That’s pretty much how my grandma used to approach the remote too.
Chunk is the best name for a kitten I have ever heard of in my entire life.
ROFL, toypounce!
it’s a corgitty!
Don’t pawse me!
brave Chunk, teaching that vicious remote a lesson it will never forget
Where the heck is the Kitten Channel?
i think this needs a “stubbular” tag too…
The problem is, if he hits it the wrong way it’ll stay on “Jersey Shore” FOREVER.
I am completely on Chunk’s side. I just wish he could show my BF how truly horrible remotes are. Kitten shows good taste in wanting to annihilate a device most grown men consider an appendage instead of a gross misuse of power. Hit it again, Chunk!
*sigh* The BF was not as impressed as I’d hoped with this video.
@blair–my first thought too! This is a cross between a Siamese and a Corgi!
I always pounce on the remote, when the Ads come on.
Is that a munchkin breed kitten?
And stop terrorizing that kitten with the remote! He needs cuddling instantly!
I hope to heck that baby was not bred that way. I know Munchkins are healthy, but it still torques my jaw to see bad genes proliferated in the name of “fashion”.
That is one beeyooteeful kitten.
We had a kitten named Chunk when I was a kid. He was an orange tabby and he was the fattest of the litter.
don’t mock the afflicted, peeps.. i am afraid of ‘motes, too….
Our cat had exactly the same reaction over our Comcast remote! Of course, she was out of her head on catnip at the time… but very much the same bat-bat-bat-bat!
is this a stubbular kitty? he looks like the kitten equivalent of a corgi, big ears and all!
I love cats more than anything but the Munchkins are just WRONG!!! Cats are meant to run and jump and play. Why do the people who have started this faux breed think it is okay to take that away?? Yes, they are cute but also an abomination of the feline species.
That kitty is more than remotely cute.
Pat, I agree.
iz not kitn – iz marshmellow
TUM: wut u sed uz twue. KYOOT KITTEEE
(oops) “IZ” twue, not “uz” twue!!!
Pat, one could say the same about dogs. We bred some breeds with short legs (dachshunds, corgis, etc.) for specific tasks–and they are perfectly happy. And you would know that if you’ve ever seen these short dogs running around at the park–they are fast, playful, and very happy. “Abomination” seems a bit hysterical!
I discovered our cat Oscar sitting in the stirs and staring intensely on the floor below him. When I got there, I realized it was that little wedge-thing that keeps doors open that had his attention. When I released it from the door, Oscar turned and run.
Took a second to get over my initial disappointment that, despite the title, there are no “remote-control bears” in this item. I did like how Chunk checked every few seconds to see if the remote was dead.
(O NO: “uz” vs. “iz”… who’d've known? Is there some sort of official reference somewhere on how to type in baby-talk?)
Hey it’s one thing to watch (and film) in amusement as the kitty bravely confronts his fear of technology, quite another to cover his toy with the Evil Remote of Doom, and even prod him with it! Scaring him like that could stunt his growth! (hey, wait a minute….)
i think that cats talk about us and our dadgum baby talk with contempt…i know i do. what an insult, rreally…
I am in love with Chunk. Sooo cute and brave!
Look at the Persian or the Sphynx cats, those are also product of breeding by humans but they’ve been around longer so nobody calls the abomination even if they sometimes have heath problems.
Humans have been breeding for favorite traits in their pets since some of them joined our ancestors around the camp fire in the caves, relax.
He gots some stubby legs for a kitteh
From the Wikipedia device:
FWIW … no special health issues have been discovered to be specific to the Munchkin breed, they love companionship and being handled, they’re healthy and playful, and despite the outcry X-rays have uncovered no joint or other skeletal issues. The more you know, and all that. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Munchkin_(cat)
Doggabone, I love you.
I hope Chunk’s owner get video of the little guy running. Munchkins have this cute bunny hop when they run.
And when they run it’s like watching a fluffy little bullet train. Them fuzzballs be fast!
Cute kitty action. But thank you to Pat (opinion number 20) for the expression of a seemingly minority opinion. I see the Munchkins, and many engineered doggie breeds as well, (opinion number 26), as abominations of Mother Nature’s lovely world. I won’t even get into the misuse of specifically-bred dogs by those who insist on owning something like a high energy herding breed and wonder why it gets weird behaviors when kept in a house and small yard. Or insist on having heavy-coated cold-climate doggies and then having to cut their marvelous hair so the dogs can be almost comfortable in a hot climate. And Wikipedia is not a scientifically-vetted resource. I love Cute Overload and its mission to bring us the finest sqee-gy moments, and I love that we can express reactions, feelings, and opinions here too.
@Kevin – I was looking forward to remote control bears too!!
I love the way kitty pounces on his toy – ‘oh good, this I can attack’.
LOL I love the cautious approach… hey what is that thing poke poke.. hmmm it might be dangerous poke poke… eeek it is coming after me Run Away!!!!!
wait it is not running after me
Poke Poke.
as to munchkins well all I can say is stubbular!
OMG its a kitteh w stubbular little corgi-esque legs?!?!? SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Prodding the little kid with the remote to make him think it’s a scary monster will be less funny when he gets rid of the threat by dropping it in the toilet….
And for all the nuffers, check out some of the other Chunk videos. He is CLEARLY a healthy rolly polly buddah bellied floofball.
THE END
I agree with peanut’s mama. Kitteh spliced with corgi. Game ovah! *splort*
@ Laurie and Pat, I was going to tell you about Munchkins, but Doggabone beat me to it. My bestie has one and he is about 6 or 7 years old, and no health problems whatsoever. I also don’t like breeding for qualities that aren’t good for the animal’s health, but I think this is a natural trait and they are not bred to be that way. So you can enjoy the cuteness with a clear conscience:)
While he is very cute and seemingly the breed is healthy – it just looks awkward and I feel like he needs to be able to reach further (same with corgis and sausage dogs) – the proportions are just wrong. I’d hate to have hands at the end of my elbows…We need to think more about the animals…there is no need for a munchkin cat really…
Due to whatever personal hangup, I do have an “um.” moment when I first see a Munchkin cat. But I have the same reaction when I see a stretched Siamese or a Sphynx, and that’s largely an aesthetic thing and I know it: I like my cats “cat shaped” and have a predetermined idea as to what that is. Yes, I am aware of the controversy over the genetics, but there are more appropriate places to get into that and I’ll use them when I’m of a mind to discuss it. I do have internet… obviously.
That said: this video gave me the giggles, and the kitten, regardless of breed-related hangups, is a cutie. He’s all, “Ackwhatisthatthing! *whap! whap!!* …is it dead yet?”
He IS a marshmallow. He also looks like me when certain technological items malfunction…
I do fine with some (/boast I can program a VCR… /boast ….if I have the manual in my lap, and a help number just in case the manual was outdated when it shipped). But my previous printer was a possessed beast from hell which started puking rivers of streaked paper one day like something out of The Exorcist, and I sure had a Chunk Moment THAT day…
Thanks for the info on the Munchkins. I’ve always wondered about them. (As the person of a Manx I know all about the genetic abnormalities. In fact, my vet was very happy to find out my kitteh was half alley cat. Evidently alley cat genes balance out the overbred ones.)
Cute little kitteh-get that big mean remote!
That MUST be a Garden State kitty, as everyone from Jersey LOATHES that show. (Those idiots aren’t even Jersey kids!) You go, little stubbular feline!
BTW, I’ve got a short-legged mutt, either by mutation or Bassett Hound Shepherd mix, we found him so we don’t really know, and either way, he can run circles around our pit-mixes and out-jump them as well.

If you want to see kittens going whap whap whap against alien technology, you must check out “Cats vs. Treadmill” (2:14 is priceless):
@Wuyizidi, and this classic:
@wuyizidi… I hehe’d so much, my dog did a like two-minute-baroo at me… that was hilarious!!!!
Theresa: I love that one! I’ve seen it before but the thought bubbles make it even more hilarious. Cats are so goofy. One time last year a black plastic bag was sitting in my daughter’s bedroom doorway. Sammie didn’t know what the heck it was and walked soooooooooo slowly over to it to investigate. I mean really slow motion. It took him minutes to cover the distance of maybe eight feet.
@QoD, I call that “Creepin’ Jesus” mode.
Oh! He certainly was doing some serious “creepin!”
Chunk sitting upright at length on his back legs while playing with his toy:
He waves his precious little paw very charmingly at the toy while sitting there.
Chunk chasing his tail repeatedly—and adorably:
Chunk is no Winston or Maru, but he is definitely a star in his own right.
That printer video reminds me–one of my cats learned to turn my printer on. I would wake up each morning (sometimes very, very early!) to the sound of printing. I finally had to unplug when I went to bed at night so she wouldn’t do that. Doing so broke her of the habit, so now she leaves it alone. But for about a week there she would print several pages each morning before I would wake up and make her stop.
Also with the printer video: I quite often want to do similar things to the scanner and fax machine at work when I try to scan/fax multiple page documents and the stupid things decide to grab several pages at once instead of one at I time. I want to keel theem! Die, stupid, not-working-right-office equipment! Die!
@QoD, do you ever play games with Sammie like the stupid “death wish” game I play with Dante? I stick my head out of the bed and stare at him, and he stares back, and I stare at him, and he stares back, and I stare at him, and he stares back, and suddenly he LAUNCHES straight at my face, and I take evasive action? I swear I do this just because his face looks progressively crazier and more and more hilarious through this process.
tblue: Munchkin/Ragdoll mix, that’s why the markings looked familiar! (Kitty Eyeliner.) And aww. “Tail! *glomp* …..Tail!! *glomp*”
wuyizidi – 2:14 Bahaha! Van: *tap* vest Tux: “AAAHHHH!!! ..Now back to what I was doing…” Van: “Whoa, little tense there, man?”
Theresa: can’t talk. laughing too hard.
@Teresa: thanks so much for the vid of cat with printer! Had me ROFL!
Working with difficult clients makes me want to lash out like that as well now and again!
That poor kitteh will be scarred for LIFE being forced to watch the drek that is “The Jersey Shore” – and the trauma of the remote control at the end of the vid is more torment for the baby! Run, Chunk – RUN!
CHUNK!! OMG that is the AWESOMEST name for a kitteh!
@Theresa: yours is even funnier. Think we see a pattern here, apparently all cats go through Russian Cosmonaut Basic Machine Repair class:
@Wuyizidi, I see once again Steve Bucsemi getting his just desserts.
why is that kitten so stubby? or, I guess, what breed is it? it looks like the Corgi of cats!
)
i hate remotes too — I approve of this.
Poor little guy; I hope he can have a good and safe life with his deformities! He seems very sweet.
I wonder if any remotes ever make a high-frequency noise that kittehs can hear? Looks like that might be the case. http://www.ideafinder.com/history/inventions/remotectl.htm Anyone know fer shure?
Video of Munchkin cat running.
Hmmm….
it’s alive! Jennifer Cisowski
Jennifer Cisowski thinks Twilight is lame!
Awwww I looked up Munchkins and they’re so cute! If it doesn’t hurt them or affect their quality of life, why not? If it means someone gets, keeps, and loves a cat, what’s wrong with that?
ok, i just wanted to say how on earth could somone think twilight is lame?!?!?!? it is awesome!!!!!!!!!! by the way, cute kitty! sssooo adorable!!!!!! and im with chunk, remotes are EVIL!!!
