This reminds me of people in one of those booths with money flying around, trying to catch a few bucks. Change the music and commentary and you’ve got the dolphin equivalent. Amazing, though, any way you look at it.
This clip is fabulous! I think it was Terry Pratchett who said of dolphins: “Never trust a species that smiles all the time. It’s up to something.” How right he was…
haha. if these were teenage boy dolphins, they’d be saying things like “watch, I’m going to catch this one and then do a double back cannonball”
and if one of them misses… “oh man that fish just totally pwned you, brah!”
and then “sick!! now what? wanna go play tony hawk on wii?”
My friends and I have something similar we do at the supermarket. I surround the lettuce stand in the produce aisle, flapping my arms like a wild woman …. and the lettuce, panicking, makes a jump for it – right into the waiting salad bowls of my buddies.
WOW Just goes to show you that dolphins not only can figure out an easier way to catch fish but do it as a group effort Sounds like dolphins can still teach we humans a thing or two about life
I have this wierd thing with dolphins. Whenever I see them, I cry a bit. It’s kind of a spiritual experience for me. They’re just so smart, and I have the feeling they possess the secrets of the universe…Okay, don’t tease me too much about this, okay?
when i was on vacation in Florida this past summer, we rented a boat and went out on the Gulf of Mexico. A pod of wild dolphins followed us for about half the day. They are the most beautiful creatures ever! Love them!
“Fish!”
“Today’s fish is trout a la crete.”

I for one welcome our hungry overlords. Dolphons are cute, right up until you imagine what they would look like if you were the size of one of those fish. Then they suddenly look like terrifying dinosaurs, in the way geese look like T-Rexes when they get cross.
A few summers ago, my wife, my stepson and I went to Florida to go to disney, and visit my sister and her family in Bradenton. We took a day excursion over to Sarasota, and went on the bay cruise. We watched dolphins chase a group of fish into the marina, and then while one circles and kept them in a tight group, another swims in fast, flicks his tail and throws one of the fish against the concrete wall. Another dolphin swims in and snatches him up before it regains its senses. They then switch places, and everyone takes a turn at each position. They are remarkable creatures, and we had better watch it or one day King Snorky will come and throw us off the land, and we can go live in the ocean.
Remarkable creatures. Nothing about them surprises me anymore.
)
SO COOL!! and I was the second to comment~yippee!!!
Too Neat! (or should I say cute). Great find!
Sir David Attenborough’s voice and a Douglas Adams-inspired headline? Colour me happy.
I’d like to be under the sea
In an octopus’s garden in the shade
We would shout and swim about
The coral that lies beneath the waves
This is mud-raking journalism, Mike.
I’m guessing these animals got higher grades than me in high school geometry.
that level of cleverness is kind of freaky.
This definitely gives new meaning to “let’s go out and get some lunch”! (I watched without sound, so if that was said, then, oops!)

That is SO AMAZING!
O.o
Wow.. dolphins are smart little suckers!
Cool!
1 brownie point to NTMTOM for the Hitchhiker reference in the title.
They also look like they are having fun…I guess their mothers never told them not to play with their food!

lol, birdcage…
I was just thinking – that darn circle of life thing again…
Adaptation- the act of catching on…
that is incredible!
If only humans were so organized and good at working together…
I might have to watch this again and again, just to figure out who has the better voice–David Attenborough or Mike Rowe.
Yay for a HGTTG reference, and double yay for a a Terry Pratchett reference in the comments. I’m in nerdy anglophile heaven!
And I thought they were mostly harmless.
Amazing. Fish overload.
Magnificent, Birdcage.
One of the coolest things I’ve seen… EVER!
Aquatic crop circles!
Haha I am reading Hitchikers Guide right now!!
I said it last time, and I’ll say it again: I heart David Attenborough.
“Hey, look what we can do… and we don’t even have opposable thumbs!”
wait a sec! that dolphin wrote “surrender dorothy”!!!!!!!
gosh they are smart.
Birdcage, you win . . . everything.
That is so freaking cool.
So, so, so happy! I want food to fly directly into my mouth.
“Mud-raking journalism.” *WIN*
You realize these are creatures who not only gave up the opportunity to have opposable thumbs, they gave up front limbs. They’re THAT smart.
Perhaps we could put them to work on the world economy?!
WOW
Just goes to show you that dolphins not only can figure out an easier way to catch fish but do it as a group effort
Sounds like dolphins can still teach we humans a thing or two about life
Birdcage officially made my WEEK.
@ Corianne – Mike Rowe is my boyfriend in my head. LURVE HEEEM!!!!!! *swoons*
…oh and I got a B on that sociology assignment *win*
Mmm, I wish they’d scare me up some mackrel!
I like how at 2:14 the middle dolphin flips over on his back and wiggle swims because he’s so full and happy.
LOL at Cashew and ButtaRumCake! XD
“I’m gonna eat you little fishy….uh … uh … I … I … I was just making sure your fish were OK. I wasn’t going to eat them!”
This clinches it — dolphins are made of awesome.
Is it just me or do those circles look like they’re made of frosting and whipped cream?=P
I love how happy the dolphins are!
My jaw dropped — super smart! This is cooperative, creative hunting… pretty advanced stuff.
That’s bloody amazing! :O
Wow! Animals are completely amazing.
Wow. My favorite aquatic mammal and favorite series of books (sorry Discworld, you’ve been hijacked). Thank you mister NTMTOM.
I’m not surprised at all. It’s the dolphin equivalent of humpback whale bubble-net techniques for catching krill.
We’re doomed.
It will only be a matter of time before we’re forced to balance balls on our noses for their amusement.
Breathtaking. And the circles are so perfect! This is just so darned cool.
Teach a man to fish and you give him an excuse to disappear every weekend.
Teach dolphins to fish and you make mealtime cute!
They have a lot of diffrent strategies to hunt. Check out these guys http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78_edYWQTWs that push them onto land.
Last seconds – the place they leave looks like face of abe from abe exodus: http://www.gameblitz.com/images/abeface1.gif

Dolphins are so smart that I’m jealous.
@ jen, LOLZ
I can’t tell if this is an example of really really smart dolphins or really really dumb fish.
kibblenibble – I completely understand. Dolphins are as magical as a Unicorn to me, but these are real!
So cool!!
I think we’ve been looking in the wrong space for intelligent life.
Dolphins + Sir David Attenborough = WIN.

@Kathryn – AND a Red Dwarf ref! Too funny.

Haha, look at them smiling!
absolutely briljant! they really are clever, aren’t they?
Fabulous
I, for one, welcome our new dolphin overlords.
They do that on porpoise!!!
ButtaRumCake- YAY! Keep up the good work!
Theo/NOMTOM/Prongs/Meg, could we please have a YAY! of BRC? Thanks!
Does PETA know about this? Dolphins should only eat vegetables.
How in the world did they learn such a trick?
Oh no! the sea kittens!!
LOL I love dolphins. SSSSmart smart smart.
Oh, how I adore dolphins!
Subhangi, you have capitulated my thoughts exactly! Good to know people out there think like me…
42!
Holy crap. Exactly when are the dolphins going to turn on us and take over the world? Oh, never mind. That’s mice who are the smartest creatures.
Very clever these dolphins, I must say.
cooooool!!! Matt, I would say rats are the smartest creatures…heh heh heh
You should add the fish tag. Not for the dolphins, for their prey!
its a trap!

I think these dolphins just invented the ocean’s version of fast food!
Oh, I LOVE the Hitchhiker’s Guide Series!

Dolphins are jerks.
Dolphins: Unicorns of the Sea
[Sometime you should read up about narwhals, tho - Ed.]
All the animals are so cute.
The animales are so cute. I want to have them all as my pets.
