us in touch again with the intense feelings those music invoked. And unlike much of what’s popular on TV, it’s not cynical and cautious, it’s not ironic, but earnest and genuine as in ‘I take life seriously enough to want to do my best and make the best out of it’.

Most of what they use on the show are pop music from 80’s, 90’s, and present day. But when performed by these kids, it’s fresh. Now I’m a huge fan of remixes. It’s so surprising what different people can bring to a song that is so familiar, that you think you know The One True Way it should be sung…

    Hi Theresa & QoD!!
Theresa — I just browsed some CO columns from earlier this year and you had linked up the 4 Yorkshiremen (or some such MPython skit) and mentioned the guy who was *EVICTED FROM* HIS hole-in-the-ground …. and I just wanted you to know that your previous post had me busting out laughing just a few minnits ago.

So THANKS for your awesome powers of reference & linkage & M Python appreciation!!!

  33. O NO He/She/It DI-unt!!! says:

PS @ HonGlad: you’re knocking on Snoop Dogg’s dialogue, theah!!!

    “For schnizzle”

    (I THINK that’s the correct term??;) )

[...not really. But don't worry about it; only Snoop Dogg talks that way anymore, and then only when Stephen Colbert asks him to. ;) - Ed.]

  34. Ed – Is it you Teho?

[Yes, for the moment. A little rare free time this morning. :) - Ed.]

  35. Queen of Dork says:

Hi Hon Glad! Hi Theo! :) (yay!)

    [Hidey hey. :D - Ed.]

  36. When I saw this pic, I literally started screaming and scared the cat.

Hungry now for cinnamon buns, for some reasons…

  37. Hey! That is my sweet boy Leonard peeking in on the left! Ed is one great guy and a fantastic Bulldogge first dad. We love the Pelto puppies!

  40. Nottin says luvin like nubbins from a Pelto pup..

  41. Soooo many things I love about this post! The triple chub, the talios, the missing brown face patch on the pupster in the middle, the GLEE references, the Pokey Little Puppy reference–that was my very favorite book when I was a puppy myself–and Theresa’s and QofD’s redonk dueling videos. But MOST of all, the rare sighting of the elusive, and much missed Theo!! Yay!! :)

  42. Puppies have the cutest little tuchas’.

  43. Okay, I must be on CO’s official “watch list”–every post I submit goes into Awaiting Moderation status. Wondering why…it’s not like I’m trying to smuggle puppies and kittens on board an aircraft for crying out loud! Halp!

[No worries. We still got ya. - Ed.]

  46. thats so cuteeeeeeeeeeee so chuby gotta love bulldogs butts lol
and the glee thing just made it better lol

  47. kibblenibble says:

O NO: I watched that one, too. I LOVE Savion Glover! I took a couple of beginning tap classes at my community college about 15 years ago, but never developed much skill. However, I have a recurring dream that I can tap dance really, really well. It feels so great, and then I wake up. :-( I wonder what that’s about?

  48. Queen of Dork says:

kibblenibble: Wow. What an interesting dream. I wonder what your brain is trying to tell you? That’s quite a cool dream. I’ll bet it means something fantastic about you!

  49. O NO He/She/It DI-unt!!!!! says:

    Hola Q & kibblenibble!!

kn — p’raps yer mind feels that you want to take it (or something along those lines) up again & play with your abilities??? Y’know…see what the local Y or community college offerings, offer? :)

    M. Glover wuz sew impressive. Wut I luv is that he is always doing phenomenally difficult mooooves, yet, he has this mellow, slightly amused look on his face, as though he’s just doing something like playing on a Slip’n’slide. NOT even a tiny smidgeon of conceit in that man.

  50. flutterbye says:

    Awesome tock ‘n’ roll akshun!

  51. I hate when people break into song, so musicals really annoy me. However, I would certainly make an exception and pay some good money to see these little puppy butts in any chorus line.

  52. kibblenibble says:

O NO and Queen: According to on-line dream interpretation, to dream of dancing signifies a need for creativity, self expression or communication. Those are things that were once in abundance in my life, but that I currently lack. This inspires me to get them back! Thanks! :-)

  53. Queen of Dork says:

kibblenibble: Okay. I know this is not on topic and I apologize to everyone who doesn’t like that in advance. Please skip over this comment if you don’t want to read me blabbing. kibblenibble, I sometimes have dreams where I can hover. I’m not flying but kind of moving my arms and legs in a way that I can levitate myself and hover. These dreams are SO realistic when I have them. I looked up what that means and it means that I’m very, very determined…which is true! And the time that I was having that dream ALOT I was going through some crap which I was hell bound to overcome! And I did! :)

    (End of thread grab. Sorry)

  54. QoD and ONHSID, I love Savion, too. I remember when he was just a kid, and he would dance in the subway.

  55. Queen of Dork says:

*waves and smiles* Hi Theresa! :)

  56. kibblenibble says:

Queen: I’m glad you overcame the bad stuff. I sometimes hover in my dreams as well, and I also have a lot of determination, but I didn’t know that is what that meant! I think dream interpretation is so interesting, and it usually makes sense in my life.

  57. Bettie Jean says:

Just wanna grab those puppy butts and nosh! Want to bite the hineys!

  58. Little beauties !!!

  59. Queen of Dork says:

kibblenibble: I agree. It is very, very interesting and often quite relevant.

  60. @Theresa, speaking of Savion Glover as a kid, did you happen to see him way back in the day when he starred in Bring in Da Noise on Broadway? Astonishing. He is otherworldly when he dances.

@Kibble, I took tap and jazz with Gene Kelly’s brother Fred Kelly when I was growing up in N.J. I loved it! The photos of my recitals from back then are hilarious. I tapped all. the. time. Drove my parents nuts. (But I did perfect my “jazz hands”! ha.) John Travolta studied there a few years before me and Fred practically had a shrine set up to him, pictures of him everywhere–this was right around the time that Saturday Night Fever came out and the dance studio was so proud. All of us used to dream that we would follow in his dance shoes and make it big… Alas, the only thing I tap these days are my computer keys…

  61. Ali-baba says:

Such adorableness should be illegal! :-)
That little guy on the side is all..”But I don’t DO tan!”

  62. All of a sudden I have an urge for a Krispy Kreme! (erm…make that 3 Krispy Kremes)

  63. Teho, {{{{{HUG}}}}} In case you hadn’t figured it out by now, we miss you! Glad you got to pop in.

Love those puppy butts, they are cute to the nth degree (what does that mean? I’ve been saying it for a zillion years since I was a kid without knowing what it means!)

Theresa, you have awesome skills. I love all the videos and your references.

QoD – thank you for explaining the hover dreams. They’ve been going on for over a year and now I know why!

  64. Queen / Kibblenibble. I too have the hover dreams. I seem to take a step up in the air then move round the room about two feet off the ground. As a child I tried to do this for real in the days of short trousers I fell and cut both knees.

  65. Totally hearing “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies” as I view this trifecta of delectable puppy-butt action.

  66. Melinda 08.08.10 at 4:52 pm I hate when people break into song, so musicals really annoy me.
