Ocelittle

How did this little cutie escape our attention for over three years? He’s a Brazilian ocelot, born at The Louisville Zoo in November, 2007, and given the suitably diminutive name of… (booming echo effect) El Conquistador!

  11. Metz says:

I agree with Sue, that is The most beepable nose evah! And the chin. :-( Why couldn’t
that be my thumb/finger under that sweet chin? Don’t even get me started on the ears and eyes and whiskers. This is just too much to bear. You hear me? Too much. I must have him now please. I’m asking politely but really there is no other option.

  12. 260Oakley says:

I wouldn’t mind being awakened at 6:15 in the morning with this cutie’s whiskers in my face.

  17. Katiedid says:

The little guy looks sooo soft!

  18. Kar says:

I’ve been to that zoo! It was raining and the place was deserted. The animals were so bored that when we showed up with day-glo umbrellas, they all wandered over to the railing to see what was hurting their eyes.

Back on topic, those eyes will hook you faster than his itty bitty claws.

  19. Vlohma says:

The radiating speckles mean “put food here”.

  20. ShelleyTambo says:

Actually, he seems to have only escaped your attention for about 28 months, well under 3 years. Credit where credit is due.

  21. Ugo says:

Cute, but why ‘El Conquistador’ ?

  22. Prof. Bleen says:

    You’ve got a lot of ocelot when you’ve got one;
An ocelot can be a lot of fun, fun, fun.

—Something my father used to sing when I was little

  23. GingerBean says:

@Ugo- If I’m not mistaken, El Conquistador means “The Conquerer”. I’m thinking they named him that for the same reason people name small dogs “Killer” or big dogs “Baby”, the humor factor. :-)

  24. K`shandra says:

YAY! So glad to see I’m not the only one who calls ‘em ocelittles! (I used the term in baaaaabyanimals on LiveJournal several years ago…there was one person who announced “I am going to go out of my way to find excuses to use that term in everyday conversation.”)

  25. Kristabelle says:

LOVE love love love LOOOOOVE this little one. SO adorables!!!!

  31. Metz says:

Aaaahhhh!!! Just watched the video too, I am impossibly more ded than I was before.

Re: El Conquistador’s name, he (and those ones in the vid above) have certainly conquered my soul.

  52. chanpon says:

  53. Theresa says:

OceLotoCuteness RIGHT THERE! U DOIN It RIIIIIIGHT :)

  64. Bada says:

Why “El Conquistador”? This is a spanish name, and we brazilians speak portuguese.
(I hate when people come to Brazil and talk to us in spanish. When I go to USA or other english-speaking countries, I don’t talk in french to them. It would be disrespectful – and nobody would understand)
The brazilian name for this animal is “jaguatirica”. This is a beautiful baby.

  65. Juliana says:

@Bada: totally agree! Actually I came here to say the same thing =)

  66. Pebble says:

    @ Bada: ditto

  67. Raquel says:

“O conquistador” is more suitable for this cuuuteee brazilian jaguatirica that surely doesn’t speaks spanish :D

  68. BStrange says:

Bluest baby blues EVER. And Hon Glad, Wordsworth or not, I liked it. ;)

  69. SamanthaM says:

Personally, I think someone at the zoo is a Joel Lindley/Bob and Tom Show fan. (The show plays on a local station there.) If you’ve never heard Joel’s classic “El Conquistador” bit, you should try to find it.

  70. SamanthaM says:

Here’s the El Conquistador bit if anyone is interested.

  72. Louisville zoo? Weird. I go there every year and never notice him, I have no idea why. I guess its because they never have them out or they are sleeping in logs…ykwim

    tinee tabbee

  79. Rachel says:

This cute animal (my favorite of the felines) is actually a wild animal, and very rarely can it be domesticated. Some countries in Latin America actually call them “small jaguar” (pequena onça-pintada) or small tiger. So, although I find them extremely cute, I would think twice before waking up with them in my face. ;)
