Wow, the 4-H Program on this Campus Must Really Be Hardcore

Says CurlygirlKathy: “I was walking through town in Northampton, MA and came across this sight. Only in a crazy town like Northampton would there be a place to park your cow while you go shopping!”

    Oh! He’s lovely! *want*

  2. Lucy Loup-Garou says:

She looks too young to be left alone. Please tell me she was only left long enough for someone to get her an orchard grass flavored ice cream at the Baskin Robbins located 4 yards away……

  3. 260Oakley says:

    Cyclists have great calves.

  4. Lucy Loup-Garou says:

Never mind, I’ll get her one…..er, where’s Northampton?

  5. Kavita says:

    sad, not cute

  6. Theresa says:

    @260Oakley, BAM!

Look at her pink nose (sigh). What a sweet, pretty little girl.

  7. Aquamarine says:

Lucy, me too! I was worried about the same thing. Haiku, anyone?

    mable left with bikes
    am i just a mode
    of transportation to you?

  8. Emmberrann says:

She’s really very dainty, for a cow.

  9. kzgz says:

it is cute but sad. baby cow! o submitter, did you pat this baby cow?

  10. Aquamarine says:

    d@mn it, that was wrong!!

    mable left with bikes
am i just a mode of trans
    portation to you?

  11. Coreo says:

Aww, she’s gorgeous! (Can’t see the back end, but I’m gonna go with _she_ for now.)

And I’m sure that a) she was contented to people-watch while her owners were gone, and b) that they were taking a bathroom break or running an errand. Hopefully it was quick; it doesn’t look like this was a sunny day, either.

It’s true: only in Northampton! Was people-watching at the new frozen-yogurt-from-local-milk place there the other night, and oh, the sea of diverse humanity I saw….

  12. Metz says:

    Creamcycle!

  13. cathgoof says:

Can I switch my bike for a calf please? That calf preferably. I don’t mind getting around slower if I’m being kept company by such a beautiful cow. Such pretty ears!

  14. O NO (he/she/or it) DI'UNT!!!!! says:

    “calf”…until he/she is a bit more mature…

Massachussetts (did I get the quantity of s’s and t’s correct?) is the location of one Northampton.

    awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww so kyoot

  15. 260Oakley says:

I believe tying your cow to a bike rack is considered a mooving violation.

  16. Not That Mike The Other Mike says:

Metz: If perchance you hear the distant sound of a hand slapping against a forehead, that will be me wishing I had thought of that. Or, to put it more efficiently: OMG WIN LOL.

  17. Aquamarine says:

hey O NO!!!! greetings from the emerald isle…..no shortage of cuteness here….feeding seagulls, helping get tiny sharks back in the water….okay, maybe not cute, but certainly wonderful…..

  18. Scigirl says:

Western Massachusetts is a very strong animal-rights, liberal area and Northampton is populated by people who would as soon gnaw off their own limbs than harm another living creature. Rest assured that this lovely little bovine is in absolutely no distress. Probably the only distress was during the 2-second intervals between each hug or treat tendered by a passerby…

  19. l says:

Hey, that’s not fair… why do people get to bring their dogs around shops but not cows. I feel a protest coming on.

  20. BStrange says:

Perhaps leetle calf’s caretaker is lactose intolerant?

This doesn’t really look all that strange to me, but then I once had to tie a dog to a newspaper rack, so… (Don’t look at me like that, I have digestive issues, they had a restroom, it was No Dogs Allowed and no one would stop to hold her. )

  21. hex haight says:

@bstrange, I’d have held her!!! I have held random strangers dogs on many many occassions, even if it makes me late for something. i’m hoping to be storing karma should one of my very very loved little felines ever run away from home. =)

  22. BStrange says:

    ….

Once had to tie a GOAT to a newspaper rack. Cripes, my Internal Editor must be on vacation.

  23. BStrange says:

Oh, and thanks, Hex. (For your reply AND for making me notice my goof!) :D

  24. Ding says:

@ 260Oakley: you are so awesome!

  25. sera says:

the puns in this post are priceless. including the hovertext.

  26. Metz says:

    aww shucks! T’wernt nuttin.

  27. Michelle says:

I live near Northampton and this doesn’t surprise me at all. Very nice animal loving place. I wish I were walking by so that I could give the little cow a hug and kiss! Love the knobby knees!

  28. 260Oakley says:

    @Ding
Thanks, but I’m going to concede defeat to Metz’s unherd of brilliance on this one.

  29. Nyrb says:

omg….where in NoHo? I was there this morning, but didn’t see this cute cow friend!

  30. biscuithead says:

    Is that Norman?!

  31. Ohhh She is a lovely lady…

  32. I don’t know about riding that little cow. Without handles, it must be hard to STEER!

Get it? STEER? I’m so glad I got that in before anyone else thought of it. Of course, the annoyed groans of all commenters made the entire Western Hemisphere vibrate just a bit.

    –bossgripes.com

  33. Bunnykitten says:

    whoa those bikes are HUGE

  34. I don’t think somebody parked this cow. I’m pretty sure it was a bike, but somebody’s fairy godmother came along and turned it into a cow. :)

  35. skippymom says:

Hang on a minute–people don’t really think somebody was RIDING this little calf around town? Um, like, no. No way. Unless it was, maybe, a 1-year-old child.

  36. hyura says:

aww, it has a little bell!!! i bet that’s a happy baby calf, devoid of any cynicism or bitterness.

  37. ceejoe says:

    @BStrange – so you were walking a goat? …

  38. Birdcage says:

Owner probably had to do some shoppin’ in a china shop.

  39. Poohbear says:

Anybody notice the new category ? bwahaha

  40. Brenda says:

THAT is funny! I’m sure it was staged, but well worth the laugh.

  41. Katiedid says:

I would steer clear of the person who sold you that ‘bike’ they were probably milking the deal by talking a lot of bull … poop.. just to get you to buy it…

  42. O NO (he/she/or it) DI'UNT!!!!! says:

    *waving across lots of water*

Hi, Aqua!!! If you can, go to Co. Killearn; the Irish Thoroughbred (Horse) Stud– it’s a GORGEOUS setting with beautiful animaux!!!

    Enjoy!!!

  43. Beccy says:

@ Scigir: Your Northampton sounds nicer than my Northampton (UK) :/

  44. Fallon says:

Awww, I wish I had been walking by and seen this. I would have stopped to give her a kiss and a hug!

  45. BStrange says:

    @ceejoe – Yep.

What? People keep PIGS as pets…

  46. Daphne Moss says:

    Adorable little calf…
Knows how to milk it for attention with those lashes and big eyes.

  47. Kyle says:

I’m pretty sure I saw that cow – she was at the Tuesday Farmer’s Market in Northampton and one of the farms had brought her to show her off. So cute! Couldn’t tell if she was with the dairy people or the meat people though!

  48. Rachael says:

Looks like the Steering Committee meeting has already started.

  49. O NO (he/she/or it) DI'UNT!!!!! says:

    @ BStrange:

don’t you mean “keep peegs as pets”????? ;)

  50. Metz says:

NOMTOM & Oakley, I am both flattered and bemoosed by your compliments. :-)
Ok it behooves me to point out that I am really not feeling all that humble right now, heh, I was going to go with the personal horn tooting and say, “You butter believe it”. But really I am beaming with silly pride (which is much better than the falling kind).

  51. Jewels says:

    @Kyle
That looks like a dairy cow breed, so I’m pretty sure it was with the milk people. :)

  52. kibblenibble says:

Poohbear, thanks for pointing out the new category. Very, clever, as usual, NOMTOM! BTW baby cows are just the prettiest things, aren’t they? I want to kees the white crescent on her temple. ♥

  53. Yes, Northampton knows how to party.

  54. Joy says:

I teach outside of Northampton frequently, and am right in the middle of farmland, so I’m not surprised this lovely little cow was spotted window-shopping. Not there is Northampton, but Easthampton, Southampton and Westhampton all co-existing. Lovely part of Massachusetts to visit.

  55. Heather and the Boston Terriers says:

    It’s a Guernsey on a Journey. :)

    I lub her. Squee~

  56. Space Cowgirl says:

    As a Texan, I approve.

  57. Nikki says:

    Catch of the Day: Cow.

  58. pyrit says:

Udderly cheesy puns! How cud you!

Maybe it’s a mooped? Some people prefer to hoof it, and moopeds are more manurevable.

  59. Lick says:

Yaayy northampton! I’ve lived here most of my life and I have to say I have never seen a cow downtown. Adorbs.

  60. LeeshaJoy says:

All I know about Northampton is that it’s where the webcomic Questionable Content takes place. Should we be blaming Pintsize for this?

  61. Theresa says:

    Steer?
    Horns?
    Calves?

    BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

  62. I wish I had something witty to add to this lengthy comment section, but it seems there have already been a variety of wit displayed. :-)

    With Love and Gratitude,

    The Intentional Sage

  63. Teresa says:

I grew up on a farm so I would of first checked to see if that calf was a boy or a girl :D before asking who left the little critter tied up like that :D Just say if the owner did not show up :D that calf would be heading for the family farm :D

  64. bookmonstercats says:

@Lucy Loup. Northamptonshire is a market town in England (natch. Obviously it’s full of mad dogs and English men, or more accurately mad English men and dogs but not a great deal of midday sun). I don’t think Baskin Robbins has arrived there yet – has it? Great place to live obviously.
@Aqua. I spent one of the happiest evenings of my whole life on the Emerald Isle many years back. I swam in a sea loch as the sun went down behind the mountains, in the clearest, coldest, water I have ever swum in – ok once you get your shoulders under. The sea was green, the mountains purple, the sky dark gold and blood red. Whenever I’m stressed I go back there in my head.

  65. mqlm546 says:

    Photo shop anyone?

  66. Saffron says:

Um, this calf is in MA, yet is not wearing a Sox or Patriots jersey??????

  67. shelle says:

eeeeee, is that a Jersey calf? I love how sweet she is. And how she looks rather befuddled.

I live right near Northampton, MA and it’s a lovely town. :)

  68. pyrit says:

OK, so someone stole your bike. Don’t have a cow, man.

  69. rsp2538 says:

    sad…

  70. Carla says:

    omg i want one *dead*

  71. Silent Meow says:

I absolutely love this adorable little calf! I wish I could take it home with me but I don’t think the landlord would be very happy about it.

  72. Emma says:

I grew up on a farm with cattle, and it’s hard to tell from a picture, but I don’t think the calf looks like it’s in distress. It also has enough rope to move out of the rack if it would like (I’d guess it was originally tied to the side of the rack and has walked into it while exploring).

I agree with Heather that it looks like it could be a Guernsey (doesn’t look like a Jersey to me)

  73. Lucy Loup-Garou says:

She doesn’t look distressed, but I agree she looks a bit befuddled – first trip to the village?

bookmonstercats, I suspect a lot places not yet christened with fast food chains are pleasant places to be :) – if indeed there are still “a lot”.

  74. Metz says:

@pyrit, someone stole their bike? Man that was low! ;-)

  75. Yes moi, Carla is not the only one who wants it “dead”.

  76. Wait… there’s a moderator???

  77. Brava97 says:

I go to Northampton for lunch and window shopping at least once a month, but I only ever see doggies. That? Would have killed me. Can you pet a calf? I would have been afraid of spooking it.

  78. sbarowsky says:

I was in Northampton yesterday, sadly no cute little baby cows, only rain, rain and more rain.

  79. Graciedodog says:

WERIOD! well maybe sbarowsky, you might of mised the cows or calfs because they were sitting down…

  80. Graciedodog says:

get it? if you dont then you are a wannabe!

  81. Spaceman Bill Leah says:

No one here in Chicago really believes I come from the boondocks. I need to print this out can carry it around. Ahh, Western Mass, how I do miss your weirdness sometimes.

  82. Carla says:

    @ patito
Uh that’s not what i meant…. I meant i fall over dead from cuteness. Go somewhere else.

  83. Paunchie says:

Pretty little cow! Aw. I want to pet her.

  84. Hon Glad says:

Noone was riding her, cos her handle bars ain’t grown yet

  85. penny says:

Once they’re grown, cows will pretty much ignore you unless it’s milking time. Baby bovines, on the other hand, are more tolerant of people and foolishness such as leashes and necklaces made of daisys and such. I know a couple hand-reared cows that are as friendly as dogs, although nowhere near as smart. This little beauty is adorable!

  86. sbarowsky says:

Graciedodog- A wannabe? Really? I’m perfectly aware that cows lay down when there is rain, if you were referring to something else then it completely went over my head and I have no idea what you were trying to say.

I love trips to Northampton, but would advise only getting pastries/cakes from the La Fiorentina in Spfld. as the ones in Northampton are frozen and sent there from the one on Main St. in Springfield (I recommend the chocolate cake with a filling of whipped cream and strawberries, yummy!)

  87. Laura says:

Ah, Northampton! Hippie Heaven! Why couldn’t this cutie have been there when I was visiting?

  88. pisica21 says:

    imi place

  89. sammy says:

    i love that cow
