Nice work if you can get it

This whole “being a bird” thing is a real cushy gig. Three squares a day, nice cage, and I pretty much have these humans eating from the palm of my hand.

I don’t even have to fly anymore.  I just hop in someone’s shirt, and away I go!

And best of all, I get lots and lots of cuddle breaks!

Do you have any vacancies, Rachel M.?

Ha….awwww…so cute. I have a soft spot for birds and this one reminds me of my own Paquita who is more like a wild dingo or some sort of really crazy bird, but still sweet :)

  2. Birdcage says:

    Awwww. That’s just peachy.

I’ll tell my husband’s Timneh to “Kiss my beak,” and she’ll put her beak against my nose and make a kissing sound. My Cockatoo, on the other hand, will either nibble on my nose or put his beak against my mouth. We loves us some birdies!

  4. Leilani says:

    P.S. @Birdcage: Good one! LOL!

  5. Gigi says:

Not “cute” as I understand the word, but beautiful.
I love wild birds; I have feeders in my back yard, but pet birds not so much. I think it’s because I don’t understand how they think and because they’re so delicate I’m afraid to hurt them. Birds and reptiles are kind of alien to me, I relate better to my own kind, mammals, be it a teeny mouse or a big elephant I love them all.

Looks just like my Teacake!! http://www.flickr.com/photos/parrotparadise/3025503754/in/set-72157608968276159/

She loves kisses too and will kiss back with a little *muah!* sound. She’s about 13 or 14 now and she is the shredding beast, currently working on shredding the Clearwater phone book. She will also take your hand off if you touch her cage. Isn’t she sweet?

  7. Kristabelle says:

Aw! I love birdies! Our cockatiel Lilah will say “KEEES!” and make a smooch sound, BUT, she will not let you kiss her. She does like to knock on your teeth though. One day, I would love to have a cockatoo.

XD @ hovertext on the last one! “Mom! Don’t get leepstick on me or the other guys will make fun of me!!”

    BOID!

Love, love, love birds. We had a cockatiel named Mozart that we taught to whistle the first 4 bars of the first movement of Eine Kleine Nachtmusik. He practiced and practiced and would grumble when he messed it up. Kind of like when I practice the piano except not as violent.

This little guy is just as cute as the proverbial button. What a sweet smile! <3

    STINKIN’, stinkin’ cute!!!

I want a bird so much it hurts. And this little fella is about as cute as they come!

That second pic keels me ded.

  15. Saffron says:

Hovertext on the second pic FTW! Bird is smiling at us. :)

  16. Reed says:

I love that perpetual sly smile on that sweet little face. There is no way for this bird to frown. What a jolly happy soul.

  18. Frank says:

The way these posts are lined up it looks like Lyra is checking out the bird…

  19. Saffron says:

    @Trinky Dink…Teacake is Beeautiful!!!

All nestled in a Snuggie in photo three? Sweet!

  21. Fluidstatic says:

Birdie snuggle! That’s so adorable. I reaaally want one of those beauties, but I’m allergic. *pout*

  22. rodona says:

Awww, I wish my ferocious pterodactyl/eagle (cockatiel) Joey would snuggle with me. He’s okay with head rubbings on HIS terms and will occasionally lean against me and make kissing noises, but snuggle? no way.

  23. nads says:

So cute! I love birds but would feel guilty owning one. I can’t imagine that they enjoy living in a cage-even though I know many, many people take very good care of their feather babies, I think I’d have conflicting feelings owning one. But they are so beautiful and intelligent!

  24. Kristabelle says:

Rodona – that’s how Lilah is – HER terms, exclusively. I will say to her, “Can I scratch your head?” and she will bend her head down and let me scratch around her neck and plumage. OTHER times, I’ll ask her the same question and she’ll put her head down, I’ll reach my finger out and she’ll CHOMP on me. HMPH! She’s not a snuggler either. That’s why I eventually would like to have a cockatoo – they are the BEST snugglers in the bird family, from what I’ve heard.

  25. Leilani says:

@Kristabelle – Cockatoos are very rightly known as “velcro birds”! I’ve had my ‘Too for 11 years, and I was amazed when I first got him at how he wanted/loved physical attention. He would sit on my lap for hours, letting me pet him as though he were a cat; and I truly believe that nothing would make him happier than to be surgically attached to some portion of my anatomy so he could be with me 24/7! It’s very endearing and satisfying, but it can be a major pain You Know Where when I need to get something done because he hangs on the bars of his cage and calls to me. Nonstop. And he never gets tired of calling, either.

  26. hyura says:

she’s definitely smiling in the second pic. wow.

  27. jenben says:

waaaaaaaaaaaaant. I want a bird! If my current living situation allowed it, I would have one now, but I have an allergic roommate. Next year though, my apartment will be filled with the wonderful sounds of birdie chirping and chattering.

Regardless if it’s male or female, the name will be Kevin (anyone get the reference?)

[...or possibly Dennis? Maybe even Pat? - Ed.]

  28. Juliana says:

@Kristabella – I have a cockatoo as well. We spend a LOT of time working with her to avoid the velcro bird thing that cockatoo’s can become (it’s really not healthy for them.). If you’re really interested in learning more about them visit http://www.mytoos.com.

I have a lovebird who I would LOVE to be able to bond more with. She just prefers to hang out on her cage.

    Great first picture.

  29. Kristabelle says:

Wow, Juliana, thank you very much for that link. EYE OPENING! Perhaps I do NOT want a cockatoo, after all!

  30. darkshines says:

I love birdies too (we had cockatiels)! This multicoloured beauty would be welcome in our flock anyday x

Re 3rd pic hovertext: Taffeta, darling.

  32. Fleurdamour says:

    Bird snorgling!

  33. BStrange says:

Awwww. High BEF (in this case “beak & eyes” factor I suppose), colorful cuteness! The second pic makes me miss the skritchy feel of tiny bird feet…
    planted firmly on my scalp…
while a puny “eagle” tried to yank out my hair as nesting material…
and grabbed feetfuls of hair in deceptively fragile yet vise-like toes if I attempted to remove him…

OK, I really do miss this. I’m clearly nuts. *nod*

Very pretty boid. I dub thee Sherbet.

  36. kibblenibble says:

nads, you are right on all counts, and very sensitive to know that about yourself. I lived with a bird for twenty years, (my sweet conure, Scout) and although I loved him dearly and took the best care of him that I could, I always had a heartache that he couldn’t fly free. I still do. You know how when you love your baby and you want the best for it? Well, he was my baby, and it broke my heart that he couldn’t be free. Sorry for the sadness. I love birds so much, but I’ll never have another.

  37. Katiedid says:

kibblenibble- I know how you feel about the whole not flying thing. That is how I feel about Jack sometimes. But then I remember that in the part of the world where he is from, eclectus’ are considered pests and eaten…. So it makes it alittle easier to live with… Plus, since he lives with me he gets to have two minions, Sasha and Misha!!

  38. Hon Glad says:

Ed. I tried to make my comment as balanced as possible. I think, as others have said it’s the fly thing. No matter how large the cage, aviary even, you are curtailing, controlling part of there ability. Perhaps cats was a bad choice of comparisson, my two can do what they like and go where they like. In England there are no coyotes eagles whatever to permanently remove your puss, indoor only cats, would be if you live in a high-rise block of flats.
The best description of a cat I have read is…a wild animal that chooses to live with you.

  39. danielie says:

What a pretty little bird. :)

  40. MandyZ says:

What an adorable wee birdling! I want so much to beep his little beak like I do our 2 green cheek conures. And the little bit of his pink birdie toys in the pics? Sooooo cute.

Naboo (Star wars in origin) makes the kiss noise, the big silly long drawn out one all the time trying to get us to kiss back. He also lays beak against our faces and makes the kissing noise, its adorable. Course he also taught himself this insane sound that sounds like a pterodactyl… He’s also our little dancin’ bird.

Herbie asks “Whatchya doin’? All the time, and said the big bad “f” word the first night we had him… we were floored, he came from a home with two little kids before we had him… wonder who taught the cute little bugger the bad words lol. He kisses by pressing his beak to your lips, but he never picked up the kissy noise, lots of words but no odd noises other than mimicking laughter all the time… even at bad times…. like those me and hubby alone times… birdie laughing… yea….

  41. Trinky Dink says:

@MandyZ – I had a quaker that made squeaky bed noises. Not good when I got divorced and then remarried a couple of years later, with new hubby looking all annoyed anytime the Quaker made the noises . . . .ROTFL!!!

  42. Trinky Dink says:

Oh! and remember the lovebird in bed from a while back? Guess who submitted that gem. . . .? :-)

  43. Resriechan says:

The Boid in the first picture should be paid to advertise for Crayola’s
new Pastel Pastiche series .Lovely photo.

(JK; just made the P.P. phrase up; but truly this photo would be excellent for encouraging purchases of color products: watercolor paints, chalks, etc.)

  44. kibblenibble says:

Thanks, Katiedid. Your Jack is beautiful. :-)
