Is that a Pac-Man frog? A co-worker of mine had one once. She said it tried to eat anything that moved.

Attention friends: I know I haven’t been around much lately – very busy at work and such – but I am pleased to announce that I HAVE ADOPTED A NEW MARMIE KITTEN. And….he’s a polydactyl!!!! Bertha has been mostly silent about it so far, but I am over the moon! There are photos on my facebook page.

His name is Catfish John and he is seven weeks old and a little terror.

  14. Katrina says:

What a pretty frog-have we ever had a frog on CO before? J. that’s a old wives’ tale and it is about toads….just sayin’.
    I love pollywogs!!!

  15. Nikki says:

Dr. BServ — Congratulations!!! Catfish John is a spectacular name.

As to this photo — WTF?!?

  16. Lucy's Mommeh says:

  17. KittehMamax3 says:

So, I guess you’re re-thinking having bbq’d frogs’ legs for dinner about now, aren’t ya???? Take THAT Bub….. hahahahahah

  18. Noelegy says:

    LOVE the name Catfish John!

And what kind of frog is that?? Never seen one so flamboyant!

I was watering my flower beds the other night. Both of them run in front of brick walls: one in front of my house and chimney, the other alongside my garage wall. When the water hit the brick facing of the garage wall, SCUTTLE! About half a dozen li’l lizardkin went everywhere. The biggest was about 5″ long and the smallest was barely more than an inch. I wish I’d had my camera handy.

  19. Wish says:

Noelegy, I think Bug Man is right, it looks like a Pacman frog to me: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ceratophrys

  24. gizmo says:

    Go ahead, pull my finger

  25. flutterbye says:

Oh, ha! He flipped the bird at Pacman and said BITE ME! Toad/froggie just obliged. Very obedient little sucker!

  26. flutterbye says:

    Oopsie, wrong finger!

  27. Dash says:

I love how the frog seems to be saying, “Soooooo… what do we do now? You can either give up the finger or go get a magazine ’cause I’m prepared to stay here all afternoon… Uh maybe you could point me toward the tv and put on Animal Planet?”

  28. Jess says:

It’s definitely a pac man frog! I have one named Ginyu. He is three and nearly the size of my fist. He eats crickets mostly, although sometimes i feed him a goldfish or a mouse. He has never bitten me, even when I move him to clean his cage. He is a really neat frog! They make cool pets if you don’t mind observing and cleaning without much interaction.

  29. Lucy's Mommeh says:

Oh.my.gawd. Dr. Berthaservant, the baby marmie is just adorables…I miss my marmie boys, Arthur & Merlin.
We currently have a polydactyl grey & white longhair, a shorthair black & white “cow cat”, and a calico. There’s a feral orange longhair outside I can’t get near. He allows me to feed him tho. I call him Opie.

  30. kibblenibble says:

Dr. Bserv, Catfish John is a love! Congrats. ♥

  31. Fern says:

Dr. B, I’m in love with your marmie. He’s so teeny and sweet. Of course, knowing kittens, he’s probably a handful when he’s awake. Still, how much trouble can one teeny guy get into, even if he does have extra toes! (Tongue firmly in cheek….)

  32. Theresa says:

    Whoa!!!!

@Dr Bserv, Catfish John made me squee my face off!!! You haven’t seen it around, have you? ;)

  33. Madame X says:

Dr. B, that is one adorable kitten – so tiny and soft!

May Catfish John live long and prosper… and may Miz Bertha make friends with him!

  34. Ujang Safei says:

the frog with fitness exercises with the exercise being hanged he would contest the ninja warrior!!

  35. Hon Glad says:

Yeaurrgh! I think you have to worry when you arm disappears down to the elbow.

Dr B – Catfish John looks a sweetie has Bertha batted him yet, or just adjusted her
    stays and harumphed.

  36. Mandy says:

It’s cute in one way, and freaks me out all at once. I don’t like frogs on me, that would have me screaming! Not sure why, must have had bad dreams or watched a scary movie involving frogs when I was a child…

  37. Elanor says:

Coming from one who has never been that up close and personal with any amphibian before… does that bite hurt? And frogs, do they have teeth?

  38. bookmonstercats says:

I want to be bitten by a froggie/toadie like that (unless he poisonous). Does anybody else think his hind legs look like the Wicked Witch of the West’s boots, but in technicolour?

@Dr BS, best wishes to Catfish John – what a name. May Bertha and he live long and prosper together (just realised Madame X got there before me on that one, but never mind)..

  39. Miriam says:

    It’s little arms are adorable!

  40. Mental Mouse says:

Wow, the colors on that guy!

  41. Paunchie says:

    EW! GAH!!

  42. dub1 says:

    To Elanor:
Some frogs have teeth in the roof of their mouths, but what hurts most is the grip they can get with their jaws, kinda like a flat-plate mousetrap: they grab and hold their prey before swallowing it whole (as illustrated above with an enquiring index finger in the name of Science). So if a giant frog blorps up to you and bets you a dollar you can do the lion-tamer’s trick with your head in his mouth, DON’T DO EEET!

  43. judyrb825 says:

Dr. Bserv. So glad you finally got your marmie. He looks adorable. Bertha will come around.

  44. LovesDogs says:

Ewwwww! It’s not cute and cuddly and furry.

  45. Thanks all. Bertha has been okay, actually…keeping her distance, but occasionally venturing close. Catfish John is a DOLL….he sleeps right next to my heart! I have to keep moving him because I am afraid I will squeesh him but so far so good!

  46. Elanor says:

Thanks dub1, appreciate your reply. I’ll be sure to stay away from blorpular froggies… Having my finger down a flat-plate mousetrap sounds painful. :-(

  47. Marie says:

    ponies? i dont get it.

  48. Jitter says:

    Airplane reference!

  49. Colonel Jenna says:

I’ve heard, “Never eat anything bigger than your head,” but this frog is the most optimistic creature I have ever seen. This could be an inspirational poster: “If Life gives you lemons, make lemonade. If Life flips you off — eat the flipping finger.”

  50. Roketto says:

@ Jess : Oh. My. God.

You have a frog. Named Ginyu.

Congrats, you have just won an Internet prize for awesomeness.

    Made this DBZ fan’s day.

  51. Cathy says:

Ow!!! I was bitten by a Pacman frog once (much bigger than this fellow) and it HURT!! It IS funny when it’s someone else though!

  52. Peter says:

I’m glad my pic made the site :) I don’t have any cute cuddly kitties or other fuzzies due to alergies, but my critters have their own moments of cuteness.

Stay tuned for when I can hopefully play dress-up hat-day with my crested geckos.
