Let’s Talk it Over at Dinner

Shirley, I don’t know what’s going on with us, but there just seems to be this…space between us.

Surely, they ingest, Jeanne.

  1. toehawk says:

    …and don’t call me Shirley.

  2. HopeGrows247 says:

    Lovin’ the hovertext as always!!!!

  3. 260Oakley says:

Caught between a rock and a tarred place, chipmunks are slowly driven nuts.

  4. chanpon says:

What the….are these chipmunks in a prison? Or perhaps at the foot of Mt. Doom?

  5. Squirrely, surely.

  6. Is the guy chipmunk’s name Ozzie?

  7. BStrange says:

Chanpon: “At the foot of Mount Doom”: Imagining them as Hobbitmunks now keeeeeeeling me. Also: Love the static cling tail in the foreground.

  8. Hon Glad says:

    Do you like gladiator movies.

  9. knittinkitten says:

Cuteeeeees! I loves the cheepmunks and wish them well on their quest up Mount Doom.

  10. I didn’t realize Mt. Doom had restrooms at the bottom.

  11. Snicker… Love the Hover text… Just love it.

  12. TrixandSam says:

@Hon Glad: said in your best Peter Graves voice I’m sure.

I’ve had my history with Chippies and a lot of it involved my shaking a fist at their backsides as they scamper off with my birdseed. Despite that, I lurve chipmunks. They’re beyond stinkin’ cute. Look at that tailio on the one in the foreground! {head explodes]

  13. Maybe HE’S the black oil sunflower seed spitter of late. That would explain distance b/t the two.

  14. With HUGE apologies to Sting/The Police:

    Everyone I know is hungry
And fud is so far away,
And my tummeh belongs to no one,
    So now sometimes I pray
Please take the space between us
And fill it up with noms.
    Take the space between us
And fill it up with noms.

Oh my dear you took my biscuit
    And ran so far away
Expecting me to watch you eat
    then scamper off to play.
How can I stuff the other cheek?
    It’s so empty and forlorn.
    I’ve been hungry
Since the day that I was born.

    Take the space between us
And fill it up with noms.
    Take the space between us
And fill it up with noms.

The fat monk in his garden
The thin monk at his gate
My dear you must be nomming
Eat up, and fill your plate.

    Take the space between us
And fill it up with noms.
    Take the space between us
And fill it up with noms.

Do I have to tell the story
    Of a thousand hungry days?
    Since we first met,
    It’s a big enough buffet
But it’s always me that ends up getting whet.

  15. FINALLY, we have a post on the synchronized chomping of noms!

Now my life is complete 😉

  16. AuntieMame says:

Wow, those Orcs don’t look very scary. I wonder why Frodo and Sam were making such a fuss about them?

  17. @Metz and The Police song

i don’t know that song, but reading it made me think that mrs. chip wrote it after seeing evidence of mr. chip’s extramarital dalliances…

    evidence of his dalliances

  18. It’s like they’re at the chipmunk wailing wall.

  19. cheeeeepmonks! squeeee!

  20. “Airplane” references FTW!

  21. Jennifer says:

Actually, they aren’t chipmiunks.. they’re Golden Mantled Ground Squirrels.

  22. Jennifer says:

..and I spelled chipmunks wrong.. nice.

  23. BStrange says:

*looks that up* O-ho! In that case, they are the perfect melding of cheepmonk and skwerl characteristics. ❤

  24. StormCat says:

Just how many sunflowers seeds does that leetle guy have IN there anyway???

I think Chipimunks and Squirrlys are sooooo qte!!! I love putting out deer corn for my leetle guys… ‘Course they then have to fight it out over the corn WITH the Deer… But it’s better than TV!!!

  25. chanpon says:

@cutestoftheweb – Where do you think all the orcs and uruk-hai go? :/ Just because you’re a disembodied dark lord or all-seeing eye doesn’t mean you have to live amongst filth.

  26. awww…

  27. @Chanpon – ha!! wow. you just hit both my dork and cute humor cells in one go.

  28. LOL The comment thread… HAve I mentioned lately how much I appreciate you peeps..

alsoo as to the chippie versus ground squirrel Identification Chippies have cheek stripes Ground squirrels do not.

  29. Great, now I haz 2 change mah song.

  30. The fat skwerl in his garden
The thin skwerl at his gate
My dear you must be hungry.
Eat up, and fill your plate.

  31. baileysgrandmom says:

I’m just blown away by the extreme depth of field in this photo…would the photog please take a bow and then explain how he/she did that?
Cute little varmints, in any case.

  32. Squirly says:

I can’t believe they accepted my picture!! YAY!

This is actually at the top of McKenzie Pass in Oregon, on highway 242. The highway is closed a good portion of the year, and this was the first time I was able to go up. There’s a cool stone observatory tower at the top (Dee Wright observatory, I think), but I spent most of my time interacting with these little guys. I loves me some chipmunks and squirrels!

  33. Squirly says:

Oh, and as to the depth of field: The camera did all the work. 🙂

  34. *Little RUSH quote popped into my head there*
Just between us, I think it’s time for us to recognize,
the differences we sometimes fear to show.
Just between us, I think it’s time for us to realize
The spaces in between, leave room, for you and I to grow.
