  21. Sweeda88 says:

So cute! The fact that it looked like the floppage was in slow-mo was excellent! Special effects kitteh is special!

  22. JC says:

My call falls down when I put him in a sweater too. ;-) Are they being overly dramatic, or is there some leg paralyzing side effect of feline sweatering?

  23. Omg That kitty plays dead and rolls over.. Please note the vidographer saying Bang and the kitty flopping down,,, then in the final money shot when the kity rolls over and gets a plate of treats. I am in AWE!

  24. kasia says:

ok, can the owner of this cat PLEASE step forward and share a step-by-step guide on how to teach a cat to play dead and roll over (OMG!)

i tought my cat to sit before he gets food but that’s about it. i NEED to make him play dead too!!!!

  25. Kristabelle says:

  29. melissadesa says:

    SMOOOOSHY!

  30. Christabel says:

I was dying from the cute and then the mini kitty showed up and I about fell out of my chair.

  31. One Christmas, I got our kitty a teeney sweater at one of the discount stores as a liddol gift; after I opened the present for him, it is a monumental tribute to his good nature that he patiently let me put it on him: He was totally immobilized, just like he was in a strait-jacket…… even though it was so Funnee, I immediately removed it and never put it on him again…… RIP my sweetie Russhin Bloo

  32. shannomo says:

    Smushfaces makes me crazy!

  33. LisaL says:

    It’s like a muppet!!!
Simply adorable :D Wish I could train our cat to flop

  34. Noelegy says:

My Gabby kitteh does that flop over thing if you just put your arms up in the air like you’re raising the roof. We didn’t train her; she trained us.

  35. BenPanced says:

“Wait…is this the part where I’m supposed to fall over? Now? Now? Oh. Okay.” *flop*

  36. fosin says:

So bang means flash your junk to the camera?

  37. Mika says:

I’m so glad this was posted today and not tomorrow morning since I’m going for my twice-yearly blood test for diabetes. This sweet kitty would of really screwed the results! :-)

  38. hyura says:

    haha @fosin’s comment.

  39. Andi from NC says:

The itty bitty kitty in the dark sweatuew kills – he/she totally attempts a photobomb there at the end!

  40. Carrie says:

#24 – its called clicker training (notice the little click after the trick is performed). It tells a cat exactly what he he is doing right – think of the click as a camera, capturing the action. This is a bit advanced – my cat only knows “Sit”, “Touch”, “Up” (beg), and “Come” (if she feels like it). Go Google it, lots of sites and a great Yahoo! Group devoted to clicker training. Person who developed it is named Karen Pryor. Its so much fun, and actually very easy to do. Cats love knowing tricks :)

Also, my first thought: OMG Clicker Training!

  41. KittyMarthaPoo says:

OMG, the BAYBEE “Brimley” is even cuter than the BIG Brimley!

  42. edmundh says:

Hahaha sidekick cat is totally clueless of what’s going on – “Why are you rolling over? Why is food being thrown at us? What’s happening here?”

However sidekick cat is doing just fine in his/her role as boxcat.

  43. Lucy's Mommeh says:

I can point at Lucy & say “fall over”. She does. I’ll try to get video of it!

  44. Nikki says:

So great. I love the little brimley-in-training sidekick, the mickey mouse sweater, the ridiculous throw rug and just about everything else about this video! :)

  45. Hon Glad says:

I wouldn’t have the effrontery to attempt to train my two.
We are currently engaged in the “you will eat that food, it was very expensive and
smells lovely” battle. No prizes for guessing who’s winning.
Now where did I put that white flag?

  46. LiAnn says:

What kind of cat is that!

  47. Thank you, Meg. I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time and after the lousy day I had, I needed it. Bang!

  48. Buy Spanish Content says:

Increases sweetness, but also kinda increases nausea too…lol

  49. Lindie says:

My own precious persian moosh face just decides to fall over like that & purr for the heck of it…we call it her “slut pose”….

  50. Teeny Gozer says:

Eeee! Clicker training! My cat, Zack, was a “fearful aggressive biter”, and the only way to fix that behavioral problem was clicker training. He can sit up and beg, and do a pirouette, and he’s completely non-aggressive now. Took me about a year of training.

  51. Erin says:

I once put a sweater on my Birman. He was sweet and didn’t struggle at all while I put it on. As soon as I was done he immediately crouched low to the ground and slunk under the couch, presumably to look for his dignity. I lol’d for a good minute or so before I fished him out and removed it.

  52. kibblenibble says:

Yay! So cute. Loved the mews in the beginning. Isabella does nothing like this, but she is still amazing to me. ♥

  53. tobesograteful says:

Well he’s getting better at it, but the other guy gets a treat just for watching!

  54. Teresa says:

    Cute kitty trick

  55. Kendra says:

I didn’t even realize that was a real cat on the side until it moved!

  56. Sidekick cat has got some serious friggin’ charisma.

  57. dr. berthaservant says:

I think Sidekick cat is just learning at the smooshed face of the master.

Big kitteh is definitely ready for the ending sequence in the all-feline remake of “Bonnie and Clyde.”

  58. Marie says:

Wha? Did I not comment? Criminal!

I must have floated away on a happy cloud before I had a chance. This is cute madness taken to a whole new level!

  59. Awww! The little mewingz at the beginning. Deadly. :)

  60. kellie says:

i love how when he flops over, the short haired one looks at him like WTF IS HAPPENING.

  61. Antikythera says:

Oh man, so that’s clicker training. For a minute I thought the trainer was making a ‘reloading the gun’ sound. XD Then I realized what was going on.

It won’t be long before the little dude can do it too, just from watching Floofball there do the trick and get a treat. You can just see the gears clicking in his head.

  62. k8 says:

I love how the little one is all, “what is this? you got treats? okay, so I…flop over? will I get treats????”

  63. The Scottish fold wears plaid. :-)

  64. Natalie says:

@ binky-mama: “What alternate universe is this where smoosh-faced kittehs in kitteh playrooms wear sweateuws and are clicker trained?”
    Indeed *nods*
I LLUURRRVVVEEE eet so moishe! I dig cats in sweateuws and I have never heard of clicker-training a cat, only a dog.

  65. Megan T. says:

But the lil one wants treats too! Don’t discriminate!

  66. BStrange says:

Clicker training rules. And you can clicker-train anything, I think, as long as it meets the criteria of “able to hear the click” (no snakes, sorry) and “able and willing to recognize the click as positive feedback on its actions” (must be smarter than a lump of mud and, if not interested in pleasing its owner, then at least interested in something which can be associated with the click sound until the idea gets across, usually the great motivator: food). Even elderly cats who never obeyed a command in their lives have fallen before the might of “OMG wait, wait, wait – You mean if I do what makes that noise happen I get THE GOOD STUFF?? And I don’t even have to claw it from your protesting fingers? SIGN ME UP, BABY!” And I know for a fact a ninnypig or a rat can be clicker-trained, although their short lifespan makes long-term complex training self-limiting and I never saw a guinea pig do anything terribly complicated (“wheet wheet wheet!”-ing on the command “turn your siren on!” was cute. I wish I had a video of it, or that clicker training had been around when I had my peegs.). Some rats can be pretty darned brilliant, though.

I’ve wondered whether it’s possible to clicker-train a pet fish or lizard, it seems plausible (depending on the mental acuity and personality of the individual fish or lizard) but I’ve never heard of it being done; anyone know?

Oh, and if I read correctly, the second kitty doesn’t get treats because the idea is not to teach him that watching the other cat and doing nothing is not the object of the lesson. Pets can learn a lot through observation, and it’s also really easy to inadvertently teach them the wrong thing: I had two dogs for awhile, one who I taught tricks to, and the other who ignored all attempts to teach them to her because it was less work-intensive to see if she could nab the obedient dog’s treats for herself. She was a smart dog, already an accomplished thief of nearly ferret-esque skill, and seemed to enjoy frustrating people for her own amusement – so once she got that idea into her head it took some doing to pry it out!

Clicker training involves teaching the pet to consider the click to be a reward by associating it with rewards it already likes, while giving the trainer the ability to precisely indicate which action is being rewarded without distracting the pet the way spoken praise and petting might. The last thing anyone training their pets wants to do is teach the observing pet that it doesn’t have to do anything to get the reward. (A reward AFTER the observation session, for sitting quietly and paying attention without interfering, is different.)

  67. BStrange says:

Uhh “the idea is not to teach him that watching the other cat and doing nothing is not the object of the lesson.” …”is the lesson he should not be learning” was what I was going for, so flush that second “not”, whatsay?

  68. Paunchie says:

Bstrange, I think the cuteness of the flops done jangled yer synapses.

Clicker train a cat!? Why, I never!!

hee hee hee @ the sweateaus!

  69. Hon Glad says:

Well Imun smarter thana pile o’ mud, but no clicker thang aint
gonna git me doing nuthin, no siree. CLICK “I’m a yankee doodle dandie,
There’ll be a welcome in the hillside, I want to be happy but I can’t be happy”
exits stage left tap dancing turning cartwheels and yodeling God Bleen America.

  70. Hon Glad says:

Gosh darn it, the machine saw the bleen. Shucks,

[God save the Bleen? - Ed.]

  71. Nissa says:

The little Tribble sounds! Oh God! You found my weakness!

  72. I’m impressed by a cat who does a trick for any reason. From my experience with cats, it is I who must do the trick in order for the cat to eat. Cute kitties!

  73. Paunchie says:

I love the little one!! He looks around, where’d that fud come from! Where’s mine?

  74. Hon Glad says:

Excellent Mr Ed, Excellent. Damn, what did I have to say Mr Ed for? “A horse is a horse, of course, of course,”

  75. Resriechan says:

    @ HonGlad:: FUNNOIS FUNNOIS FUNNOIS.

    That is all.

  76. Melissa C says:

Awww, how adorable. Kitties really can be trained. I inadvertently trained one of mine to get kisses. When he was a little kitten I would make kissy noises and kiss the top of his head. Now if I do that, he bends his head down and puts it near my face.

  77. Paunchie says:

God save the bleen! duh duh dun dun dun
you know what I mean duh duh dun dun dun

    Sex Pistols fwiw

  78. I NEED THIS CAT says:

what types are cats are both of these?!

  79. kristy says:

Did anyone else think mini smoosh/side kick was a stuffed animal until he/she moved?!

  80. Noelegy says:

I never heard such a prosh little peep of a mew!

  81. Villy says:

    OMG!!!!

Never in ALL MY LIFE have I seen such an adorable FACE!

My uncle does this trick with my sister’s cat. I don’t know how he taught her, but I do know it wasn’t clicker training. She also “speaks” when he snaps his fingers, but she only does those tricks for him.

  82. BStrange says:

Yikes. I had no idea that post ended up being so huge. S’what I get for working on it in pieces and taping it together.
    -
Yeah-yeah, I know. Most of the cats I had, the idea simply never would have occurred to me, and I’d have laughed if it was suggested… I swear they must emit mind control-rays when they purr (capable of melting human brains to subservient slush. Oh yeah, and the rays are dangerous too.) It wasn’t until we had a cat who was obsessed with paper and took advantage of it that “training” and “cat” sounded remotely sane when linked together. If you can call a cat who’d do anything for a bit of paper to add to her stash, “sane”.

  83. Tindi says:

The first one, cat is like “Don’t wanna not gonna…ookaaay.”

Little kitten is like “I don’t get it. Can I have a treat, too?”

  84. shaz says:

oooh I want two cats just like these two, one big and one little, just so that I can put little apron thingies on their backs just like they do

  85. RJ says:

Riiiight…. I can just see me trying to teach MY cats tricks. I can hear the hysterical laughter from here.. “Did you see what she just – she wants us to WHAT?!”

When they collected themselves, they’d probably go pee on my couch just to teach me a lesson.

That said, those are some darn funny-looking, incredibly cute kitties.

  86. Fleurdamour says:

It’s the Garfield and Nermal show! I love that they’re wearing clothes.

  87. mztique says:

    aww!

  88. Mizzy says:

Is it just me, or do my comments keep getting deleted?

  89. Rachel says:

What sort of cat is this?

  90. jessie lee says:

These cats are SAH cute. Saw this last week somewhere and died a little bit. If you click on the youtube link the video creator says in the comments what kind of kitties they are. I think Sidekick (who’s name is Pancake (!!!) if I remember correctly) is an exotic shorthair. I want these kitties.
