I swear I’m not a helga =P (yes my hands aren’t so pretty hahaha)
But my bird (yes it’s mine) called Chat (Cat) is the sweetest [...] in the world =)
And he loves to be pet all the time !
Love the blue eye shadow. Reminds me of my yout back in the 70′s. Birdie looks like she’s getting ready to hit the discos…. “Night fever, Night fe-vahhhhhhhh”
Actually birds do purr – or rather the bird equivalent. They grind their beaks as a sign of relaxation and general well-being. I can almost hear the beak-grinds of that bird from here!
@Dona – Don’t you love that sound??? I love it when our two birds sit with us in the evening, their eyes half-closed, feathers all fluffed out, quietly grinding their beaks. It’s such a soothing, comfortable sound.
The first time I heard this «grinding» sound, I was afraid he would hurt his beak or that it would end up cracking. Glad to see it’s a normal behaviour, and that on top of that it means he’s comfortable =)
I second (or third or fourth) that sentiment about LOVING the beak-grinding bird-bliss sound. There is no more perfect sign of contentment in my house than the sound of my parrot falling asleep, making that sound …….
….in the phrasing which I learned (ca. 1968) was the equivalent to “yeah man, I dig it” when we were Amer. military living on base in Japan (so it might be entirely rumor):
have you read some in-depth material about the woman who was fairly progressive & avante-garde & ran the boarding-school in which E. R.
(HA!!! The QUEEN abbreviation, there! COOL!) was enrolled as a young girl….evidently she did quite the duckling/ swan transformation mentoring…
When Our Heroine Eleanor wasn’t doing advocacy for the disadvantaged, she gave lots of credit to that headmistress. The school was located in Britain/ England & the headmistress’ name was Marie Souvestre (presumably she herself was French; I only did a minimal internet search & didn’t check out her origins…)
Also (slightly) relevant: my (maternal) grandmother was born in the Queens Borough, NYC in 1897 and lived in that area until she had graduated high school.
Our biog. material on her & her family of origin even lists the Normal School NUMBER where she attended (presumably that specific school is LONG LONG gone).
@Resriechan – Check online. Your maternal grandmother’s school might still be there. I attended P.S.7 in Brooklyn 50 years ago. It was built in the 1800′s and kids are still going there today.
Actual I have an Alexandrine Parakeet that actually Purrs (natural noise, not learned or the beak grinding) when I’m petting her or rubbing her like that.
One of my parakeets, of happy memory, loved to be petted on the feathers by her beak; the others, unfortunately, would declare war on my finger and attack it….!
@mommybird: I, too, was wishing I “were home, scritching her cockatiel boy.” Now I’m listening to him grind his beak and fall alseep. It’s such a sweet sound.
Most of my birds were poultry; the chickens cooed like doves when they were relaxed and sleepy, but they also did a chicken-version of beak grinding as they dozed off in the sun. I think even the ducks did it, though it looked more like lipless lip-smacking in their case.
@Theo – I know that bruxing is a rat behavior, the name comes from “bruxism” (grinding of the teeth). I’ve never heard the bird version called anything but “beak grinding”, possibly because of the absence of teeth? Eh, I dunno.
Regardless, that is one happy, limp, colorful birdie! Looks like he’s getting the lovebird version of a TMJ massage, actually.
It remindes me of the scene in the Dumb and Dumber movie where they taped the head back on Petie the Budgie and sold it to a blind kid. Sorry, I wish I had a cuter thought but thats what I though of…
I wuvs you, hoomin.
My birdy loves a nice, gentle massage, too!
Do birds purr? This one would if he could!
A Hoot!
“the delicate touch of a hummingbird’s kiss”
I will be using this sometime, somehow, somewhere… Lovely
looks more like the vulcan death grip O_O
Awwww…my Paquita lurves that too. Sadly, Paco would take my fingers off if i dare touch him. That’s ok, one out of two is not so bad.
This birdie looks lost in his/her human’s touch. So sweet.

Aw, look at the closed eye! That is completely relaxed and trusting.
*wishes she were home, scritching her cockatiel boy*

Awww, blissful boidy and the power of the gentle touch.

Oh, goodness. I’ve personally been scarred by my own demonic lovebird who has been heck-bent on taking me out, I swear!!
But for those of you who are lovebird lovers here’s an awesomely sweet video of a guy who proves that a bird in the hand is well… you know.
Add-on: You’ll also see the Amazing Cleavage-Diving Lovebird in the related videos!
@Tomato.bandit.queen: Yikes!
i like it!!
Is he purring?

This post made me happy
Thank you
Reminds me of Sweetie, a Meyer’s parrot my family had for a while, she loved me and always wanted me to pet her, RIP babygirl! *sniffle*
It remindes me of the scene in the Dumb and Dumber movie where they taped the head back on Petie the Budgie and sold it to a blind kid. Sorry, I wish I had a cuter thought but thats what I though of…
@BStrange & Theo: In my home, it is called “Crunchy Beak”
