  4. EffieMcB says:

Sir David Attenborough’s voice and a Douglas Adams-inspired headline? Colour me happy.

  5. catloveschanel says:

I’d like to be under the sea
In an octopus’s garden in the shade

We would shout and swim about
The coral that lies beneath the waves

  6. catloveschanel says:

    This is mud-raking journalism, Mike.

  7. marguerite212 says:

I’m guessing these animals got higher grades than me in high school geometry.

  8. hyura says:

that level of cleverness is kind of freaky.

  9. Kristabelle says:

This definitely gives new meaning to “let’s go out and get some lunch”! (I watched without sound, so if that was said, then, oops!)

  10. PJ says:

This reminds me of people in one of those booths with money flying around, trying to catch a few bucks. Change the music and commentary and you’ve got the dolphin equivalent. Amazing, though, any way you look at it.

  11. Dixie says:

This clip is fabulous! I think it was Terry Pratchett who said of dolphins: “Never trust a species that smiles all the time. It’s up to something.” How right he was…

  12. mary78 says:

    That is SO AMAZING!

  13. Katiedid says:

    O.o
Wow.. dolphins are smart little suckers!

  15. edmundh says:

1 brownie point to NTMTOM for the Hitchhiker reference in the title.

  16. Pam says:

They also look like they are having fun…I guess their mothers never told them not to play with their food!

  17. Cashew says:

haha. if these were teenage boy dolphins, they’d be saying things like “watch, I’m going to catch this one and then do a double back cannonball”
and if one of them misses… “oh man that fish just totally pwned you, brah!”
and then “sick!! now what? wanna go play tony hawk on wii?”

  18. Birdcage says:

My friends and I have something similar we do at the supermarket. I surround the lettuce stand in the produce aisle, flapping my arms like a wild woman …. and the lettuce, panicking, makes a jump for it – right into the waiting salad bowls of my buddies.

  19. ceejoe says:

    lol, birdcage…

I was just thinking – that darn circle of life thing again… :(

  20. Katrina says:

Adaptation- the act of catching on…

  22. BeckyMonster says:

If only humans were so organized and good at working together…

  23. corianne says:

I might have to watch this again and again, just to figure out who has the better voice–David Attenborough or Mike Rowe.

Yay for a HGTTG reference, and double yay for a a Terry Pratchett reference in the comments. I’m in nerdy anglophile heaven!

  24. wuyizidi says:

And I thought they were mostly harmless.

  25. georgina0912 says:

    “Mud-raking journalism.” *WIN*

You realize these are creatures who not only gave up the opportunity to have opposable thumbs, they gave up front limbs. They’re THAT smart.

  36. tobesograteful says:

Perhaps we could put them to work on the world economy?!

  37. Teresa says:

WOW :D Just goes to show you that dolphins not only can figure out an easier way to catch fish but do it as a group effort :D Sounds like dolphins can still teach we humans a thing or two about life :D

Wow. My favorite aquatic mammal and favorite series of books (sorry Discworld, you’ve been hijacked). Thank you mister NTMTOM.

  51. pounce says:

I’m not surprised at all. It’s the dolphin equivalent of humpback whale bubble-net techniques for catching krill.

  52. Alice says:

    We’re doomed.
It will only be a matter of time before we’re forced to balance balls on our noses for their amusement.

  53. Nikki says:

Breathtaking. And the circles are so perfect! This is just so darned cool.

  54. Weemaryanne says:

Teach a man to fish and you give him an excuse to disappear every weekend.

Teach dolphins to fish and you make mealtime cute!

  55. Daniel says:

They have a lot of diffrent strategies to hunt. Check out these guys http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78_edYWQTWs that push them onto land.

Last seconds – the place they leave looks like face of abe from abe exodus: http://www.gameblitz.com/images/abeface1.gif

  57. kibblenibble says:

I have this wierd thing with dolphins. Whenever I see them, I cry a bit. It’s kind of a spiritual experience for me. They’re just so smart, and I have the feeling they possess the secrets of the universe…Okay, don’t tease me too much about this, okay?

  58. Samantha says:

Dolphins are so smart that I’m jealous.

  59. JannieWolf says:

    @ jen, LOLZ

I can’t tell if this is an example of really really smart dolphins or really really dumb fish.

  60. ash says:

  65. Helly says:

@Kathryn – AND a Red Dwarf ref! Too funny.

    “Fish!”
“Today’s fish is trout a la crete.”
    “Fish!”
“Today’s fish is trout a la crete.”
    “Fish!”
“Today’s fish is trout a la crete.”
    “Fish!”
“Today’s fish is trout a la crete.”
    “Fish!”
“Today’s fish is trout a la crete.”

  66. Earwig says:

I for one welcome our hungry overlords. Dolphons are cute, right up until you imagine what they would look like if you were the size of one of those fish. Then they suddenly look like terrifying dinosaurs, in the way geese look like T-Rexes when they get cross.

  67. Haha, look at them smiling! :)

  68. nadya says:

absolutely briljant! they really are clever, aren’t they?

  69. superbunny says:

    its a trap!

  84. BrianinCanada says:

A few summers ago, my wife, my stepson and I went to Florida to go to disney, and visit my sister and her family in Bradenton. We took a day excursion over to Sarasota, and went on the bay cruise. We watched dolphins chase a group of fish into the marina, and then while one circles and kept them in a tight group, another swims in fast, flicks his tail and throws one of the fish against the concrete wall. Another dolphin swims in and snatches him up before it regains its senses. They then switch places, and everyone takes a turn at each position. They are remarkable creatures, and we had better watch it or one day King Snorky will come and throw us off the land, and we can go live in the ocean.

  85. Sarena says:

that’s pretty cool!! it just goes to show that animals are smart too!!!
