Okay, after reassembling myself from the puddle of goo, I have a question for the CO readers.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE those little lip globules on doggies’ bottom lips (see third picture above). My dog won’t let me play with hers, but my sister’s dog does, and they’re so cool and they splay across the teeth like starfish on the rocks and I adore them.
But what are they? What are they for? Why do they taunt me so? I can find nothing on Google, even looking up “dog mouth anatomy” instead of “leep globules.” Any ideas out there? I must know more!
CORGULA puppeh! Oh, now look at that mouth-ready for glomming, nomming and general mischief, OH, that tongue – and soon, if it hasn’t already started happening, that tiiiiiiiny tongue will start to stick out, ooh so tinily and beckon everyone to “come pet the puppy!” “Oh, for the simple joys of puppyhood!”
Mommy’s baby, come over here, that’s it, come over for a snorgle-ah, sweet babay……the yawn is to render us completely useless to do anything but pick it up and cuddle it….but you probably already knew that!
Trabb’s Boy, if dog anatomists have not come up with a name for those bumpy things on puppy lips, perhaps this task should fall to the learned CO community. I suggest “smedules.” Or, possibly, “drool fences.”
@trabb’s boy – i agree with the other posters in that i think that is just part of the lip. I guess it would be part of the mucosal surface?? I love the term leep globules and smedules!
Though I to agree this is a schnozzle on this pup, the pic made me contemplate the distinction between nosicle (or in my house, nosticle) and schnozzle. Though I think we all know a nosicle vs a schnozzle when we see one, I would like to see something definitive on this.
@trabb’s boy – well i searched the internet and found a book on google books: Canine anatomy By Bonnie J. Smith – on page 126 it says they are a type of blunted papillae – and upon further searching i don’t see an official name! maybe you can send in an eponym naming request to canine anatomists – “trabb’s papillae”!! or leep globules or smedules
I haven’t been to this site in like a long while but even after not being here the posts are way great still. I totally love cuteoverload and just showed a friend and he now likes it,.
I have been so busy coding my friends wife’s website http://911addiction.com, Its going to be a great resource to help other people struggling,.
But nothing beats the great posts of CuteOverload.com
It’s been a long time since I was up close and personal with a puppy so I’ve never even noticed those leep globules. I’m sure they’re there only to taunt us and lay waste to our very souls. I love the leetle grape juice stain just ‘neath his leetle ‘stachio. <3
Yes, the great creator designed me with all the attendant cute elements in place.
Your subjugation and worship of me will be complete, by the time the clepsydra has drained.
Now do you see why we Corgi-lovers put up with the shedding and stuff to house and feed and cuddle these things- they are just as cute big and all growed up, really! Corgis-a stubborn but simply enchantingly disarming breed of dogget.
so cute !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, that’s a really young corgi to have ears already popping up. And the ears are rounded…so inquiring minds have to know….is it a cardigan welsh corgi? I just don’t think it’s a pembroke. Not that there is anything wrong with that! They both have the corgi ‘tude, don’t they?!
Von Zep – I wanted to use an ancient form of measurement and I thought parsangs, but that is measurement of distance, then I found clepsydra, the water clock. Actually I do use an ancient form of measurement Feet and inches, I don’t get on with the metric system.
Cardigan Corgi’tude confirmed, DaytimeDeb! We can ask the Queen about the Pembrokes, I suppose, maybe Queen of Dork will know, they all hang around together! She’s the closest I’ve ever come to Royalty! Her Royal Self, Queen of Dork where arrrrrrrrrrre you?
What kind of doglet is that? How old is doglet? I can haz some? I just want to hold it, and snorgle it, and smooch it, and call it George. Siersly, peeps, that is one cay-ute puppeh.
@Eds: you dun it again, I am goo in the face of the doglet. And I am a cat person!
Corgi pup FTW! I think…
Oh STINKING, REEKING cute!!!!!
PS: The nose!! BEEP!!!! And *kees*

I think those are just part of the “leeps”. Must make it hard to get leepstick on smoothly.

“Smedules”!! BRILLIANT!!!!
Put it in the dictionary with “Lurkensproing”!
Trabb’s Boy: Liperidges?
It’s the little Hercule Poirot ‘stache that’s slaying me.
I love the brown dappling around his mouth that makes him look like he’s been eating chocolate.
::gentle kees on head::
BEYOND prosh and into the realm of REDONKULOUS PROSH.
moist nosicle!!!
@trabb’s boy – i agree with the other posters in that i think that is just part of the lip. I guess it would be part of the mucosal surface?? I love the term leep globules

Puppy breath!
Need I say more!
I may never recover from that second picture. Oh. So. Cute.

I see trouble written all over that lil one! My gosh….
Those ears are just begging for soft kronsches! His mini claws also demand to be nommed. And that nose…might as well just go into my mouf.
Hiya,

i’m not gonna lie, those bulbous milky blue eyes make that puppy look a little creepy. cute though!

That last pictures makes me want to snuggle!
Doomchild, I, too, am slayed by the toofless puppeh mouf.
Trabb’s Boy: “they splay across the teeth like starfish on the rocks”…beautiful prose. Are you a writer?
Yes, the great creator designed me with all the attendant cute elements in place.
Your subjugation and worship of me will be complete, by the time the clepsydra has drained.
OMG! When I saw the last picture I actually got a whiff of puppy breath. Yummy, yummy puppy.

Too cute, wonder what breed it is. My guess is UberCute, although it might be a CutesiePoo. *shoulder shrug*
Now do you see why we Corgi-lovers put up with the shedding and stuff to house and feed and cuddle these things- they are just as cute big and all growed up, really! Corgis-a stubborn but simply enchantingly disarming breed of dogget.

I found this on the BBC website this morning, and article on Japan’s facsination with dressing puppies up in cute outfits. Ded. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_pictures/8446640.stm

@Katrina, we’re all in the Snickering Lounge!
Hon Glad, my car is so old the odometer is calibrated in parsangs per fortnight.
Katrina: Here I am! How’s your back?
Von Zep: It’s a good thing I wasn’t drinking my coffee when I read that comment…per fortnight, indeed.
<– also yawned. stoppit.
My heart’s gonna burst from the CUTE!!!!!!!
The back is much better-the chipmunks are giving me a massage up and down and after every lap of my back and one of them keeps yelling “O-KAY!”
Fun times, fun, fun, fun! How are you holding out?
